For the Minneapolis folks... Gear West posted their "agenda" for the GW University.  Not sure if you were planning to attend, but it is a great event and always sells out quick!

nealham12 - 2011-01-10 11:22 PM Flew all the way across the Country yesterday from ATL to Reno.  Worked all day today but got out this evening and went on a 24 minute run.  Pace was 9:31 which felt pretty good considering the travel and the altitude here.  I'll be here for 2 weeks working so no outdoor bike riding for me.  Need to work my run, strength training, and some indoor bike intervals.

Traveling's always tough.  I'm glad I don't have to do it all that often.  Good luck the next two weeks!

I don't like seeing us at the bottom of the mentor group page

How's everyone doing?  Any weekend plans?

I'm devising a little test for Saturday.  I've been doing very little running lately because of shin splints.  I think I'm going to try going 7 miles to determine whether or not to run in the half marathon I have on the 23rd.  I'm feeling very undertrained at this point so it will be interesting for sure.

Had a killer Treadmill run last night with the weather here in MSP... too late to run outside.  In the pool tomorrow...

Thinking about IMoo... combination of intensity, pacing, burn rate, caloric intake and starting to step through how I will train for all that stuff again this year.  I've been 100% Infinite for the past 3 years and it has worked, but I am thinking of switching the blend up a bit...  more thoughts to come.

Pool today. Took yesterday off to rest right ankle/foot. I got something going on. Posterior Tibial Tendon possibly? Scheduled a massage for Monday. Did a nice swim today. Got my first 750 yds non-stop 15min.

Swimming question: Has anyone tried this, swimming laps without touching the wall at the end of each lap? I stopped short of the wall and turned on my own and restarted, it took some effort. Would this help prepare for the rigors of triathlon OWS.

Had a nice run yesterday morning before I headed to work.  Definately feel the altitude difference in Reno but all in all a good run.  Missing my bike though.  Can't wait to get home at the end of next week and do some riding.

How do you like infinit?  I started using it last year and loved it.  Now I did have some digestive issues that started during the run at IMMOO that cost me 5-10 minutes in pit stops.  Not sure if that had anything to do with the infinit though....

The pushing off the wall issue is another hotly debated topic.  Some people think by pushing off the wall you're "cheating" and don't have to work as hard to cover a specified distance, that you're getting free distance with the pushoff.  So one option is to not push off.  The other option, that I prescribe to, is to just swim longer.  If you're training for a 500yd sprint, swim 1000 yds continuous.  If you're training for an Oly, swim 2000 straight.  You may be pushing off the wall but you're swimming much father than you will in your event.

The only way to prepare for OWS is to do an OWS from time to time.  It is much different from pool swimming so if you get a chance to practice ahead of time I would highly suggest you do so.

Just seeing how everyone is doing on their training plans.

I am starting to put bricks together and doing equivalent of tris during my training days.  I am able to at least do a training Olympic Tri and will be entering my first race sprint triathlon in april. I will follow that with a Olympic Tri in May and if all goes well ill do the HIM in July in Portland Or. Looking to see how everyone else is doing..

Well I had a very interesting day today. I went out for a 2 hour ride, to be followed by a 30 min run. All was going well I was about 1 1/2 hours into the ride and riding better than ever. I was coming up my last big hill, and I was trying to catch these two guys ahead of me. I keep looking up to see if I was catching them. When I look up and one guy is on the ground and his friend is jumping off his bike and waving his arms to stop a big truck before it runs over his friend. I got up on the pedals and got up there as fast as I could. The man down (Mark) was totally non responsive. So I get someone in the car to call 911 and start CPR. Marks friend and I kept trading positions with compressions, they really wear you out. Mark seemed like he was coming around about 3 times but each time he slipped back out of it. We were finally joined by an of duty firefighter about 15 minutes into it. We could not figure out were the ambulance was. Finally it shows up but we were doing CPR for 25 mins before they got there. At one point he started vomiting blood. It was horrible. They brought in a life flight heli to get him out. We had to shock him once but I don't think it worked. It has really freaked me out. This guys ride all the time, they we also about 1 1/2 hrs into their ride. Mark had said he wasn't feeling 100% so they were taking it easy, and then he just goes down.

So everyone just be careful and stay safe!

Can someone look at my training schedule for the coming week and tell me if it is ok. I had to make some changes, can't do anything Sunday.

I don't know if Mark survived or not I haven't heard, but I would really be surprised if he did, it did not look good.

Ok, I think I changed my settings so you can see my log. If you can not then I'll need some help fixing that.

I did get the call today and I'm sad to report that Mark from yesterday did not make it.

Mikoy, sorry to hear about your day.  Regardless of the outcome, remember you did everything you could.  Mark was fortunate to have you behind him to do everything you could to save him.

Does anyone else have a Timex Ironman GPS watch.  I have found that during the swim it is not very accurate, I swam 1100 and it said I swam 1446.  Is there anything on the watch to adjust to make it more accurate.  Also my heart rate was really low on the swim.
