Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge bodhi_girl - 2011-03-05 4:05 PM mbasta - 2011-03-05 5:46 AM So this morning I have planned to go to hot yoga... I am a little intimidated because I'm going alone, I don't really know what to expect, I'm not a graceful swan, and I'm chubby. Oh, I also have a smidgen of social anxiety (self diagnosed) that sometimes keeps me from doing things like this. I'm telling you because it will help give me the final push into the building after I park the car, which I anticipate will be the most challenging part of my morning.
Here's to flexi body and good health! And hopefully a welcoming beginner friendly atmosphere. It's probably too late - you've probably already gone to class ... but I wanted to weigh in here ... I'm a Registered Yoga Teacher (Hatha & Vinyasa) and I myself am the furthest thing from a graceful swan and a little chubby, too. This is fine. You do not need to have a perfect lulu body to enjoy the benefits of yoga - and actually the less flexible you are, the more you get out of class (the super-bendy don't have to work as hard, don't get as much out, don't appreciate the work done in practice) ... and the very purpose of yoga is to balance body, mind & soul - and to take the time to slow down, listen to your body, and connect with yourself ... these things have nothing to do with physical prowess! I always say at the start of all my classes - for the next hour it's just you and your mat, no competition no judgement, wherever you have landed today is where you are meant to be, so quiet the small voices and just breath. (And that's my yoga PSA for this thread;-)
Thanks for your input! This studio takes the same approach and the teacher today was very informative and approachable. I plan on using my 1 week pass as much as possible, then attending weekly. |

I hope I got everyone on the right team and got your goals in OK. Some of you listed weekly goals so I didn't enter yours since I didn't know how you would adjust that for the month (count as 4 weeks or 4.5 weeks). Anyway, check out the spreadsheet to make sure your info is OK and check/enter your goals and how you are doing so far this month. Itzia - I entered your 5th goal all the way out to the right past the average column.
Thanks for entering the goals! |

I need to shave 40 seconds off my time to beat the women's record. I WILL do it!!!! Race report coming soon.
Way to go! Will you be posting some pictures of you in action? |

We have a big family dinner on my side of the family and then we're going to visit my SIL. Please remember her (Chris) in your prayers/thoughts. She's having a rough time and attempted suicide a few days ago. I think we should include Bill too.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully she makes it through this tough time quickly. |

Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge I raced today, almost Oly (1k, 30k, 8k) - horrible, horrible OWS with massive currents. I could swear stayed in the same place for about 5 mins at one stage, but the bike was good and so was the run. Don't think I quite broke 2 hours but I was close. Accurate times will be out tomorrow and I'll post a race report. |

Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge So hot yoga yesterday... I felt so good that I decided today I would go to another yoga class and maybe even the pilates that followed it in the schedule. I woke up this morning and had a little trouble getting out of bed. I guess yoga is like swimming in the sense that the workout sneaks up on you! I decided to pass on the yoga today and will go tomorrow. |

Report back! Instructor said you can burn up to 600 cal/hr doing it, I believe it! Had to take it to low impact a lot to avoid stressing the gastrocs but it was a blast! Very high energy and not so heavily choreographed that I felt stupid in there. Couple people asked me if I had taken the class before cause they thought I was doing so well with it. |

I guess yoga is like swimming in the sense that the workout sneaks up on you! I decided to pass on the yoga today and will go tomorrow. I wish there was hot yoga near me, I have always wanted to try it. As it is I am trying to settle on a weekly yoga class but the ones that fit with my timetable are not classes I enjoy. For me it is very instructor dependent but then I think its like that with anything. |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge QueenZipp - 2011-03-05 5:29 PM Emmanem - 2011-03-05 4:11 PM What's everyone's favorite core exercises?? I want to add more exercises so I can mix up my ab sessions so they don't become too boring. Emma, I did lots of crazy core work today at the gym. See my blog for the ideas he used today. The pluck & extend pyramid is beast! Lie on your back with a fit ball between your ankles. Slowly raise your legs and arms passing the ball between them. A pass from feet to arms and back counts as ONE. Pyramid it down from 10 reps to 1 rep. It has been suggested to me to do a downward dog at the end of these to stretch everything out. One thing you want to do is muscle confusion, don't always do the same exercises or in the same order. It makes the workout more effective (and a bit harder!!) I like throwing the medicine ball at the wall, it really engages your core in different ways, as well as the arms & legs. Planks are great, lots of variations on those.
Just finished up a core session... did the plick and extend... it's definitely a beast!!!! |
