Unless they consider 2 people a wave? lol. Here is another pic from the NJ side. This would be the first set of stairs mentioned above that precede the stairs going up to the pedestrian overpass. And this would make sense as the format works in the Ohio River ... so it should work in the Hudson. Edited by Dream Chaser 2011-12-16 1:36 PM |

Thought there'd be someone sending people off every x seconds or something. And I assume there's no order, just get in line and go. Any idea how long it takes for everyone to get in the water? |

At least that's how they roll in Kentucky. Check out :45 seconds into the video, one of the race organizers explains how they do it in IMKY. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yTfX-z3ANw |

Certainly if you're ok with the swim/bike, then walking is fine. |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread One thing I was very happy to hear is the ferry to the barge will be leaving from the Ross Dock Transition area. That means we will have race day morning access to transition and also that we will NOT have to go into NY City to get a ferry to the swim start barge. |

Expert 1027 Zürich, Switzerland | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread what about this hotel? from my experience, best thing is to stay close to the transition area to bring back comfortably the bike to the hotel after the race I hope that at the arrival there will be shuttle buses for going back to transition... |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread Looks good. I am booked in the Econolodge which is .75 miles from the transition area. The best Western says it is 1 mile from the bridge so that should be good as well. Probably a little nicer to I went with the Econolodge so my wife could walk back and forth from the room to the transition area if she wanted to take a break or if she wanted to change clothes. You know, for the evening when it drops from the high of 72 degrees F down to the upper 50's in the evening LOL!! Anyway, the convenience is there is she needs it. My training officially starts mid January! Woohoo Of course I have to work that around my peak 50K ultramarathon training which runs until mid March. Should be interesting trying to fit the bike in around all of the running. I am going to hold off on any swim training until I finish the 50K.

I probably jumped the gun but I have time to cancel. I am waiting to see what the host hotels are going go be. Is anyone familiar with the Candlewood Suites? Is it a good pick for the race? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. KC Candlewood Suites New York City-Times Square339 W 39th Street, New York, US, 10018

Member 175 Westchester County | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread For proximity to the ferry that is a really good choice. I know someone who stayed there on business recently and said it was fine, nothing fancy but a decent price for NYC. My only concern is you may get a better price closer to the event. Mid August is usually a slow time for NYC hotels and there are bargains to be had on priceline. |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread I changed my hotel to the Homewood Suites in Edgewater NJ. It looks like this will be the host hotel in NJ. It is located a few minutes from the Ferry station in Edgewater, NJ. There will be ferries from Edgewater to transition which takes about 20 minutes and you can also take the ferry into NY which takes around 13 minutes which will put you about 1 mile from the Ironman village. I spoke with one of the organizers of the event and they said the issue with the Econolodge will be getting back out of transition during the day. I was thinking my wife could come and go but they said we could walk in on race morning but once the race started she would not be able to leave the same way as the roads will be blocked for the race and emergency personnel only. She would only be able to leave via ferry. They will be running NJ ferries from Edgewater and I believe Weehawken. It is also over a mile walk from the Econolodge hotel to the transition area which might be a bit much before and after the race. Official details will be coming mid January. |

Yes, sorry it took so long to respond. Thanks Frank. I am still waiting for the official host hotels to be announced as well. I can always cancel these reservations as the new year rolls on if I find better pricing. I can't remember where are you staying for the race? KC Edited by kcgolf 2011-12-29 10:24 AM |
