Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! cottoneyes - 2011-08-08 6:45 PM Morning all, Got an extra run session in last night to really bring the tally up, almost 23% now. No run this morning as I got to the pool for the first time in 4 months. All going well should get another run / walk in this evening Ah, now I know what I've been forgetting to do... I did get a short run in tonight though. |

Bike and run already done, swim will be completed after work tonight! Happy Birthday! As for swimming your age, Diana Nyad, who is 61, is about to swim for 60 hours:At the age of 61, Diana Nyad is taking on an athletic challenge that she could not complete in her 20s. She plans to swim about 60 hours in the churning sea, 103 miles across the Straits of Florida from Cuba to Key West.http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/18/swimming-with-sharks-at-61/ She is either going to be my hero or shark snack (on my phone so no sarcasm font). Seriously rooting for a safe landing in Key West. Awesome that she is making the attempt. Just checked the online tracker, and she's still swimming. |

Same same. I was following her on CNN and FB and posted there. There were also two Tri Talk threads about her journey. Unbelievable how many people all over the world were cheering for her and she remains such tremendous inspiration to us all, and no--it wasn't about whether she got to the U.S. or not. As for the 29 hours straight ... I have a very strange feeling that I am going to find out what that is all about. I hope not, but as The Plan for The Swim is coalescing, my incredibly hot wise and surprisingly also senior swim piglet advisor and event director is recommending training for a 24-hour swim. A desirable scenario would be 16. I am so incredibly deeply grateful and honored to have him on board. It's incredibly bizarre for someone as scatterbrained as I am to be actively planning and creating something (at least) 16 months in advance. But it seems like the really hard part is going to be the planning, organizing, fundraising, sponsorship and event logistics, not even so much the training or the swim! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: August East-West Run/Jog/Wog/Walk Challenge! Now about this swim--crazy how it's all coming together and yet still takes so much mind-boggling planning in so many aspects so far in advance! It's a 40K (as crow flies) swim between the neighboring island and this one, in one of Indonesia's major straits. It's notorious, to say the least, and thought to be unswimmable. Except for a handful of really experienced captains/pilots who navigate it and a couple of swimmers who have swum parts of it. So I'm going to do it. Why not? I'll raise money for Orphans for Oceans or something like that, too. |

And to make it even better, it's being run right near my house (5kms to the start and transition area, run and bike legs go 300 metres either side of my house). Really hoping I can do this one (3000 entries it appears, so hopefully won't sell out too quick), behave you achilles!! Bike course is going to be awesome (shutting down a whole freeway for it). I have been watching this news very carefully in the last few days (big buzz over at slowtwitch.com) AND I AM SO EXCITED TOOOOOOO! I just started a thread about it in Tri Talk. I am absolutely in Mister Joe and you can bet I will be sitting at my computer on August 28! Yay for us, you especially! Imagine how excited you'll be when they announce the first annual international Ghoulie Crusher's Get together as well Well it looks like that'll be happening around March 23, then, right???
Cool! That's my birthday...good day for an announcement. |

I've been trying really hard to get my mile swim (1650 yards) below 30 minutes. I almost did it today! I was at 30:06! I would have been less than 30 minutes except I had to keep throwing kids camp stuff (and children) out of my lane! Swimming is not my thing. I'm really proud of myself! I need some music if I'm going to swim longer. Does anyone have a swimming music player? Do you like it? |
