I ran six miles last night.  Although I have been riding my bike for the last six months.  I think that was the longest I have run in a decade.  I forgot to bring socks so I have a couple of raw spots on my left foot. But otherwise it was all good.

Got in a nice 6 mile trail run yesterday on a rare 70 degree day in January right before dark. Beautiful! As I was finishing, right at dark about 15 deer crossed in front of me. What we do gives us a chance to see and enjoy so much. Have a great day today. I hope to get another one in today, but it's only 55 degrees today. Still, in January, I'll take it.

Great job on the run Ken...and without socks! I would not even attempt that. I ran 2. 5 miles straight with no walking today (beautiful 57 degree day here). It was outside on a sandy farm road. There were deer (and cows) on my run too...right in the center of a field in the middle of the day which was odd. My runs are usually scheduled after my weight workout and today was no different but I waited an hour or so to recover from the weights which seemed to help. My question of the day...do all of you use running watches to track time, distance, etc. If so, which one and do you use a heart rate monitor?

I use a Timex Ironman Triathlon. I get a new every couple of years-I wear mine for everything. I should use a hrm because I have a strong tendency to take my easy runs too fast and then I'm beat for interval runs or hill repeats. I may bite the bullet and get a Garmin 305, that way I could have both.

The plan of the day was to help out at a local Duathalon this morning, which my daughter and I did. Then according to my workout schedule, I was supposed to have a long bike ride today. It was nice and calm this morning but by the time we got home (11am local) the wind was blowing 24mph with gusts to 35....yuck.  I almost had myself talked out of riding today, but then this little voice inside my head told me to stop being such a wuss!  Ok, ok. Instead of long distance I decided to do 2, 7 mile hill loops from my house. I felt so good I ended up doing 3, with a total of 2000' of climbing. The wind sucked really bad though. Time to go sit in the jacuzzi!

The inner coach always knows best!  Tomorrow I have a 90 min ride and the goal is outside, "no matter what the weather conditions" ugh I am such a fair weather trainer.  Oh well HeLL-ga, my inner coach,  says do it!

Only 7 cups of water today but the night is still young.  So last night I drank the most expensive beer I have every had, a Chamay.  Good but still not my favorite.

Mr. Supportive made some nice steaks and potatoes au grat, and salad.  I ate in moderation but woke up at 4:30 this morning STARVING!  How could that be, the beer, the meal all very satisfying.

Had my morning regular, a bran muffin.  Make these on Sunday so I can have one every morning; muffins are huge and a meal in of themselves.

Also, got to watch my kid play basketball online; she is in Florida and we are in NV so it is always a treat to catch a game.  Then the swim workout; it takes me twice the time to do the swim training than allotted in the program.  Oh well speed will come.

An easy 4 miles this morning-just trying to get my base rebuilt-no watch, no fartleks, no pick up at a certain mile, just ran four.

On another note, I know I have the local weather shown at the top of my training log-right now at 11:19 AM the weather on the log shows full sun,  and 34 degrees F. As I look out my window, there is no sun what so ever- in fact so overcast it looks like it will snow any minute. So much for the weather...

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and great training sessions.

I wanted to do a long bike ride outside today but unfortunately work got got in the way (on a Sunday no less). I decided to ride inside on the trainer for 45 minutes. At this point it is hard to see how I will ever be able to get off a bike after 25 miles and then run for 6.2 miles after considering the way my legs feel after biking. I guess it will just take time to keep building up endurance.

Do some shorter rides and then run. Build up your bricks as you go. Intersperse your long training rides, runs with shorter bricks and you will see results sooner than you think

Keep training and it will happen...I promise!

It appears that I overdid it a little last week.  I think the fact that my shoulders have not seen so much work in many, many years might have something to do with it.  When I went for my third day of swimming, my shoulders were starting to get a little tight.  This increased over the weekend.  I did not help it any by working in the yard all day Sunday taking down all the Christmas lights.  Feel better today.  I will take a day off from swimming today and then go back tomorrow.

Stretch after a work out... what goal are aiming for that makes you swim 3 times a week from the off?

My goal is to swim three times a week.  My first day, I could not swim one lap without heaving breathing (like in one of those really bad porn movies).  Third day was much better with breathing and technique.  Also, only swimming for 30 to 40 minutes.

This is my weakest part.  So I am trying to concentrate on it.

Monday is my tough day. Morning weights for 40 minutes, then right after I walked for 2 mins., ran for 26 minutes straight then walked 2 mins. After that, it was swimming 750 yards at lunch. I feel pretty good though and I think I will sleep good tonight.

Well, I'm sick.  I bragged to ALL my frineds that I wasn't sick-now I'm sick.  I feel sweaty and clammy like a warm, smelly turd.

Got my run done tonight...it was rough.  I did not sleep well last night, about 4 hrs, so I kept dozing off on the ride home. Don't worry it was not my carpool day to drive.  But seriously, mid conversation and I would fall asleep.  Good grief...good night all!

Sounds like everyone is pushing through obstacles and getting their workouts in. My work life is crazy between now and mid-March but I know the workouts need to fit into my daily routine one way or another so I am getting them done. @ Ken, I am swimming three days/week as well. Granted, I am swimming 750-1000 yards the first couple weeks. I am trying to get a good rhythm to my swimming. Unfortunately, I can't seem to stay in rhythm by breathing to both sides so I will just keep breathing to one side (every other stroke) and make it work.

My breakfast recipe for today: 1/2 red grapefruit with an omelette as follows:

1 egg plus 2 egg whites (I buy egg whites in a carton) mixed

1-2 pieces turkey sausage or canadian bacon

1 oz. low fat cheese of choice

pepper to taste

optional herb of choice (I like italian seasoning or herb de provence)

non-stick cooking spray

I have not had any soda since last week.

Also,  I changed my breakfast smoothie recipe to get rid of the Sunny D.  My new smoothie is:

8 oz whole milk
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
scoop of banana cream protein powder
1 yoplait
ice
total calories 554

or

8 oz orange juice with calcium added (no pulp)
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
scoop of banana cream protein powder
1 yoplait
ice
total calories 514

I plan to alternate
you can reduce by 180 calories by deleting the yoplait

Is it possible for you to get just plain OJ... I have no evidence, but I am a firm believer that those products with extra vitamins and minerals, are no good, or no better than the pure product. Calcium can be important, but you are going to get it from fruit and veg anyway, and dairy of course...

Well I have been offline for a bit.  A friend of mine holds a charity golf tournament/dinner/dance and this weekend was it.  I still managed to get in a bike ride before dinner Thursday, Friday was off, Saturday ran 3 miles before the golf tournament and danced all night!!  Sunday slept in but still managed to get in a 20mile bike ride, took almost 2 hrs because of the wind.

I, Too have gotten sick.  Everyone around me has been sick and I was hoping I wouldnt get it, but it has settled in.  Yesterday, I didnt swim like planned because it has been cold and I have had a cold and dont want to make it worse.  Today I am going to try to run the planned 2miles.  Tomorrow is bike 15miles.
