Let's get 2011 out the door and over with! Tried to do an easy spin on my trainer and ended up coughing, hacking and lunging for my inhaler. Looks like it is still too soon. Between a hernia surgery and pnuemonia this has not been a good final three months of 2011. Wishing everyone a happy and safe New Years Eve.

It's been a long day here...would definitely like to jump in and discuss training plan strategies...but I'm pretty wiped out, so I may have to hold off on that discussion for tomorrow.

However, the day had a purpose and that was *finally* entering the TT bike world, thanks to the great Cervelo deal...

Here's Nik at the beginning of her fit session on the P2:

And here's mine (it's the faster one):

I'm sure I'll have tons of questions about the new bike and setting it up (hydration, etc). Looking forward to learning a lot in the months to come!

Nice! Congrats on the new purchases! do you have them at home now?? I got a very nice Felt B12 last spring and all i could do for while was look at it.  Cool

Yep, we got to bring them home Thursday...but it was such a long day, we didn't get to admire them too much. Did the first trainer session on Friday then got outside this morning to play around a little bit. We keep them in the house and I'll get caught staring at mine from time to time. Smile

Hoping everyone has a great end to 2011. I'm looking forward to moving on and getting a fresh start with everything in 2012.

Looking back at triathlon, race/results wise, I'm very pleased. Lots of PRs this year, however the end of the season fizzled for me. My 2011 numbers:

2011 totals
Bike:82h 04m 46s  - 1087.9 Mi
Run:71h 04m 49s  - 364.23 Mi
Swim:28h 21m 05s  - 91939.29 Yd
Strength:19h 30m

For 2012 I would really like to up the bike and run numbers substantially. If I could get to 1000 on the run and 2000 on the bike, I would be elated.

How have the rest of you fared this year and what are you looking forward to achieving in the new year?

So as I sit here on the side of the road waiting on a ride (in a not so safe place far from home) who periodically checks their spare tubes? I am going to start to as I stare at my two spares with holes in them. I was having a great ride too. Oh look a nice stranger just turned around to make sure I was ok. When you get a ride like this, where you have an extended delay no matter what, do you just call it a day? I could add an extra bike tomorrow after my long run I guess but my days plans don't really have time for this long delay.

Sorry, haven't really had a chance to join in the discussion much yet as I've been moving house this weekend and start a new job on Tuesday!

My training starts back up on Monday, but til then here's my totals for 2011:

2011 totals
Bike:111h 37m 41s  - 1982.11 Mi
Run:109h 22m 21s  - 726.79 Mi
Swim:58h 06m 09s  - 148804 M

Just noticed that I was only 1 ride short of 2000 miles! Oh well, target for 2012

I can change a tube somewhat quick.  The more you do it the faster you get of course.  I have no shame in using the tire iron's when I need them.  For me it use to be the bigger hassle of getting use to taking the back tire off but I have been doing that a lot this month with riding the trainer.  When I use to ride in groups I never got the chance to change my own tire.  Nothing like a bunch of men trying to show each other up as to who can offer the damsel in distress assistance. lol

Rounding out the new year.  Dropped by the pool yesterday since I was off work and because I couldn't leave the total swim where it was.  haven't been below 300K since I started logging back in 2005, wasn't going to start now.  Lowest swim total I've had. Bike and run also a little down, but better than last year, I need to work on better balance, less swim, more bike/run.  Which means staying away from injuries, which I seem to be prone to

Bike:167h 13m 25s  - 2771.87 Mi
Run:128h 49m 52s  - 780.66 Mi
Swim:95h 13m 40s  - 300009.7 Yd

Other good news front,  chiro/ART doesn't think it's FAI, symptoms and tests don't bear it out, and x rays negative (altho not the best diagnostic tool, the testing was more informative).  Hips continue to get better.  My accupuncturist (I must sound very woo woo) believes it's the glute min and med knotting up, she can feel it, and pulling at the attachment point below the crest, which is where the pain is.

And, this morning I had a very chill ride up Latigo Canyon with two of my best training buddies for our last 2011 ride.  A nice 7 mile climb from PCH up into the Santa Monicas.  This isn't my pic, but we had the same conditions.  This particular curve is about 5 miles in, and is tough.  Great way to end the year.

Here's to a safe, productive, healthy and Happy New Year all!!

That looks like a nice ride Chris.  I love hills so that's my kind of terrain.

Well, 2011 ended on a whimper with a non-training related injury and well the tube issue stealing some of my miles but all in all I am happy with the year.

2011 totals
Bike:198h 46m 09s  - 3008.65 Mi
Run:151h 28m 59s  - 883.19 Mi
Swim:

68h 35m 40s  - 158112 Yd

I think I'd like to get the run up though.  I know that 1000Mi is doable for me.  My body should be able to handle it easy enough.  My bike is up quite a bit from 2010 but my run is down.  But, I did a marathon in 2010 and I think they might have been almost equal had I been able to stick to my daily Dec runathon that I take part in with the tri club.

Have a safe night and happy new year everyone

2011 totals
Bike:114h 18m 20s  - 1644.98 Mi
Run:128h 54m 56s  - 737.5 Mi
Swim:32h 56m 49s  - 107631.9 Yd

Well, there are my totals!

Next year, I want to up the bike a bunch. As for the others, if I'm around the same totals, I'll be happy.

Ragnar Relay is next week, then I taper for ING.

If all goes well, I'll spend the entire month of February on my bike

As a certified Clydesdale I always make sure I have two spares with me at all times I buy spares during huge discount sales for 2-3 bucks each so I have no problem changing out both tubes twice a year even if I don't have a flat. Totals for year were much lower than goals were for the year due to injury and illness. Swim- 217,484 meters. Bike-3,414 miles. Run-725 miles.

For me, I just tend to eat when I'm hungry. As long as I eat healthly and check my weight occasionally, I find that I can stick to within a pound or so. This probably doesn't apply to most people though as I've been pretty happy with my weight for as long as I can remember and I only really check to make sure I'm not losing weight.

Have to admit that I've been interested in reading Racing Weight to see what it suggests I should be at.

And Happy New Year all!

I wish I could figure out the secret for healthy eating.  I 100% know what to do, without a doubt.  I cannot take that knowledge and execute though.  It's a mental thing.  I do eat really good meals.  I also eat good quality foods.  I eat a lot of cookies and stuff but it is all homemade.  I don't eat a lot of processed food.  But I need to eat less cookies and I know it but I don't seem to be able to stop myself.  I gained weight towards the end of my HIM training this year as well.  I am not an unhealthy weight though and I think if you are a healthy weight and want to lose weight still you have to be really diligent.  I tried tracking calories, and I had great success losing weight in the past that way but it didn't work the last time I tried.  I did start to hold steady though so I guess that is something.
