arbucklemicah - 2012-05-22 9:42 PM Thanks to all.  2 more questions, I heard if you need to you can use the float bouyes for a breather on the swim and what about the ansi approved helmets, I cannot find that on mine, it has a sticker that says CE conforms to EN 1078 will this be legal?

You might want to check out the web site and athlete guide - those will answer all of your questions.

Swim:

6. Any assistance required during the swim will result in disqualification if forward progress was made. Athletes
are permitted to use kayaks and boats as aid, as long as forward progress is not made. Special provisions are
made for paratriathletes. Course officials and medical personnel reserve the right to remove athletes from the
course if determined medically necessary.
Bike:
11. CPSC-approved helmet is required during the entire bike portion including in and out of transition area.
Athletes riding without an approved helmet or chinstrap not fastened may be disqualified.
Alterations to hard-shell helmet, which affect its integrity, are not allowed.

Found this here:  http://ultrafit-usa.com/USAT%20Approved%20Helmets%20Notice.htm

USAT Approved Helmets

Notice to athletes regarding USAT approved helmets for competition

USA Triathlon requires that all participants use a US CPSC approved
bicycle helmet. The CPSC approval sticker is found inside the helmet.
As in the past, all professional athletes will have their helmets
inspected on race day and any helmet that does not contain the CPSC
approval sticker will not be allowed for use. All helmets purchased in
the United States are, by law, CPSC approved. Aero or Chrono style
helmets may be used but must be CPSC approved.

Examples of approved aero or chrono helmets are:

Giro Advantage 2
LAS Chrono
Lazer Chrono 3
Limar Chrono 05
Louis Garneau Rocket
Louis Garneau Chrono
Rudy Project Syton Supercomp
Rudy Project Syton Open
Shain BK500
Spiuk Kronos

Examples of aero helmets that do NOT meet CPSC standards and are illegal
for use are:

Bell Meteor II
Briko Chrono
Casco Warp II
Catlike Chrono
Cratoni Chrono
KED Zeitfahren
Limar Superchrono
MET Pac III
Selev Chrono
Specialized Chrono
Uvex Factory Pilot 2

A list of all helmets on the market and whether they are CPSC approved
may be found at www.bhsi.org/helmet07.htm

Specific questions may be addressed to Charlie Crawford, USAT
Commissioner of Officials.

Sounds like everyone is getting excited which is great.  For those iphone users... I was told about an app a few months ago which is adding to many nerves.  T-zero, allows you to put in an event, any event (race, bday, vacation) and it does a countdown clock.  As of right now the race is only  17days 19 hours 29 min away!  Not that any of you obsess about things like thisWink

Speaking of iPhone apps, is there anything out there that will allow my wife to track my progress during the race?  Anything related to the chip I will wear or my Garmin that would send her live updates or otherwise let her know where I am on the course?  I have heard about these for some races in the past.

Don't think there would be anything with the chip or Garmin in regards to real-time updates. IM events typically post splits throughout the race (from when you cross timing mats only), but it is historically inaccurate, severely delayed, or just doesn't work.

You can rent a personalized GPS device from My Athlete Live. I used one for IM Louisville and my family said it worked great on iPhone and iPad.

Where did you discern that information? Or did you just count them?

OK I counted 114 M45-49. Now to enter each name into Athlinks and previous 70.3 events to determine who my closest competitors are, then stalk them down on Social Networks and Google for pictures so I can keep an eye on them in Kansas! Simple but now I feel sort of crazy......

The bib numbers are assigned alphabetically by age group. You could've found the total by taking the difference between the bib numbers of two individuals at the opposite ends of the participant list (727-535+1). This is the type of stuff I notice.

Or just use Google Chrome as your browser and search on M35-39 (in my case) and it says how many times its on the page.  Slacker win for tuwood.

btw, there's currently 177 in my AG.  Hopefully I can break the top 50 in my AG.

I'm somewhat surprised by the depth of the pro field, particularly the men's side. I was speculating that with a smaller purse prize and points this year the field would be reduced. With Lowe, Leito, Fettell, Hoffman, et al. this could be a good race.

They found out that I was injured so they signed up knowing they have a chance of winning.  But now that I'm thinking of going Chrissie Wellington on them they might back out Smile

Had my last long bike at 56.3 miles in 30mph winds and 90+ heat. Made it through but really hope it's not that hot/windy for the race! It warmed up to 95 for my 20min recovery run later. Last big run this weekend. Don't have a bib number yet, but they have my $$, so hoping to get it soon!
