ebshot - 2012-09-03 8:04 AM Just popping in to thank you all so much for all of the pm's.  It means a lot to me.

A quick update is that Cole will be discharged tomorrow afternoon.  It has been an insanely long 10+ days and I can't wait for the little guy to come home.  I have two more days (today and tomorrow) of the hour long drive one way to see him.  I'm exhausted in every sense of the word, physically, mentally, spiritually.

Even though he is coming home we still have a lot of work to do with him.  Wednesday is full of meetings to set up an aftercare program as well as schooling.  This is certainly a marathon and not a sprint race.

That's great news!  I am happy to hear that he is doing better.  You are an amazing mom.  Please remember to take good care of you!

I seriously need some spicy sausage when I'm better and the tummy is settled, too.

I have a dear German-Irish-Amero-Anglomutt (UW Mad grad too! He's originally from ... uh ... someplace small in WI) friend from LA coming on Saturday so perhaps we shall carouse European-like eating establishments.

P.S. I totally forgot he's a stand-up comic who had his own (local) TV show in LA. What's really funny is that he is not funny at all in person. But one of the best friends a girl could ever have.

His heritage sounds a lot like mine.

European-like eating establishments are my favorite.  I always end up eating way more when I go to Wisconsin because it's all sausage and cheese.  Yum!!!  Nothing better than a brat or polish sausage cooked correctly on the grill.

Well, he's currently languishing in Korea and rather homesick, so I shall cheer him up with sausage! (And melon presses, no doubt). We can get great sausages here because the Hindus don't eat cow so there's plenty of pig (as opposed to most of the other islands which are Muslim), but good cheese is very expensive and hard to come by. Still, I think he'd just as soon have sausages and probably Mexican food, too--a good friend of mine has a Mexican restaurant here that even Mexicans have said it's some of the best Mex food they've had! It really is incredible.

He's a runner, so maybe we'll go for some (very easy) runs together, too.

Fall is nearly upon us. I usually get a touch of seasonal depression but was really trying (sucessfully, even) to count my fall blessings. As you said, good food, football, running season, seasonal beers (Pumpking by southern Tier!!!!!) but I had a major setback this weekend.

I spent nearly all of my time outside as Seattle is on day 46 of no precipitation. I went out to our family property on the canal where we dug out a couple pits on the beach and grilled a TON of fresh seafood we had pulled from the water. Oysters, clams and crab then some other items like short ribs, lamb skewers and even some bahn mi. Ughhhh, suddenly not excited about fall again. Sigggghhhh.

rrrunner - 2012-09-02 3:44 PM I don't mind shopping.
Shopping for running shoes is more stressful. I have a half dozen pair that don't get much use because they make my feet hurt or give me blisters. I worry about getting yet another pair that seems great at the store but doesn't pan out. My current pair are zoots from REI.

REI has a great return policy!  Bring 'em back.

This is very, very true. Probably the best return policy ... ever? I also take advantage of  the policy from the other end as well because all the returns go into the garage sale section at our REI downstairs and you can buy it for super deep discounts. Sometimes the only problem with the item is something like, "User said it didn't work but admitted to being the least tech savvy person on the planet."

I got a great pair of bike shoes for $18 and a pair of hiking boots for $20 at an REI scratch & dent sale on Saturday.  The trip got more expensive when I bought my son a pair of $50 hiking boots (originally $250) and me a winter bike jersey (with awesome removable sleeves) that I've been eyeing for a while for $80 (originally $150). Oh and some frisbees for the dogs.

REI is dangerous.  We're going to have the biggest dividend next year.  We've already spent close to $1,000 this year on a BOB stroller & accessories and a roof box.  I think I'm getting a new Garmin or GPS watch with the dividend.

A guy in TT asked about his training for an upcoming HIM.  He's on the Fink plan and was told, repeatedly, that his bike volume is low.  I know you all have mentioned that about the Fink plan so my question is once I switch to that plan how/how much should I beef up the bike?

Whatever's on the Competitive plan. If that was the one you were going to do, then add some 60-mile rides and you should be fine.

Do the Intermediate plan then but follow the Competitive for cycling.
