The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did my last long run last night- ran for 3 hours and got in 17 miles!! Stayed in Z1 the entire run and held a decent pace- I even walked for 1 min after every mile to simulate walking the aid stations! It was a huge confidence builder for me and I'm more excited and optimistic about IM FL now. I just want to have to fun during the race! Tomorrow is a long training day- a 6.5 hour bike followed by a 45 min run and then a 4,700 yard swim- YIKES! It'll be a long day but after tomorrow it's all downhill from there! We are getting so close...

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck Runnergirl on your long day tomorrow! I am done with those kind of training days, thank goodness. It is about recovery this week then working toward taper. Be careful. I am hearing from several people at this point who are still doing long, hard training and showing signs of over training and injury. Listen to your body. If you have already done several of the 4,400 plus swims, and don't feel like you can do that swim tomorrow, then don't. At this point, we should all be there. The foundation is laid. Just stay safe and sound for the next 21 days!!! Becky |

Good for you. You WILL have fun, trust me! Just have a good attitude and talk to everyone. Yo meet some incredible people out there. When you go nice and slow like this you CAN have fun! I always stay very aerobic for long distance like this. 4700 yard swim? I thought the IM was 4200? Also are you doing the long workout tomorrow in race order? I would be worried about swimming that far after everything else. (personally of course I think I would drown!) |

LOL! I am planning on doing an OWS in the lake with my friend- we'll have our wetsuits so it's impossible for me to drown And my plan is to stay completely slow and aerobic for IM FL! |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow! Ya'll are really doing some long swims! 2.4 miles is 4224 yards. I did two swims that were longer than that- 4,300 and 4,400. Wearing a wet suit will make it so much easier, so I did not see a need to do longer distances than the actual swim. But I am pretty comfortable in the water. I'll get an OW swim in here Sunday too- with the wet suit, mainly to check chaffing areas. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, now that we are at 18 days.....(Doesn't it sound close now that its in the"teen" days..... and tapering, is anyone else out there thinking- maybe I need just one more 100 mile ride...just one more 18 mile run...did I do enough? Were those long, long traning days really that long- long as I needed? Crazy thoughts...I did my schedule, I know I am ready, but now, the antsy time starts....the temptation as my body recovers and starts to feel strong again and not so tired and sore to just plug in one more "LONG" session....I KNOW I can't do that- it goes against taper. But it's still a thought in my head I have my lists complied for T1, T2, SN Bike and SN Run. This weekend getting large bags for each one. Labeling and filling with my list- off to the Sports store and Wal Mart. I'll fill more productive doing that kind of mental work at least. Yea, only a 60 mile bike ride this weekend with a 4 mile run off the bike, and a 7 to 8 mile run the next day...easy weekend. Still plenty of swimming to do. Tried to do an open water swim Sunday, but our reservoir looked like the ocean, only worse- huge waves from the wind. I'll try again Saturday. Everyone be safe- Becky |

Everyone be safe- Becky Becky--They give you the bags for all your Ts and SN..They are labeled.....and they gve you the stickers to label them. The ony thing I recommend is a insulated lunch bag for anything you want to keep cold. I attached a photo of the bike special needs so you can see how they lay it out. See the orange bags? Each bag is color coded. Let me know if you want any other photos. I have a bunch from 3 races. Hope this helps. Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Jeanne, I knew they had bags with the numbers when we got down there. I'm such an orgnizer, it would help me to put things together at home so I am not stressing out there and can be sure I have what I need. It's just a mental thing with me! So, are you in for IM Florida? Doctor give you the go ahead? |

For packing purposes, I plan to label a bunch of plastic bags for SN and transitions and fill them with everything before I leave home. Hopefully my plan will work and it won't be as stressful before the race. |

We never really figured out what was going on, but I feel so much better now! I ran last night, I was going to just run for an hour, and I was doing so well and felt so great that I ran an extra 2 miles and could have kept going but I was cold! Going to go drown, I mean swim tonight. I think I can make it through the race, but I just had such high hopes for doing really well (like 13 hours!) which for me would be flying! (Sigh), I am really afraid of the bike - as in lack of time in the saddle. But you can always walk the marathon, right? LOL. Oooo! I forgot to tell everyone...I got compact gearing! I'm so excited about it. It really makes a difference. Now for my climbing gear I have a 36-27! I can really keep my RPMs up in the 90s with no fatigue. Maybe that will get me through the 112....and a lot of luck and chamois butter! Have a great night! |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great news on the racing Jeanne! You will do great. Think positive thoughts about the swim. We are all gonna be like fast bobbing corks out there in our wet suits. It makes such a big difference! Here's a thought to share with some of you. I have sent a few emails to some of my close friends asking them to jot me down a short inspiration message on about a half size 3 x 5 index card. I plan to have my son put them in a baggie and put in my run special needs bag. I know there will be walking breaks on the marathon and I can pull out a card to lift me up and inspire me. One of the guys here said to tape messages to my bike, but I'd just wreck trying to read them - LOL! The cards will connect me with family and friends back home, plus, they can say 'they were with me' during the IM. I am all about inspirational words!!! Becky |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Becky, that is a great idea! Thanks! My friends put inspirational words on their water bottles. I was going to try to do it on my aerobars...but that was to remember my posture! LOL. Have you read "Hidden messages in Water? http://www.whatthebleep.com/crystals/ If you want a good movie to watch, "What the Bleep" is great and really would be a good thing to see before all of us race. Very inspirational! So heres the bigger question? Which wetsuit should I wear? Sleeveless or sleeved? I tend to overheat quickly so I'm leaning towards the sleevless. I swam 1.2 miles in 35 minutes in the pool last night and then jumped on a stationary bike. Man, all the bikes at my gym are in bad, bad shape. They really need new equipment! Tonight is power yoga. Tomorrow is a brick! whoo hoo! |

![]() ![]() |
The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I prefer sleeveless! You could always bring both of them and do some practice swims in both to determine which one you prefer for race day. |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I prefer sleeveless too. I like more arm movement and once I get going I warm up. Last week, the water temp there was 81. I'll be checking it as we get closer. Thanks for the suggestions of reading and watching. I have not read or watched either. On another movie note- finally WHAT IT TAKES is out! It is the IM movie that follows 4 IM champions. I have just ordered it and it will be here before IM Fla. I will bring it to Fla as well. Maybe we can have a "movie" night one night for anyone wanting to see it. We can share high carb snacks while we watch the movie. If anyone is intersted in seeing the trailer or how to order, shoot me an email and I can send you the link. Or you can probably do a search on What It Takes and find it. Our Jackson racer in Kona reported in. He is fine and says as far as he knows, the race is on, for now. The competitors are back at normal race week stuff. The unlucky ones are those whose flights out there got cancelled and delayed and they are arriveing several days later than expected. Becky |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Am I crazy?? I've checked the IM FL website 3 times today knowing that our BIB #'s most likely wouldn't be up yet. BTW- at first I thought tapering was great, but now I'm not so sure. I already feel lazy like I'm not doing enough and I still have over 2 weeks of tapering! Surely I'm bound to go crazy!!

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Runner girl...I am feeling like I need to be doing more too. I was warned about this at taper time. I suppose if we start going stark raving mad, we can always swim as much as we want to...But it's going to be odd to "only" bike 40, 60 miles....and "only" run 7 to 9 miles..... Becky |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am so excited about having my offical number. I plan to do up some self motivational flyers for myself with the IM Florida logo and my race number on it. I'll plaster everywhere I am to keep me motivated...work, on my computer, on my door at work, on my refg at home, on my car....on my bike! Got a great dose of good mental motivation and IM drive last night in my training session. I needed it! Had been going through a bit of "Black October"...what hits right before an IM when its taper time, you are keeping the garlic, crosses and surgical masks all around to ward off sickness, evil spirits and anything else you think might trip you up for IM - LOL..... So, to feel that power and drive and see the 'attack' look in the eyes again is very good. BA |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I bought some Airborne last night to start taking. The last thing I want to do is get sick at this point! I don't care if I get sick after the race, just not before please Jon hasn't been feeling good for the past 2 days- he sounds like he has a mild cold or something. So we didn't hang out last night because we're both worried I'll get sick. What's worse is that he works at a school, so you know he's exposed to all types of germs- especially since he said his students have been going home sick! I haven't goten a surgical mask yet.... |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm on Zicam right now with EmergenC. Just trying to keep it to a headcold. Went to yoga and with all the down-dogs I got a little extra congested....ugh! I like Airborne too. I drink that on airplanes everytime I fly. |
