Mike (or anyone having problems copying the list) -->
Copy the code below and paste it into your log.
(It may still have problems due to line breaks that occur when you copy. If that happens, let me know and I'll walk you through fixing it.)

Hey Dee;;

Sounds like you guys have a great group..Just wanted to check and see if the shoulder was cooperating? One of the members of the group I am working with here in Atlanta had similar issues so I was wondering if you got some of yours straightened out?

Happy Holidays

Steve

ps....this will give you at least one good reason to pad that post count...

oh ...that's right...

Hi Steve!

Yep, we do have a great group!

I've been experimenting with stroke technique.

I "watched" myself during the swim today, and I'm already rotating quite a bit, so that might not be the problem. (Thank you for that advice though!)

It's ONLY occurring on the side opposite my breathing side, so I'm thinking the breathing may have something to do with it.

Today, I tried to breathe more on the other side. Awkward, but I've read that this may help the problem. (Breathing on one side only puts stress on the opposite shoulder.)

Also, Yanti said her opposite arm is straight out when she breathes, and Yanti is an absolute swim goddess! So I tried to swim this way. To overemphasize it, I did "overlapping arm drills". I'd leave one arm straight out in front of my until the other entered the water and caught up to it.

Finally, I tried to keep from dropping my elbows. I also read that this can put stress on the shoulders.

End result: I swam 1350 yds today. I didn't push it, and tried to concentrate on form. And.... ta da --> No pain! (A bit of an ache only, which is "acceptable".)

So those are some ideas that you can share with your friend. Also, I think that I tried to increase my yardage too quickly..... When I increase running distance or speed too quickly, my knees aren't pleased. So it makes sense that if I overdid the swimming, it would be my shoulder that wasn't pleased.

Hm. Did I just wrote a post that wasn't "fluff"???? (Don't tell Cat.)

Happy Holidays to you, too!
Dee

Got in a little late this morning.  My daughters "totally safe"land rover turned out to be not so safe.  My son-in-law was able to jump out before it exploded.  His cell phone was melted to the console.  Made for an exciting morning.  The picture is below.

Good to see all the exchange.  Work was a push today and had to squeeze in five miles on the treadmill at the end of today before taking clients to dinner.  Work and snow get in the way.  Your comments about being able to train at will are well taken.  No pool until I get back to AZ at the end of the month.   Reading about the swim strokes was very helpful, I am at the "feeling totally clutzy in the water" phase.  When I get to AZ I will exparement with breathing on different sides.  It makes good sense.  If anyone has questions about running, go ahead and ask.  I have done a lot of it and have in done some smart stuff and pretty stupid stuff.

Off to bed, will update logs tomorrow...

Be good my friends!

In the new Grinch movie, Cindy Lou sings a song called "Where are you Christmas?" because all the excitement and happiness isn't there for her.

Then I can't say that I do.  Some days are better than others but all days are good for me.  The only real frustration I have is with not enough time in the day.  Between work, taking care of my wife's needs, travel, etc. the day is too short to get in all the training that I would like... And, for that matter, lots of things I like.  But, I don't think I ever feel like Cindy Lou.

I  hope you don't feel that way much either.

I am sorry to hear that... I remember when I had my first full time job and worked until Christmas Eve afternoon.  Somehow it was hard to get excited about it when it just landed upon you and getting ready was so hurried.  But you get used to the speed of life and it can still be filled with the joy of giving and sharing.  You just have to let your frame of mind go there.  Think of it as a game and you win -- The score is "joy of giving" 1 - stress 0.  I have found in life that the only thing that I can actually control is my own attitude.  This is a time of year where you should let yourself enjoy it and don't let school get under your skin.  Once you are done no one asks and no one cares.  In the 28 years since I left school no one has ever asked how I did there -- it only seemed to matter that I got out in one piece.

Keep your head up my friend, tomorrow is a new day and it will be your day!

Thank you for those kind, wise words...today is exactly 5 months till I graduate and I couldn't be happier.  Now I just need to destress from a long semester and take a few weeks off before it starts again.

PS:  I read that you are a senior in Child Psychology.  That must be a challenging course.  I can see why the work could be overwhelming.  I know that course of study is tough but don't let it roll you over.  If it is meant for you, it will get easier.  If it stays a source of great stress, take a look at it.

"Find a job you love and you will never work again for the rest of your life"

Again, good luck my friend.

Wow Emerson - looking at the pics of the car...and just in shock. As if you need more drama in your life. Of course no-one needs drama...but my thoughts are with you. Sounds like your son-in-law was very lucky. Hope your afternoon was a little more restful! ;o) Hope you had a nice and quiet evening.

Quite the car fire certainly glad no injuries. I see your still up, oh I forgot Ca time 2hrs behind. Still have not been able to post the group in my log. Maybe I'll try at home on ours. You ever talk to anyone about what it is like to do the swim from Alcatraz? Ever thought about trying it. I think it would a real challenge, I heard the current in the bay is very strong and you have to swim in an arch to land right at the exit point. Mike

Dee - your the best! I did it, I have the list in glitter pink I want to learn to do some more cool stuff to my blog.

Emerson - Wow the fire was dramatic, and glad everyone was safe. Ok, question on running: When you first started out what was your mile pace and how long did it take you to start improving on that? What do you think is most important thing to increasing speed and endurance?

Pam - I know the feeling your talking about, as we transition through life the things we associate with different events change and it makes us realize that we are no longer that same person, life is sorta taking over. But remember this, for me those times seems to come and go and you make new goals, new friends, new jobs and grow into this person you never knew you were... It is truly amazing, you have only just begun to transition, get ready for some wonderful times to be had in life, take each opportunity good and bad to grow and experience your feelings...it will mold you into the very special individual that you are. The most important thing you can do for yourself is embrace who you are and love yourself... It took me 42 years to learn that very "hard" lesson. Have a wonderful day!

Ok, today is Mother/Daughter shopping day. We leave early and shop, eat and maybe go swim or do a hill workout... I will check back with my group later.

Question: We have our annual family cookie bake day Saturday all day, so what does everyone think, should I not taste a thing or fall off the wagon and eat cookie dough, chocolate, candy, etc???? I know if I start it will be hard for me to not keep eatting for days after. I'm thinking don't let anything touch my tongue and then I will be safe, I usually gain about 7lbs at this time of year and then have to fight to get it off.

Why, why, why, was I not surprised to find that our beautiful thread had been tainted by the glitter?  It's like the bird flu.....it infects every blog it touches

And me, padding my posting count?  Oh no, my little mentees or mentos or something like that....
