Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL learning_writer - 2008-02-20 6:42 PM How should I work both training plans at the same time? Should I just chill on the running the week before my triathlon? I'm worried if I miss the big run that weekend to do my triathlon, I'll be off on my running, but then again, I'll be doing a triathlon! Maybe its not that big of a deal...Thanks for your feedback! You definitely want to back off the week of your triathlon! The most you will probably be running during that week is 20-30 minutes... One suggestion is to do your long run a "few days after" your race. You race on Saturday, run a cool down run(JOG) on Sunday (maybe 2-4 miles), do your long run Tuesday, then rest day Weds.... Then back to normal... It has been my experience that you really don't want to miss your LONG workouts! You don't have to do them on the exact day they are scheduled, but you do want to be sure to get them done!!! Hope this helps?! |

New user 16 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL I am in the tail end of a taper week....BUT, I registered for the Miami International Triathlon on Mar 16!!!!! And I am psyched!!!! I was eyeballing it for next year because of cost, then discovered I had 50k frequent flyer miles!!! Soooooo...yeehaa!! I considered challenging myself and doing the Olympic distance, which I think I could pull off, but decided to go with the Sprint since this is my first one, and I want it to be incredibly memorable.... Sorry for rambling, just had to mention it Have a great weekend!! Dan |

Member 49 Calgary, Canada | Subject: Feb 17 recap Had a good running week. Weather was nice in Calgary and I wanted to test how the legs were performing. Long run on Sunday, ran twice into work (13km) and there was no pain. Big hurray and quite a relief as there was some discomfort 2 months ago! I also bought a GPS watch, the Garmin 305. They really came down in price about $210 at Amazon It really motivates me to run as for the first time ever I know how far and slow I am! It now does not matter where I run anymore as I know how far/hard/long I have run. Highly recommended weekly totals Bike 48.50 KM - 2h 38m Run 52.80 KM - 5h 47m Swim 4600.00 M - 2h 00m Monthly totals and Goal 279.37 KM - 12h Bike over 400 km 108.20 KM - 11h 49m Run over 120 km 20450.00 M - 9h 00m Swim over 25000m Big training week coming up with 9hr bike+3 run+3 swim without interrupting the family life. Training wise I have no idea what I am doing but I just try to follow the canned 20 week IM plan on this site. Edited by ITan 2008-02-26 10:56 PM |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Umm... Workouts for last week??? I don't feel that good about. Everytime I swim, it sucks... my calves feeling like they are starting to cramp the entire time, my arms get tired (shame on me for not swimming enough, but I want to Complain!!).... Running is going well.... AND BIKING WAS MINIMAL THIS WEEK I couldn't resist switching things up yesterday and going for a hike (weather was too nice)..... Last weeks totals: Swim 3200 yards Ran 28.2 Miles Bike: 11.40 (Computrainer went out on me!) Hiked 7 miles (3500 elevation gain) Month Totals/Goal: Swim: 5400 yards/10 miles (a little over 1/2 way-BOO) Bike: 150 Miles/200 (I have to push it this week) Run: 93.7/100 (I should knock this out..) I have a short week this week. I fly out on Thursday down to Arizona, and will be Driving back to Seattle w/ my dad!! NICE ROAD TRIP, but no workouts from Saturday through Monday.. I am going to try and squeeze in a run in Arizona before we drive out Saturday?! |

Veteran 267 Sterling, VA | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL I love my kids, even when they give me wierd illnesses. No run this morning due to the rain and the cough, but tomorrow I should be back in the pool. Does anyone have a similar experience to mine? I started running at the age of 12, competing pretty heavily for the next 7 years. Sub-two minute 800m, 4:46 mile, 15:40 5k personal bests... Jump ahead 12 years. Back running, and feeling like the world is standing still. I know I am making strides compared to where I have been over the last decade, but damn, it's so frustrating. My swimming and biking, which I never really focused on in the past are great -- I feel stronger every workout, and can go see myself going harder and faster. I know it's in my head -- I know I am getting faster on the run, but I can't shake the feeling that it's not going to get better (irrational I know... but still there). Any advice for hacking my brain to perceive otherwise?

Member 49 Calgary, Canada | Subject: Feb 24 recap Wow, that was a monster week. I have never trained this many hours in my life. The amazing part is that there are no pains and strains, so hopefully all body parts are holding together. I found a way to cram 4hrs of training in one working day (see my Feb 27 log) Leave home at 5 AM, jam 2.5 hrs of swim and bike before work, 1hr noon hour jog and a 45 min ride back! weekly totals Bike: 178.00 KM - 7h 30m Run: 35.30 KM - 3h 40m Swim: 10250.00 M - 4h 40m Monthly totals and Goal Bike: 19h 13m - 427.37 KM (>400) Run: 15h 29m - 143.5 KM (>120) Swim: 13h 10m - 29700 M (25000) This month challenge 6 days a week in the pool for a month.... I am in this MWF 6AM triathlon swimming class for the last 1.5 year and I am still the slowest :-) Let's see if just more time spend in the pool will improve my "feel of the water" and make me a fish (Well I can always dream) My swimming coach has not given up on me yet, but he must have pulled many hairs out of his head. Hope all your training are going well! Edited by ITan 2008-03-03 8:58 PM |

Veteran 267 Sterling, VA | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Bike ordered, personal trainer signed up for a session or two a week for the next few months, on the hunt for either: a) A money tree b) Quick way to becoming independently wealthy On the non-cost side, workouts are going very well and I have added a short (1/2 my swim time, which makes it a quarter of my ride) brick run after I get off the bike. And I am still alive, so that's definitely a plus |

I've been slacking a little this week on my tri-training (maybe because of the race), but hopefully, the tri-suit will reinspire me to keep going until my triathlon in May! |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Hi all, I should have played the lottery two weeks ago. I had what everyone describes as a "routine procedure" done last week and developed one of those one in a million complications that resulted in a CAT scan and an emergency Laparoscopic surgery on my abdomen! Holy Crap! So needless to say, my exercise level for the past week has consisted of walking from the bed, to the kitchen to the bathroom and back to bed. Codene is not good for the GI track but it sure does make lying in bed a hell of a lot more entertaining. One day when I was feeling better I got inspired and went for a walk, then took a 2 hour nap. Does anyone have any good tips on getting back into training? I am not really in pain anymore, but due to the surgery my abdominal muscles are very weak and sore. The time crunch is that my husband and I are signed up for a sprint tri at the end of April. I was in pretty good shape prior to all of this, but I don' t want to fall too far behind. This is my husband's first tri and it is really important to me that I do this with him. I was thinking some easy bike rides and maybe swimming (calmly) would be okay. No pounding up and down on the muscles with those activities. It is amazing how much you use your abdominal muscles. My back muscles are very sore now for compensating for the lack of tummy strength. Best of luck to all of you with your upcoming races. |

My wife had that done 3 years ago... It is going to be a tough go for a couple weeks but I think you may be able to "tow the line" at your TRI at the end of April. You will just have to take it easy up until then! Swimming will be tough due to the "stretching of your Abs." I hate to be a downer, but just listen to your body! If you have to do a BRISK walk, and that makes you feel better... Then do that! Riding easy should be ok! Please keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing!! When is your surgery?! |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Hello everyone, I am a week back from the surgery and feeling much better. The two incission points feel more like tape on the skin and the ab muscles don't hurt when I stretch up anymore. I "jogged" around the block with my girls while walking the dog the other night and that felt fine. The nice part is I finally feel like I am getting my energy back. Hopefully I will go for a short bike ride this weekend. I hate feeling so crudy......and now that I feel much more human again my husband is trying to keep me under control! Thanks for the advise. I was worried about spending a long time in the pool (water seeping into the incission). Sorry if this is TMI for everyone. I am anxious to hear how everyones races went this past few weeks. Keep posting everyone so I can live/train through all of you online for a while. Tracy |

I hope it doesn't seem out of place! I just wanted to report that my 8k went WAY BETTER than I ever would've expected. I ran it in about 48 minutes...under 10 min miles. That kicks the butt of any time I've run before! I'm very excited for myself. |
