Extreme Veteran 504 Tucson, AZ | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild You guys are amazing. I look at your speed and yardage and am in awe. I added 45 minutes today and it just about killed me! I ran 21 miles yesterday and then had a full day, no big deal. I try to swim without breaks and my wheels come off. Well, form gets pretty funny without the rests at the end. I can see where this is going -- I am getting better -- but it is going to take a while. That puts me at 42%. I will need to get to 100% by the 25th as I will be traveling after that. I will get there and intend to add one more for good measure. Thanks for all the encouragement. |

Modesto, California | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild We are getting spanked by everybody! Granted most of the other teams have some pretty weak goals, but geez, we should all be at least 30% or alot higher by now! We need to bring it up a few notches. I will , thats not a problem, I hope others do also. We cant get embarrased like this. Wouldnt hurt for everyone to check in also! |

And I have to say the absolutly only reason I got my rear out of bed and walked through the pouring rain in the dark to the pool after my workout buddies bailed this morning was because of the challenge and my team. Thanks for keeping me motivated!! woo whoo keep splashin!! Edited by Out4atime 2008-01-14 2:11 PM |

CONGRATULATIONS TO WHO'S YOUR MARMADADDY?! BUT remember that this is only the SECOND week of the challenge! January is only 41.9% completed. There's still time to help your team achieve that #1 ranking! So get out there and Swim/Bike/Run!... And then Swim/Bike/Run some more! Dee and Beth |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild Great job everyone! We moved up a couple spots Lets keep that going for the rest of the month! I sent inspires to a few people that I have not seen check in on the thread or logging anything in their logs. Not sure what's up there, but check in with us if your out there somewhere! I got a short swim in today, 800 yards. I needed to take it a little easier than I did last week because my neck and shoulder was pretty sore after last week. Also ran 2 miles after swimming. I am officially starting my 1/2 mary training! ACK! It is supposed to start next week, but the plan I'm following starts you off with a 5 mile long run. I'm going to do a 4 mile this week because all I've done up till now is 3. So I'm counting this as an official start since I'm doing more than I have been during this off time. Yikes... I'm into my season again! |

TinkerBeth 23096 Liverpool, New York | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild January Challenge Week 2 (aka, The World According to Beth) Swim, bike, run, post, post, post! The cornerstones of the January Challenge! Ok, so posting really isn’t one of the triathlon sports, and really has nothing to do with the January challenge, although early in week 2 you wouldn’t have known that based on the posting activity of the Talking Tilapia Flying Fish and the Twisted Blisters! Members of both teams took the posting challenge to heart and members of each team valiantly tried to out post each other. They even started to resort to replying to each other’s posts within their own thread (ummmm, certainly nothing yours truly would have done) – LOL!! Captains Kendra and Beth called a truce and started new threads and the focus is back on the challenge (although, the blisters are ahead in the post count hehehe!) Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild nevergivin - 2008-01-15 9:53 AM D, shouldn't (klauser) be at 11% on the spreadsheet and not 1% ? Thanks Nevergivin -- The cell was changed to "time." Technically, it's correct (since klauser is swimming for time, rather than distance.) However, EXCEL doesn't cope well with doing calculations using "time." I've changed the cell back to a regular number. So it now shows him/her at 13.3%. The Wet and Wild team is now at 42.26%. (It's still the same place, but there's less of a gap now.) FYI for those doing "time" --> It's easiest if you convert your time to a number. So if you swim for 30 minutes, record it on the spreadsheet as half-an-hour (ie: 0.5 hours). That way, the percentage is calculated correctly. Dee |

Extreme Veteran 504 Tucson, AZ | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild Total melt down on the swim today. Up at 5:00 AM for our earnings report, scheduled calls all day, finely got a free hour from 5:00 to 6:00 this afternoon and went for a run instead. Not enough time for the pool. I will make it up on Sunday like I did last week. I cannot believe how work gets in the way of my training sometimes. Also, ice on your windshield and stream over the pool is not abnormal out here. I live at about 3,500 feet next to the Catalina Mountains in the desert north of Tucson. It is normal to have ice at night and walk in shorts in the afternoon. A 30 - 40 degree swing is normal. The only really hard part is the pool deck. It can be VERY cold on our feet heading for the pool. Once in, you start swimming -- immediately -- and life is good. Thanks for all the support! Keep up the good work my friends. |

Extreme Veteran 461 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild I will be swimming tomorrow and friday to finish up this week. I did 800 yesterday. I needed to drop back some because of soreness and it really has helped my neck/shoulder situation. Listening to your body really works!!! Anyways, to make the 800 a little more challenging or exciting, I swam it straight through. First time for an almost half-mile swim, so I'm feeling really good about the sprint tris I have for this season! I haven't thought about how much I'm going to swim for the rest of this week. I've now started classes again and it feels like I'm in a time warp with way too much to do and think about now. |

Extreme Veteran 483 Pacific NW | Subject: RE: Wet and Wild Good morning swimmers! I'm 77% complete for the challenge! But, I've had a rough couple of days at the gym... my attitude sucks, I'm slow as shiznit (I'm convinced that the density of water has increased recently), and my body is soooo tired. But I still got my heiny there and pushed through it. And thank goodness I had the restraint to keep myself from pushing the spin instructor off his bike and walking out of class. No, he didn't do anything wrong, I was just in a bad mood and thought that might make me feel better. Anyway, I think that I'm either way overtired or trying to get sick, so I'll knock down the intensity over the next couple of days. And try to get some extra zzz's. We're half-way through the month, do you think we can get to >60% by the end of the week?!?!? |

I was up, started getting ready, stared at my swimsuit, thought about all the muscles in my body that were sore and the fact that my scheduled swim workout would be my longest distance ever. then had an internal debate in my head for 10 minutes and.... went back to bed. I already skipped my swim over the weekend so i can't keep bailing on the pool! Part of it was that my swim partners are already getting flaky the second week of classes so no one to meet at the crack of dawn. And I would much rather swim 3000m in a 50 m pool that's only available from 7:30am til 8:45 than the 25m pool that's available later in the day.

This happens to everyone at some point. What I do when I start to flake on workouts is I plan out what the next two weeks or month will be. When I take an hour of my time to sit down with a planner and figure it all out, I feel more dedicated to what I'm doing. I also try to find new workouts and new challenges so that I always have something to look forward to rather than just another boring swim/bike/run. You can do it! |
