Speaking of sales...... anyone want a new pair of race wheels?

http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes/components/zipp/wheels.269.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=Campaign+Monitor&utm_content=355007778&utm_campaign=2008+Zipp+Wheelset+Sale&utm_term=Zipp+Wheels

BEING A WOMAN CAN SUCK!!!!!  I did a 20 minute stretching routine last night and think I hurt my back.  I use to be able to bend like a rubber band and now I am proud that I can still shave my legs!! (slight exaggeration but you get the point). Funny, I remember when I was giving birth my OB commented that my extreme flexibility was a great thing for "making room" for the baby and now I make all kinds of funny noises when I try to do a back bend.  WHAT HAPPENED!!!  I refuse to admit I am getting old so I'll blame it on the kids.  Loss of flexibility and that wonderful excess skin around my belly from having such large babies.  BE THANKFUL YOU ARE GUYS!!!!

Sorry about the rant.  T.M.I.  I know.  I'll go take my MIDOL now

YOu should be happy to be a woman. I know alll the guys here are. I have a part that used to stand up and watch me shave now all it does is stare at the floor. So don't feel to sorry for yourself

Ok, new direction - weekend looks like a wet one around here, with forecasts containing flood warnings.  A group of us has tentative plans for a 12 mile run tomorrow, though I told them  w/ my current mileage I'll probably bail after 8 or 9.  And of course if it's pouring, I'll bail during my mornning cup of coffee.

What do you guys wear when you run in the rain?  I have cycling rain gear, but seems like it would be too warm for running.  Recommend me something breathable and water repellant.

The only time I run in the rain is when I get caught in it   I would recommend a hat and glasses.  The few times I've been out in the rain I didn't have glasses or a hat on - because of the overcast- and the water running into my eyes was a problem.  But I'm guessing a normal, intelligent person would account for this ahead of time so my advise is bunk.   Do you have a light waterproof wind breaker?  Is it going to be cold too?

I do have a light windbreaker, but it doesn't breathe well and I end up as wet on the inside of the jacket as the out.

Some of us are unphased by the cold   It should be mid to upper 40's.

Tricky TRICKY!!  What I do (if no rain) is wear a long sleeve technical shirt w/ a VEST (much more air through there....) if Raining I usually where I lighter shirt under a jacket (due to the fact not much breathing....)

I think Bob's suggestion is the best for you. I would opt for something else for myself though
Usually I Make sure I have a good baseball cap to keep the rain out of my eyes. Other than that just a lighter jacket and put up with the uncomfortable par of the non stretch jacket. Then havea agood hot shower once you get back to keep the core body temp up if needed.

Well the weather cooperated today and we didn't get rained on until the last 1.5 miles and by then it was actually welcome.

No kidding.  I've come to rely on the EST people to provide me with some reading material to enjoy with my coffee first thing.

Had a great run Saturday, actually my second longest run ever.  I like the varied terrain of the trail vs. the steady pounding of the pavement - plus you can run slower and blame it on the trails.

ETA: Steve, climbing shoes on Steep-n-cheap right now.

Classic... Missed it... They are now selling women's sandals!  SHOOT!  Not quick enough.  Thanks for the tip...

Side note: TNF Endurance Challenge is going to be in Bham again on June 9th or so!  A great/tough 1/2 marathon...

We talked about this during our run Saturday.  I'm probably going to do it, though I'm not sure if it's going to be the 10k or 1/2.

Boring weekend for me - just battling the leaves.  That took all day yesterday, but at least it's all done.

Today I got to run in the mid-30's.  I hate that.  I'm hoping to get used to it though because last winter I took way too much of a break and I paid for it this year.

Sorry we easterners culdn't accomodate your morning coffee read. Pretty quiet weekend. I went out and bought a snowblower. Now I have to put it together before it snows. Sunday I did one of my longest runs. just over 11K. Today I did an 1800 meter swim. I was planning on doing a 400 m warm up and then work on my technique and some speed drills. As I got into the swim I thought just another 200 m (10 laps). Next thing I knew was at an hour and they were kicking us out of the pool for their lunch break.
Moved a new washing machine into the house and dropped it down the staris in the basement. Good thing it only fell a couple of steps. A slight adjustment with my BFH and it was just fine. Got it all hooked up before my wife came home and saw my handy hammer work. The washer works just fine so I came out smelling like roses.
I've seen a lot of specials on the Chainlove like cycling shoes. I have been using the same shoes cycling as for running. For those of you that use cycling shoes does it make much difference in your cycling and subsequent running. I was also thinking of putting areo bars on my road bike before next season. I won't be getting a tri bike any time soon and will probably have to do my HIM on the road bike. Do you think it would be a vast improvement as far as comfort , aerodynamics and time to do that. I will also be getting some better wheels for next season. Still a few bucks but not nearly as much as a tri bike.

Hey guys, I'm back....  so I basically have taken the 2 months off completely away from everything triathlon related, but now I have signed up for the Calgary 1/2 IM and I have to get started back up again. Hopefully it comes back quickly. I gained about 10lbs but I have not held back at all. I do miss the training though and ow it made me feel so giddie up.  Things over all have been well, work is work, everything else is OK.

I don't know if I told you about my last running race about 1.5 months ago. it was 10KM run through the beautiful town of Banff Ab (If you have never been you must go someday http://www.banfflakelouise.com/ & http://www.skibanff.com/  So I kind of crippled myself for this race. the day before I went out for lunch with some friends I haven't seen in a while and letts just say we didn't stop drinking until about 7PM at which point I went back to work until 12AM. Got up and drove to Banff (1 hour away) for the 8 AM start. PUlled off a 57Min time. Wanted to do a lot better but I was hurting. I guess it gives me something to shoot for next year.

Anyway I am back and should be in touch more often, got find a good plan to go by. I think I am just going to do a maintenance plan till the new year then start up a dedicated plan and maybe hire myself a coach. Anyone have any advice on that one?

 P

Yep, and it was just Beer, we had tequila, double Rums. I woke up in the middle of the night and the room was spinning and I thought, " I didn't drink that much" then I started to count. way too many, and the night before a 10k. At least I can use that as a base line. I should never be slower than that.

Cycling shoes - absolutely!  They make a huge difference for the biking because you're using the whole pedaling stroke instead of just mashing.

Nice job on that washing machine! Laughing

One more thing - to use cycling shoes, you also need clipless pedals.   Not just because you take advantage of the upstroke, but cycling shoes are completely smooth on the bottom, so they slide all over the place on a regular pedal and would be useless.  The exception would be a mountain bike shoe because it has nubs on the bottom that will "grip" a regular pedal.

Hey guys, I'm back....

Great to hear your back Perry. After that kind of liquid lunch I don't know if I would have made the drive to Banff. As you say it is beautiful country though. Good luck with the Calgary HIM. I was hoping to sdo that one next year but couldn't talk my wife into coming out to Calgary after going to Cuba for a couple of weeks in May.

I second the endorsement for bike shoes.  They make a huge difference.  I would recommend getting a pair of tri specific shoes.  They are designed to get in and out of easier, i.e. usually one or two velco straps vs the cranks and straps that can come on some cycling only shoes, and some are designed to be worn without socks. I have a pair of SIDI and absolutely love them.  Shimano also makes quality cycling shoes.

Then after the cycling shoes you need a pair of YANKZ laces for your running shoes. They make for a much faster transition. (Just don't look at my T times as a reference )

Shoes make all the difference (along w/ the pedals).... 1 strap, vented for feet to dry (a little chilly in colder weather).  Aero bars --- ANOTHER HUGE DIFFERENCE!!

If you are going to do it... DO IT RIGHT, and if YOU CAN'T BE GOOD.... YOU GOTS TO LOOK GOOD!!!!!!!
