Offthegrid - 2008-10-23 8:42 AM I asked my parents if they would come to see me if I did an Ironman race in the future that wasn't too far away. My mom said: "Why would we want to go to a race? What would there be for us to do there all day but stand around?" So I guess I'll never have a cheering section like other families. It makes me really sad.

I'm right there with you.  In my three races I have done this year, I have had no one there cheering me on.    I hope that as the kids get older that might change.  My husband is afraid he'd lose a kid if he tried to bring them to an event!  My parents couldn't care less so they are out too.  Oh well, some people just don't get why we do what we do.

Okay, we are back from Cole's Dr appt.  I am not a huge fan of his ped's bedside manner but he seems to know what he is talking about.  I got the referral to a different audiologist.  Score.  I call tomorrow to make the appointment.  We are also going to see a developmental ped and have some testing done.  I have to wait for the case worker lady to call me (she was in a meeting of course).  I feel a bit better that things are moving in the right direction but I know it won't move as fast as I would like it to.  I am anxious to get some answers and instead of more questions.

Back from my yoga class. I always dread if beforehand, and I always feel so wonderful afterward.

Instructor was having us practice the beginning of crane pose today. He said to start by lifting just one side off, then the other. Everyone in the class began revolting, but I kept at it and eventually I was able to lift my right side off! I was really excited about trying to do both simultaneously, but then we moved onto something else.

Had conferences today at the school.  Went okay.  Oldest and youngest are golden.  Middle...not so much.  I don't get it.  Same gene pool yet super different.  Oldest and youngest are VERY similar but Cole is just WAY different.  Don't get me wrong, I am okay with different but I don't see why he has to have all the issues!  At least spread them out between the three kids!  Nope, poor Cole gets dumped on.  He is going to be evaluated by the OT.  His fine motor skillz suck.  Gotta get his hearing checked again.  For like the 10th time.  He fails every time but not by enough.  They always tell me to come back in 6 months.  I am tired of it!  Give me some answers.  Why does he keep failing????  Why won't you fix the problem?? What is the problem???  I can't get anyone to listen to my concerns in the audiology department.  GRRR!  I am almost at a loss of what to do.  I guess it's time to start demanding second and third opinions.  Why do I have to fight to get answers for my child????

Rant over.  Thanks for listening! I feel a bit better.

That stinks. no one should ever have to fight to get proper health care or to find out what's going on with them or their children.

I am such an emotional eater. Whenevet I get stressed I want to reach for the chocolate. Luckily I have resisted thus far today and for the past few weeks!!!!

Whenever I eat some, even if its a little, I want more and its harder to stop once I've started. So I just try really hard not to start at all. It usually works

Totally know what you mean. I'm the same way with all junk food. When I started really eating healthy, junk food tasted NASHTAY! Like why on earth do people think this tastes good kind of nasty. But then, a let a little slip here, had a bit there, and now, I'm back to eating junk food and thinking it tastes good. Yuck. I'm the same way with candy - I don't like candy, yet once I start eating it, I don't stop. Urgh. Good luck making it through your stressful afternoon without it!

One tip I saw is to keep a small set of handweights, like 2.5 or 5 pounds, in your desk drawer. When you want to reach for candy, reach for those instead and pop off ten bicep curls or tri kickbacks or something short and fast. You aren't doing real ST, just giving your hands and mind something else to think about and giving that craving time to take a hike.

I am the same way with food especially fried food like fries and burgers and bacon and stuff... that idea with the dumbbells is great I will have to use it. thank you

ebshot - 2008-10-23 7:42 AM Morning fellow Vamps!  Gonna try to get my run in today.  With Cole's doc appt, he won't be going to school and the other kids have a half day.  So, trying to squeeze it in around lunch time.  Gonna take Cole with me to the YMCA to see his friends and then take him out to lunch.  Should be fun!  Totally keeping him home after his doc appt.  A half day of hookie is okay right?  I think so, for a little bonding time.

When my son has a dentist appointment I always keep him home for the rest of the day. We go out to the shops have lunch, check out the toy shops-kid stuff.. A dental appointment deserves a spoiling i reckon. The funny thing is last time the next day my son said "Mum, Can I go to the dentist every day?"

Awwww, so cute!

I just updated the spreadsheet.  I moved some of last week's totals to this week just to see where we're holding as a team.  We're at 71% with a week left to go...

Wow!!!  That's a tough one.  I have a hard enough time doing the crow and handstand thing.

My daughter does acrobatics and all kinds of dance.  She can do some amazing things.  I posted a picture in my blog not too long ago.  I asked her if she could do this and she said she didn't know but wouldn't recommend that I try it and she wouldn't do it without properly warming up.  Thanks, Exhibit A.  Safety first!!!  She cracks me up.

That's so cute!  I love kids.  They are a crack up.  A ton of work, some heartache thrown in but a lot of laughter too.  Makes it worth it.  We had a very nice lunch at a local restaurant/ice cream joint.  Yum.  So much for keeping track of my calories today!  Well worth it though!

That is why yoga scares me.  I am not the most coordinated person and I'm afraid I'd hurt those around me.  Yikes!

Totally worth it!!!  Quality time with the kidlet trumps calorie count any day of the week and twice when he's playing hookey for the afternoon .

That is a great photo. I wish that I was that flexible. I used to do yoga... don't remember why I stopped. I think it was because I couldn't attend classes because of the time they were at the YMCA.

Where are you in Atlanta?  My sister is an administrator in the school system in the special ed department.  I think she is in Decalb county.

I live in the northern suburbs... Alpharetta... so I'm in North Fulton County.

I actually also have a sister who lives in Alpharetta!  She is also a teacher! Nice area.

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!

And we were totally only working on the very basic steps of that pose, but actually doing one side really opened my eyes a bit.
