velcromom - 2009-04-23 4:35 PM WHY DID I LOSE ALL OF MY STARS?!?  Where did they go?  How did I earn them in the first place, and how do I get them back?

And, finally, do any of you race with salt tabs?

Just keep postig and all of the stars will come back... for awhile... before disappearing again...

Kathy G uses a good bit of salt tabs. I have used them occasionally--on the 10K of my oly turned du last fall when it was hotter than hell and I had abd pain I figured I was sweating too much and needed some salt.  Also took some efore the race last weekend cause my feet cramped up when I tried to warm up for the swim.  (was it the cold or 'lytes...don't know I figured a few salt tas would not hurt)

Linda,

I get some newsletter emailed to me from USAT and there was an article about hypontremia and triathlon (particularly long course racing) in it.  If you don't have it I'll get the link for you.  It may help you decide about salt tabs.  It doesn't compare any brands--just talks about the risks and how to prevent hyponatremia.  (which is low salt and can be extremely risky can cause seizures from too low a sodium)

I had an AHA moment swimming today.  I spent the whole session thinking about hip rotation.  As I did that I felt the reach into the pull go longer and realized the stroke count went down.  I was slower than usual but tha's probably to be expected.

Thanks!!  I get the same newsletter, and am getting salt this weekend!!

Get the AHA moment.....rotation is the buzzword my kids HATE hearing from me, but the difference is dramatic!!  If you REALLY want to see the difference, do it on your back.  Hopefully you never do this in a tri, but at a practice it can really drive the point home!

Did a little 4.2 mile race today....Pat Tillman's run.  4.2 is in honor of his NFL number, 42.  Did it with DH and youngest son.  SO JAZZED for all of us!!  Z did 29:44 finished 14/141 in age group, hubby did 29:18 15/183; and I did 32:20 - drumroll.......7th out of 194 in my age group!!!

on to little league, then a ride.....I thought tapers were supposed to be easier than this!!!

Hey all, I did it!  I also filled in my race report.  Not a bad day, but I'm not thrilled.  I am, however, a half-ironman!  #2329

My transitions stunk.  I THOUGHT my swim was better than it was.  My bike was much better than I thought it would be, and my run was tough - hills, and it felt much hotter than mid-seventies.  Lot of water on my head, and hose-squirts!

My youngest hurt his achilles, and couldn't run, so the family relay added another runner.  Hubby and older son (9th out of the water, overall!!) did great.

Thanks Judi and Kathy and Kathy and Jessie and everyone else who wished me well before and congrats after my first sprint!

I wish I did better in a few areas, but I still thought I did great and it was a TON of fun.  Yeah, I guess I'm officially hooked-- after a little thinking I committed to my next sprint in ~6 weeks (I figure I can squeeze one in before ankle surgery has me laid up in mid-July) that will start with a 1/2 mi swim in Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.  Seriously.   I'll be psyched for one with a longer swim (this last one was shortened to 250-300yds!) and less hilly course and more time to prepare for stuff I suck at!  Woo hoo!

RedSoxChick did the same tri and went practically right from the finish line to the airport to start a mini-vacay, so we should probably hear from her in a few days.

Who's got events coming up?  What's everyone up to?

I am back~  i felt like a football player after the super bowl....
"so you just completed your first Tri of the season....Whatta ya gonna do??"

"I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD" The trip was fun but we were tired; sitting on a plane for 3 hrs is not way to recover!!

The race was fun but SOOOOO HARD!!!! I've been out of serious training over the last 6 weeks and using the new job as the excuse - i really need help gang!  My first Oly is 19 days away!  I had a great mile+ swim yesterday and was gliding at my happy 2 min/100 pace so that's no problem.... its the next 2 legs that i'm worried about.  I need to get out of the funk i'm in!

Why are we as a mentor group so quiet??  I thought i was the only one slacking - what has you guys so quiet??  I know Cat is on winter break but the rest of us here in the US should be gearing up for a new and exciting season!!

Hey, folks.  New week - what's going on for everyone?

KathyG - congrats on the win with your daughter this weekend!  How'd the man do?
Lisa - what's in store for you during your last push before your Oly?
Helen - How'd the OW go for you in comparison to the pool?  Do you like wetsuit swimming?
Linda - Your training looks great!  Feeling ready for Auburn in a couple weeks?
Kathy - 200 peaches in a row-- IMPRESSIVE!

I had a "you know you're a triathlete/swimmer when"-moment on Friday: I was checking the pool schedule online to see what the closings were like around Memorial Day weekend and found out that OMG - they've blocked off two hours mid-day to move the bulkhead!  That meant the pool was being changed from it's 25yd configuration to the 50m pool it'll be for the summer session.  I was SO EXCITED I raced home at lunch to grab my suit and biked to the pool as soon as I was done with the workday, hoping to beat the crowds for a less populated lane.  What crowds?  The pool was empty!  There were only two other people in the lap pool when I got there.  I actually forgot for a moment that on a beautiful, sunny 70 degree Friday evening that I would be one of the very few people who would be geeking out over the fact that the pool is now 50 meters.  Ha!  I felt like such a dork.  And at the same time, incredibly pleased that I had a long lane to myself.

Anyone have a "you know you're a triathlete/runner/biker/swimmer when..." moment lately?

Classic, Mina!!

Love the "you know you're a triathlete" moment.  Haven't had too many of those lately but I think it's because what I do is so ingrained now.

16 days, 7 hrs 5 mins 19 secs until THE MOOSE!!!
well i just swam 1900 in 40 minutes so i know i'll get thru the first leg no problem it's the other 27.25m and 10k that i'm worried about.

I'll be doing a good ride or two this weekend with a brick for sure... GULP

now as for 'you know your a triathlete when...."  This morning i packed a bag and drove out for a swim... and now I'm sitting at work having come straight from Walden Pond...which doesn't have shower facilities..... hey it's fresh water   i'm just afraid that a tadpole might jump out of my hair at any moment!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I'm feeling ROTTEN!  Bronchitis, sinus infection, ear infection....cruddy.  Hate sitting here, but have no energy and no lung capacity.  Dr. told me on Monday that I wasn't moving air, and that biking on Sunday made her top ten list of stupid thing she'd heard that day.  I had to agree.  When do you all start back up after you're sick?
