1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by whichwayisdown Fifth, I'm in a very similar situation, and I let it screw with my head. Luckily I'm back on track now, but it was a trip for sure. I'd say see if you can transfer yr registration to someone else or defer until next year. Then find another one you can make and sign up for that! Great idea here ^^^ - see if you can transfer it to next year or maybe get your money back if they let you... If it makes you feel better - I was told I wasn't allowed to sign up for many races this year (I have only signed up for one! but have a couple more in mind) because - no reason. LOL. (and last year I only did 2!) I still want to do the NE Season-opener if the knee cooperates - it's on Mother's Day (and my birthday is the next day so I'm hoping this works out (knee pending)). It's tough but someone did mention that maybe your family will recognize what you're giving up is meaningful to you and next time they'll be there to cheer you on. Find something to cheer them on about and celebrate their success and they'll see how good it feels. Tough to swallow, believe me, I know. |

How do you handle being forced to miss an event? I'm signed up for an awesome gravel bike ride in June, and it's looking like I may be forced to miss out, due to my wife's work, and family stuff. I'm more angry than disappointed right now. I've missed events from injury and stuff like that, but this is MUCH worse. No good reason other than I have responsibilities that trump hobbies. I'm ready to break things.... seriously. Here's how I would handle it. Two words: Drink Heavily... and then sign up for another race. 3 months is a long time to be pissed. treat yourself to something so you don't feel like you are getting hosed. Sorry man! Oh, I like that one too. ^^^ beveraging and impulse buying in a sporting goods shop - I would be on board with that. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by Qua17 Came home today after an absolutely crappy day at work and asked my sons: "What would my response be if one of you was training for a race and you asked me if you should go for a ride or blow off a workout." Both my sons told me that I would kick them out of the house. So I listened to my own advice and went out for a ride. Glad I did - I had a blast! I was really hitting it hard and some of my splits were in the 17 mile an hour range, which is flying for me. I was having some much fun I might have been talking to myself on the bike. My bikes name is Billy Baroo - just like the putter - and when I am really enjoying myself I have been known to let out a "Oh Billy Billy Billy Billy!" To reward myself I took my sons to my favorite wings place. Had a left hand milk stout. Life is good! Fantastic!! Wise (and cute) boys you've got there!! Bike porn - like it! I REALLY love that you still have your last race number on it!! Excellent. Good for you getting out and dodging potholes! It was snowing sideways here today! |

Two words: Drink Heavily... and then sign up for another race. 3 months is a long time to be pissed. treat yourself to something so you don't feel like you are getting hosed. Sorry man! Good advice! One thing that helps me deal with disappointments in general is to allow myself to feel sad, and then put the disappointment in a positive context. Sometimes it's because I tried something I knew I might fail at, and I'm glad I was brave enough to try. Other times I miss out on something because ultimately it's not consistent with how I want to live my life. For example I recently "missed out" on a career opportunity because it would have meant changing a few things that I really like about my life. So while I was sad about the opportunity itself, I can be proud of myself for recognizing the baggage that would come with it, and avoiding that. In your case, I hope you can be happy with yourself for putting family above racing. Also... not sure how to put this... but your wife and family will probably be much more supportive of your racing if you can take this disappointment in stride. Christina is wise. So combine all the advice and take it in stride, drink heavily, go treat yourself to some sweet gear, and schedule something else in which you can use that sweet new gear! Hug the kid/s and know that someday they'll be out there alongside you (and work things are hard to get out of so your wife may not have a choice in this, I don't know). |

I did 10 miles on the stationary bike today. Low resistance, just keeping the legs honest. I still have one muscle that's sore. It seems like I'm always right on the hairy edge of being ready for the Tuesday workout. Sunday is my long run and I guess I'm pushing it just a tad too much. I'm usually ready for the next run (Thursday) and I should be again this week. Since this Sunday should be a shorter run, I'll see how I feel by next Tuesday as a test of my theory. Shirts: Our team store is now READY! The pricing is currently set for 6-24 pieces. If we are going to have more than 24 people buying, then it could click down one more level in pricing. Here is the pricing link to show what I mean: http://www.jakroo.com/pricing/ As for our team store.... http://shop.jakroo.com/storefront/BDAS Please post a Yeah! or Nay! as to whether you plan to purchase one with your next post. I'll use the roll call of who plans to order one to see if we will be greater than 24. I'll count up the totals over the next week. Once we have the price set, the goal is to order by March 31st and for delivery by April 21st. That would be a big yea for me. Thanks for all you did to make this happen! April 24 - just in time for the season opener in Hopkington on May 10. You in Jenn/John? |

Jenn - I have a tradition of leaving the number on my bike until I race next - but I might keep that IM sticker on there a while longer. I worked hard for that thing! Glad to hear youre thinking of heading South for the Season Opener and I hope your knee gets with the program. I also hope for some warm weather for you. Yesterday the temps down here in MA were in the low 40's but the winds were killer. I hope spring gets here son - although its going to take a month for all the snow to melt and even longer before the work crews fix the potholes. They are TERRIBLE! Have a great day! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Morning BDASers! I love signing on and seeing us at the top of the Forum page. This place is on fire and I'm loving all the support I'm seeing on these pages! I woke up this morning and got my swim and aqua jogging in. My times in the pool are getting a little faster. Last month I was in the 2:30 x 100 range and I've knocked 15 seconds off that - so that's good. In order to take the next step, I'm gonna need to start losing some weight. As you can see from the pic - I'm carrying around a lot of beer weight (and donuts and ice cream, and chocolate, etc) and I need to take the next step and make this happen. With a HIM to train for - I know ramping up my training with so much weight to carry around is only gonna cause me pain. Have a great day everyone! |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Hey All-- First, count me in for a shirt of some kind (bike or tri, haven't decided!). Things have been super hectic around here. Today I have to record five hours of lectures for my class for the time while I'm away in Egypt. My throat is already scratchy just thinking about it! I can't even remember the last time I had a moment to post, but I have been keeping up on everyone's activities. Looks like there are some good things happening, and of course, the crappy things, like race cancellations. Sorry to hear about that, it is a total bummer! At 5 workouts for the week, including a nice outdoor bike ride on Monday afternoon. I'm pretty happy that even though all heck is breaking loose here with travel prep (not aided by Egypt cancelling the visa upon entry program), I've been able to hit my workout goals. With a nice yoga session this morning I'm up to 94/400. I need to make an effort to do more yoga and/or general stretching. I was so tight this morning I couldn't do poses I know I've done in the past. Even those poses I did manage to do hurt. Happy training everyone! |

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Well one practice and 4 hockey games left to coach for my kids and we are done. Looking forward to the free evenings! Workouts have been consistent. It is great to have my kids tri-ing. Last night my 7yr old daughter wanted to go for a run as soon as I got home...We did a half mile loop...she did awesome. My 12yr old son who has started hitting the weights, got me on the cycle trainer Monday night. We are repeating all of this tonight! This weekend I am going to a beer tasting at a liquor store. Should be interesting. If you want to check out the menu go to www.devinewines.ca and click on events. Finally...I am hoping for a weight loss tomorrow...2 weeks of no losses. Very disappointing!! Pretty sure I am in for a jersey. |

What's that? Yes I am in for the shirt Its an old military tradition. http://custom.nwtmint.com/news_challengecoinhistory.php basically if someone checks you at a bar and you don't have yours you buy a round, if you do then the one who challenged you buys it. |

Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business My daughter can swim! I'm very excited! I am definitely in for a shirt- they look awesome! - any thoughts on the see throughness of tri tops that are white? That concern has me thinking bike shirt- but I'm curious if anyone has used a white based tri top (probably not as much of a concern for the guys- but what color sports bra would look good under it?) I'm trying to get in workouts but work is crazy and daily swim lessons for DD are complicating things. I start my run training group next week- so will hopefully get my butt kicked. |

We use the San Francisco branch. |

The burning question for me is - the number (6-24) is that based on total ordered of the design, or total ordered of an individual item in the design? In other words - do we need to order 6-24 bike jerseys and 6-24 tri tops, or can it be a mix of both? 38 Arlington, Virginia | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business For the shirts: I'm going to say nay for now, but they look great! Workouts: Medium swim Monday-1100 yds, Circuit HIIT session with my trainer on Tuesday, and a short swim today-950 yds. The HIIT stuff kicked my (very sore) butt on Tuesday! The combination of bodyweight exercises with cardio proved to be a different and better workout than I was expecting. I was having trouble with the stairs up to my class on the third floor last night. This morning I almost didn't make it to the pool until I realized I could swim mostly pull drills, and leave my sore legs to rest. I threw in some breaststroke for recovery, and I think it helped loosen up my muscles. Lots of stretching too! Tomorrow is my first spin class and I am TERRIFIED. The seats are killing my sit-bones (I'd imagine it's a combination of not being used to the bikes and being overweight) so I doubt I'll do the whole 45 minute class, but that's okay. Just another thing to get used to, right? |

I have to wait on the knee prognosis so it may be a bit last minute. Just another thing to get used to, right? Don't fear Spin! You're not supposed to need them, but I totally wear padded cycling shorts under my running shorts (so I don't look too much like a cycling nerd) for my 1hr spin classes. I did the same class with tri shorts this past Sunday with similar results (butt comfort) even though they have about half the padding. Or less.... The saddle soreness will get better, it takes some time to build up to it but it will get better. Make sure you show up early - like 15 minutes before class start early - to get the bike adjusted comfortably. It'll make a big difference with surviving the whole class comfort-wise. |
