Subject: RE: bEASTies - March Winds ChallengeI saw this last night but was just too tired to think... I figured it would also be a good thing to do at work! How long have you been doing tris? My first was a sprint tri in Aug 2005. The next summer I was "off" since I was pregnant with my 2nd, but have been doing at least one each summer since then. What got you into triathlon-ing? Hah... a girlfriend mentioned it to my husband, and then kind of to me as an afterthought. I thought it would be a good idea to try to lose the baby weight from my 1st. Honestly, it also irked that I was an afterthought... like I couldn't really do it. I wanted to prove her wrong. It actually ended up being a whole group of us that did this race this summer - me, hubby, our two friends and my sister in law. It's now an annual tradition! What are your goals this year? To redeem myself at the Cayuga Lake Oly. Last year, I thought I would never make it across the finish line. I need to prove to myself that I can do much better! And that an Oly can be fun too. Also, want to do the century ride for the Tour de Habitat this year (up from the 50 miler last year). What's your favorite tri sport? Hmmm... this is tough for me. I come from a swimming background and have always loved swimming. But I'm not a huge fan of swimming with creatures and it is such a pain in the arse to get to the pool. These detract from my love of swimming. I now really like biking actually, which is surprising to me since this was the part I hated at first.
What's your least favorite tri sport? Running, hands down. I have awful form and I am slower than a snail. I never get any faster and I just find it SO frustrating. And my calf always hurts! I do wish I could just suck it up and run more, because then I would HAVE to get better and would probably like it more.
Current challenges/obstacles? Like many others, my biggest obstacle is just juggling family, work and training. I am also a master procrastinaor so I NEED a plan. And a challenge like this to hold me accountable! What's your favorite part about training for tris? Completing something I (and many others) never thought that I could do. I love that feeling of accomplishment that you get when you cross the finish line! I also like setting a healthy example for my kids and showing them what you can do with a little determination. What's your least favorite part? Again, the running... Really, the weather maybe? Every single race I did last year had pouring raing for some, if not all, of it. I also do not like the previously mentioned lake creatures. How many races did you do last year? Without looking at my log... 2 spints (but got a flat in one and didn't do the run), one Oly, a few 5Ks and a 50 mile bike.
How many races are you planning on this year? Probably 3 tris - definitely one Oly, one sprint. The 3rd could be either sprint or oly - haven't decided yet. A few 5ks here and there. And hopefully a century ride this fall. |
