I'll probably be in your area around the 4th of July.  I visit my aunt and uncle every year over the holiday.  I'll come cheer you too!  Or better yet, if there is a race, we can run together!

Sounds good -- we don't really have any plans. Maybe we can find a 5K or 10K.

I just finished the cowboy costume!  I have two hours to spare!  No worries!  Yikes, it kicked my rear for awhile but it came out pretty good.  I'll take picture's tonight.

She is like a super cyclist, so I can help her learn to swim and she can help me gain biking fitness. We hope to ride together tomorrow morning, but they are calling for very bad weather.

To keep warm, I have on: lined Crocs, turtleneck, thick sweater, pants, shawl on my lap and cycling glove liners. I kid you not.

Another girl was wearing a scarf, coat and hat. It's cold!!!

So here's a funny tale from the locker room...

This morning as I was changing after my swim, an elderly lady comes into the locker room. I hear her get on the scale and sigh. Then she gets out this giant apple tart and eats it -- before exercising. Ha ha ha!

Carbo loading?

Needless to say he doesn't enjoy the whole spectator thing. Never mind at least he doesn't put any obstacles in my path to keep competing.

My hubby was not so supportive last year. At first it was kinda cute because he said how much he missed me, blah blah blah. But then it caused a lot of problems. Now he is a LOT better. I try to do most of my workouts in the mornings (tough; I'm not a morning person), but the other week I was riding the bike trainer at night and he saw how sweaty I was and he got me a cold paper towel and put some ice in my water. Awwww. Also, I try not to ask him to come to a race unless it's really important. I want to do my first half-marathon in May, and that's a big deal to me. I'm going to ask him to come to the finish line, but not the start line -- no sense in him having to get up at 5 a.m. if I'm not going to finish until 10 or 11 or something.

I try to all my training mid week when the hubby and son are at school(I'm have the luxury of being a stay at hame mum) or early mornings so the don't even realize I'm doing it. The weekends a d evenings are reserved for family time/needs.

I only ask my family to come watch the important ones also. They both came to support me at the Disneyworld marathon! All the way from Australia. They didn't seem to mind that one???

Then it's Christmas which is during our major school holidays- my son gets nearly 8 weeks off. What do you do with an 8yo for 8 weeks?

Do you have other long holidays during the school year? Here, kids get about 3 months off during our summer... so I guess Christmastime is like the equivalent to that. I remember my favorite Christmas card ever. It was on an Internet forum and everyone who wanted traded addresses, so you got cards from all over the world. One of the cards from Australia had Santa in shorts sitting in a beach chair with a pina colada.

TThe kids get4 school terms of about (roughly) 10 weeks and they get 2 weeks off between each term. So many hols make it hard to find employment that will allow you to be there for your kids on those breaks!

One of the things on my bucket list is to have a white Christmas one year. We dont get snow here at all except in the mountains and then it's unreliable. And with global warming.....

Offthegrid - 2008-10-23 8:42 AM I asked my parents if they would come to see me if I did an Ironman race in the future that wasn't too far away. My mom said: "Why would we want to go to a race? What would there be for us to do there all day but stand around?" So I guess I'll never have a cheering section like other families. It makes me really sad.

I'll come cheer for you Susie...You live close to me!  <img align='middle' src='https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/smile.gif'>

Yeah, I kept meaning to ask ya' -- are you doing any PA races next year? I was thinking of trying Steelman. It'd be my first Oly. I heard the bike was hilly but the run was pretty flat. A friend and I also plan to go up to Lake Placid to spectate and volunteer. She plans to sign up for 2010.

A friend of mine did Steelman 2 years ago.  She loved it.  The bike course was very hilly!  At the moment, I only have runs planned for next year.  I am definitely running the Lehigh Valley 1/2 marathon in May.  Come join me!  It's a fabulous race!  I plan to register next week.  The price goes up after 11/1.

ebshot - 2008-10-23 9:34 PM I finished the costumes for the kiddos.  Well, almost.  I do have to re-make a cowboy vest tomorrow.  I ran out of fabric so I have to wait.  It wasn't perfect so I want to try again.  The native American costume came out pretty well.  I'll have to have the kids model them so I can take pictures.  I'm now trying to make pajama pants.  Nice, cozy, flannel ones.  I have the pieces all cut out but am thinking I'll wait until tomorrow to sew them up.  A bit nervous about the elastic waist bit though.  Anyone sew????

I cannot sew at all...great job!  Show us the pictures!

edited because I first wrote "sewer"...is that spelled the same way as the place sewage goes?...ha, ha...it didn't look right!
