Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread fsusoccplaya - 2009-11-02 10:12 PM Does the race usually sell out at the registration site or are there typically any slots left open for online registration? I want to drive to Panama City Beach to register, but I wouldnt be able to be there until 10 am or so and i know that it opens at 9am. What do you all suggest that I do? To all those racing this weekend: Good Luck!!! You are about to join a very exclusive club! Last year there were slots online for a while...like close to 48 hours, I think...Not sure how many they have for on-site registration, or even if they have a cut-off? Hard to know what to do! I haven't been paying much attention-are IM races still selling out in a matter of hours? |

Member 131 Birmingham, Al | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I also want to say good luck to all of you. Myself and a guy that I train with are headed out Friday morning. I will be volunteering in body marking. I think we are staying at the sleep inn which is about 3 miles from the boardwalk. If anyone needs anything I will be glad to assist. See you guys first thing Saturday. |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Catwoman - 2009-11-02 5:52 PM Wow! I can't believe it is almost here. Talk about pressure! lol- There were balloons, posters and streamers on my office door today at school. Everywhere I went children were wishing me luck and asking me about my race. One of the classes made individual posters for the race. It was so sweet I almost started crying. What seemed like a dream a few years ago is now coming true. I'm going to be a basket case Saturday morning before the swim start. Especially when they start playing the National anthem. Can you believe I never cried when I did the race in 2007? I thought I would bawl like a baby at the start and at the finish...but I didn't! I was so ready to get started and so happy to be finished, I just never leaked.....until the next night We're gonna have a great day out there One that will be etched in your memory forever!!! Woohoo!! |

Swimming is my weakness, so I will be happy to have some of you to swim with. : ) I can't believe that this time next week this will all be over. I'm hoping the water doesn't get too much colder.....I'm a cold water wimp! |

New user 71 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I think I'll be fine as soon as I'm standing on the beach, knowing I made it to the start. Does anybody else have the strange feeling that all of this is going to actually get easier once the gun goes off? I keep hearing the same thing from people that have done Ironmans: the training is far more difficult than they ever expected, but the actual event is easier. I don't know if it's true or just an evil plot to convince more people to sign up! This is like hazzing. We'll tell the new folks the same thing next year. It's a vicious cycle that can't be stopped |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Tips for spectating on the bike: Last two times I went to watch IMFL we spectated on the bike course near the bike turn around. It is a great place to watch folks as you can place yourself where your racer pass by twice. For those of you with family that want to see you my recommendation is to have them watch you swim and go off on the bike, then drive out to intersection of 2301 and 388 towards the turn around for special needs. They can see you twice on that little out and back. Ideally they can drive out to that spot down 388 the opposite way of the bikers, normally we would see the pros coming down 388 as we drove out. Park on the other side of 2301 where racers don't go. It is a little farther than half way on the bike. Nice thing is you catch folks after they make a right hand corner so they are going a little slower and then you see then again after the turn around some 20-25' later. |
