kaburns1214 - 2011-06-23 8:29 AM Craptastic bike.  Super humid and windy.  Felt like I was riding through jello.

Good to see I'm not the only one who uses the term craptastic.  BTW it might rain here again today.  2 days in a row may be the record for the year.  BTW Cindy skipped the girls' swim lessons yesterday to run on the dreadmill and she was sore preworkout and did it anyway.  These are 2 things that would have made her skip workouts in the past.  2 workouts in and I'm already proud of her.  That and the fact I have to return some 32 inch waisted pants because they're too big made me do a happy dance last night.

Finally got a foam roller the other day. We have been making out like Newlywed's for the past two days. The left calf, hammy, and IT band have all been bothering me for 2 weeks.  2 days of foam roller, and leg feels great.  First time in a while I ran pain free. 7.1 miles this morning. Apparently I need to stretch more.

Scott, that's great Cindy is getting into it.  As I mentioned a few weeks back, I bought the wife a Specialized Dolce, and she loves it.  She was a runner in high school, and did hurdles.  Casual runner after that, then just a walker after the boys were born.  She has started running again, and has been riding her bike.  She did 12 miles on her bike last weekend, alone, and was damn proud because she made a big climb without stopping. I doubt you'll see her on this site anytime soon though.

It really is great.  I had stopped pushing on fitness and figured she'd come around in her own time and that me pushing would only cause issues.  Low and behold her friends start signing up for races and she gets interested.  Funny how that works.

Same here except with my husband.  I kept pushing him to run with me, or bike with me, maybe do a sprint triathlon.  No interest what-so-ever.  He will train for a couple of months each year for the Peachtree 10k (got to love all the Atlantans that decide each May/June that they better start training for the Peachtree - and are out there in the awful humidity), but then he stops.  This year however he started meeting some of my tri buddies , thinks they are all really nice and a lot of fun (because they are!), and has started doing more.  I'm not saying a word, just letting him know what I'm doing in case he wants to join me.  It's working way better than when I was constantly on him about working out.

Last week I asked him if he would do a marathon with me (he did a half  several years ago with me - only because it included running on the Indy 500 race track) and his response was "not this year".  WTH?  The response was always no, so "not this year" completely shocked me.

I need to come to Atlanta and do something.  Have a few buds there that do Tourgh Mudders and Warrior Dashes and hell I was born in Decatur.  Would be a ton of fun.  Maybe I can convince them to drive to Augusta for the 70.3 there or maybe Anderson, SC for the Rev3 event.  Hmmmmmm.....

If you lived here you already know about summers, but might I suggest you avoid April thru September. It's miserable!  There's a very small window of fall & spring weather, then it's cold (which I prefer).

Augusta is a nice race though.  And I've hear good things about Rev3.  Chatanooga Oly is the best race ever, it's in July.

Clearly that shot would never take place in real life.  Plus Thor is MUCH taller than Cav (like 6 or 7 inches).

Always kinda wondered if a bike race the size of TdF would be entertaining to watch in person.

could figure out what you all were talking about when you were mentioning TdF-then it clicked-DUH!!

OK 25 miles on the bike today. got a late start because had to go to an editorial meeting first. Forgot to take any electrolytes and struggled in the heat near the top of the climb. Little no-see-ums flitting around my face the whole way up and a big black heffer standing out in the road giving me the stink eye, but made it to the top. Luckily when I was blasting back down the steeps at 30 mph the cow had headed back into the junipers and was not blocking the road.

Hey, I was going to mention with your wife starting to run, you might want to encourage a simple strength training program.  As you and I both know it is very hard to overcome injuries and to a beginner it can be discouraging and possibly sap their spirit.  I am speaking from experience and a fairly new runner over the last year or so.

On our book club note:  Finished reading Macca's book over the weekend.  Great book. He is still a little too bold for my taste, but it a really great book and offers alot of advice for beginner up to advanced. There were a few tear jerkers as well.  RECOMMEND

Slept in this morning.  Heading out for a ZR ride and then driving up to Lake Placid (will be swimming and possibly running tonight).

It's like running in a sauna outside here this morning.  Got in 9 or so miles.  May try and get some laps in tomorrow in the pool and will be on the road for 50 miles on Sunday with the sounds of the roosters.

31 miles for me this morning on the bike.  I got back just in time for the rain to start. Route 169 out here in Northeastern CT is so scenic.  You can see for miles with rolling hills.  Goal today was to keep the HR down and just enjoy the ride.  136 avg.  I was happy with that.

I had my first real experience with almost getting hit by a car. Car was at a stop looking to cross the road that I was biking down, wanting to get onto another street. As she was sitting at the stop, she starts slowly creeping out. There is no stop for me as this is the main road. So I am thinking to myself as I see her, I bet she is going to pull out right in front of me.  Yup, she sure did.  I had to skid to avoid her, and she just kept going.  I came within a foot of hitting the side of her car. I was wearing my flourescent yellow jersey as well, it's not like she couldn't see me.  Glad I made it back to post my workout!

Have fun in LP Kelly!

I am trying to figure out a way to get electrolytes on long out and back runs where I only have water along the course.  Gatorade endurance would be hard to mix along the way. Thoughts?

Nuun tabs, Gu tabs, Hammer tabs?  Any experience anyone?

It was a sauna here too!  And I also ran 9 miles.  I love starting the day with a good workout though.

Swimming tonight at the lake.

Riding 90ish miles tomorrow followed by 45 min. run.

10 mile run Sunday.

Planning to spend the rest of Sunday at the lake with our 3 dogs.  My husband has a buddy that lives on the lake.  He usually goes without me, but with dogs.  This weekend he has requested I go so I'm starting my run super early Sunday so I can go.  Apparently there is a little private beach on a small island out there, and they take the boat over there with our 3 dogs and his 2 dogs.  Should be fun.  Must remember sun screen!

I like Nuun.  Recently bought Gu & Hammer and they are all very similar.  Not sure of the difference between sodium & potassium levels, so if you want more of one or the other, compare and pick the one that has what you want.  They are convenient.

I want to say NUUN has more sodium.  They make electrolyte pills if all you have is water.  Put some in a pocket and pop them??  Not sure of how effective or how fast they absorb.
