jashac - 2010-10-15 6:47 PM Does anyone know the transportation situation at PCB airport?  do they have a good crew of Taxis?  I'm thinking of not renting a car for the week.

That means I'd have to bum a ride to drive the bike course.
Thanks

Google search PCB airport and check out their website.

jashac - 2010-10-15 5:28 PM It's getting close enough to be planning race week.  I plan to swim on Wed, Thurs, and Fri mornings.  Just a short dip to help me get accustomed to swimming in the ocean.

In '08 there were a group of us met each morning at 7:00 (I think).  It was fun and on the same schedule as race day.

Any one up for a swim each morning?

I'd be up for swimming in the mornings for sure!

I'll want to swim sometime, but I don't want to commit to anything race week, especially nothing at 7am.  :-)  I recognize I'll have to get up early on race day, but I think the week leading up to it, I might want to sleep in a little and get some extra zzz's.

I did my last [really] long bike today...6 hrs on the trainer.  It was slow, but my legs feel great!  My running is behind what I would call ideal, and I may try to do a 15-16 miler tomorrow, just because, but I think I'm about as ready as I can be!

Ran 14.35 miles today with no negative impact to my metatarsal stress fracture! Big confidence booster! I think I'll call that my last long run till the race so I don't re-injure/injure anything. It's been 5 weeks since my previous long run of 12 miles and my stress fracture.

Congrats! Did you start off with shorter runs or with a long run? I've been off running for a few weeks. Started aqua jogging this week.

Earlier in the week I started off with short runs to test the foot. The IT band is tight, because I've got a little knee pain, but that's not much compared to a sfx.

Biggest weekend for me yet and I'm stoked because it means my taper has started! Set out for a 100 miler on Friday but a few wrong turns apparently added 15 extra miles so 115 it was. Followed it with a sub 3:30 marathon on Saturday. Not my PR but first time I successfully ran negative splits. Gorgeous day for running. Toying with another century on Wed, do you think it's too close? Would it be beneficial at this point?

Hey all, few months ago I borrowed an xterra full sleeve wetsuit for IMFL, probably 3-4yrs old, seemed perfect when I borrowed it.

Have used for 2 openwater ocean 2.8mile training swims over the last couple of weeks, cleaned inside & out with freshwater each time & hung to dry.

Noticed when I cleaned last time that neoprene has cracked at the front of both armpits (

Is this a common wetsuit problem? what is the fair value of a wetsuit of this age.

I had planned to use for another 4 training swims, but worry its gonna fall apart.

Gonna talk with the owner tomorrow.

Wondering do I need a full sleeve for IMFL or will a sleeveless suffice (hear the water is warmer this year)?

Also is there likely to be wetsuit retailers at the expo, really not interested in a premium suit - what are the best value brands?

Am I crazy thinking of buying a suit on Wed 4th for use in IMFL - would use for training swims on Thurs & Fri.

If your taper has started then an additional 100 mile ride on wednesday could be a bit much.  I would just stick to your training plan assuming you have one.   But if I were you I'd take it easy after that successfull weekend

Xterra has wetsuit sale almost always for 50%....so inexpensive options..they don't last as much as other suits but less expensive option.

Vendors at IMs are really limited now that IM controls almost all the the merchandise sold so you will pay full price and have limited selection.

If you need a new wetsuit if it were me I'd get it sooner than 3 days before my IM.

Wetsuits can be fixed with rips and tears. Do you have a tri store near you? Maybe bring suit there and get some advice if it can be repaired and maybe try on some sale suits to buy one if needed.

I got my plan for next week from my coach..my run taper has begun....bike taper starts following week and swim the last week. Still have 18 hours of training this upcoming week even though run is  starting to be cut back.

Finally decided what to wear. My lists are coming along. Found a cheap bike vest for $10 on line I can have in case it's cold at start of bike.

Looked at weather underground and typical weather is low of 50 and high of 72-75 for November 6th.

No training for me this weekend as my cold is now the beginnings of bronchitis. I did get to see my dr sat and am on antibiotics, etc. REALLY disappointed as this means I missed my last big weekend of training, but there really wasn't anything I could do but rest. I might try and get in some bigger stuff this week and then I am planning a 3 mile open water swim on sat. We'll see. Hoping I get well ASAP!

Rode the first 60 of the course yesterday AFTER doing the White Sands Sprint with Team Pro Jessica Jacob @ avg 22mph (cooked after 60, she kept going...lol)
Crazy headwind on 79 & 20 heading out, then road on 388. Ride the white line for some smooth surface. Quit at the turn around at 388 & 231.
Looked like 20 on the return was nice but has most of the hills (small rolling) but 20 & 79 on the return "should" have a good tailwind.
Front Beach has all the eye candy, rest of the ride is counrty borning!!

On Saturday, my primary training partner was in a bike accident.  A car backed out of a driveway in front of him, and he went over the bars.  Broken collar bone and shattered elbow.  They had to do surgery on the elbow.

Bob is a TNT coach, racing since the 80's, he has raised a lot of money for charities over the years, has completed more races than he can count, BQ'd before his knees went bad, and IMFL was going to be his 5th IM.  He was raising money through the Janus Charity Challenge for FL.  He is the person who convinced me that I'm ready for an IM.

Please keep your thoughts with him as he recovers.  He is supposed to go home from the hospital today.

Had my last big training weekend. Saturday was a long bike ride, although not as long as I had wanted. My Garmin decided half-way through the planned 112 mile route that it wanted to go a different way - and a more hilly route at that!. It ended up sending me in the opposite direction and I didn't realise until I was miles from where I should have been. Eventually managed to meet up with my support crew (Dad), although he got lost trying to find me! Bit of a disaster really, although I did do nearly 100 miles with the added bonus of 4000ft of climbing!!!

Sunday was a 15 mile run - my longest run so far - although it was a bit of a suffer-fest. Having a few issue with my knee. More lack of strength/core than actual knee problems. I struggled through it and was happy with what I did.

So now it's taper time.....and today I've come down with a cold!! Guess it's better to get it now than in 3 weeks time.

Your friend will be in my thoughts.  That almost happened to me last week on my long brick.  Some drivers are just not aware of us cyclists.
