Well, another run today. I am not sure where I am going with all the running but at this rate, it could be my biggest month ever(or a week of Darren's running Smile)

Gotta start biking sooner then later. I am tired of getting passed on the bike and run

My kids went to a swim club tryout the past couple of days. Both can go in. We are registering my 5yr old daughter for sure and we will wait on my son's hockey schedule to see if it will work out. It is only 2 days a week for these intro type swim club lessons. Me and my wife swam a few laps while watching the kids.(collided once-her fault of course...Foot in mouthhope she doesn't see this post)

It hurts me to see everyone talking about beer...my fridge is empty except for one 8% high test black label crap beer my FIL left behind and no beer purchases in Sept.

Darren, I may be in your neck of the woods Oct. 18/19. My wife has a fitness course at the U of C the 19. We would probably head up after work Thursday.

Cheers everyone!

I got in my swim and run this morning, though I cut the run to a 3.5 miler.  My knee hardly barked at all, and I think as long as I go short and slow for a while, and then slowly build the run fitness up, I should be good.  The plan called for 8 miles today, and I went 3.  Oh well.

New monthly goals.  I will bike and run full speed ahead, and improve on both.  I will recover knee while running drastically less then the plan calls for, until I can get back after it again.  Hoping that I can work my way into 5-8 mile runs by the end of the month.  This is an epiphany of sorts for me.  My typical fall the last 2 years since starting marathon training had looked like taking 3-4 mo.'s off after training to a good level of fitness.  during months off, I got slothfull and ate what I saw, and saw what I ate.  It was a viscious cycle.  Now, though I'm hobbled of sorts, I will still be working the other 2 disciplines, while slowly building back to a running fitness.

Yeah, there is definitely a letdown after the race season. I too am trying to go the opposite way. I think the offseason is when we should be shooting for our weight goals. That way we can continue to get the proper fuel to train hard for the races.

Make sure you slow down if that knee starts bugging you. You have all winter to hit your goals.

Have you found yourself a cycle trainer yet? I picked up a cycleops fluid trainer used for $80...sweet deal!

This is a sweet deal.

I've let a few slip away on craigslist.  A Cycle trainier is in my "wants" category, but do not think I'll have the funds to purchase till next year.  I always have the spin bike at the Y to keep me going.  It is not ideal, and I will not get as good of a workout, but it's there.

I gotta say i felt pretty rough the past 5 days. But I got a plan now and things are good.

I love the off season, no races to stress about. Can get all my workouts done early. I had a long 4 weeks with three races and I am glad it is over. Never doing that again.

So just going to chill, work on starting to love the roads again. I made my bike goal for the year but weather is still good so still going strong until I can't. Looking forward to leaving the hills behind on the run. I mean I love those mothers but I spent the whole year in the hills and glad I can say bye to them for at least 6 months.

I just finished a workout in the pool.  My shouldiers are slightly sore but they don't hurt.  So, I'm proud to report that for the first time in almost 3 weeks, I actually thought to myself as I got out of the pool, "I'm gonna do it."  No, Thor, I wasn't thinking about drinking a molsen... I just felt like I had it in me to finish the HIM.  For weeks now, I've worried about getting pulled from the course because of the time limits - but I just swam the same distance as the course and if I keep that pace during the race, I will have 13 minutes to spare.  Phew.  Now if I can make it through the next 10 days without injuring myself, I should be set.

I even sat down and tried to figure out a time goal... So I did an OLY in 3:00:00.  If I do the swim in 2:25/100 = 45.30, and the bike 15mph/56 = 3:45:00, and finish up with a 14 minute per mile HM = 7:37:00.  (Does this sound right to you?)

No Coors Light for me!

Quick checkin before bed... Gonna try biking into work tomorrow.  I'm wondering if going long on the bike before my long run will make a difference.  We'll see.  The ice and advil seem to be having an effect on the soreness... Gotta remind myself to go slow...

Hope everyone is well!

THe ride to work was awesome.  Not only did I get to see the sun ride - but it's that time of year when the air is crisp but its not too cold.  Unfortunately - the ride home was about 5 miles too long and I could feel my left hip getting sore.  I thought about stopping and having my wife come pick me up, but the idea of drinking coors light didn't really appeal to me.  So, I finished and spent extra time stretching but it still hurts tonight.  Tomorrow, I'm gonna swim in the morning and then I might postpone my long run for a day.  We shall see.

My reward for the ride -

1) Post Road Pumpkin Ale by Brooklyn Brewery - really good.  Not too malty.  While the pumpkin was good - it was understated and I like that...

2) My friend's IPA - One of the best beers I have ever had.  Simply amazing!  Did I mention that we used 4x the normal amount of hops!

Smart move by going by the feel of the hip.  See how it feels in the morning.

1)Sounds delightful

2)sounds heavenly.  My favorite brew I've ever imbibed in was my buddies Imperial IPA.  I know what you speak of by being thrilled with a good home brew.

My rewards for taking the kids next door to take care of the neighboors house and plants, a nice refreshing buttwiper out of neighboor Gary's fridge.  Times have been rough around here of late.

It took me a while to realize that you were talking about Bud... wow, rough is the right wood.  My friend and I are planning to brew this weekend - get in your car - you should be here just in time!

It has been windy and chilly here. Frost warning yesterday, so being a sissy, I have not been on my bike. Gotta get the cycle trainer going!

I have been burned to many times with fruits and vegetables in beer but I am all for your friends IPA!

I guess I will bring it up...your hip, your race coming up. I honestly don't think you are going to be prepared for the HIM based on your current or projected training. I am not sure if you can roll your entry over to one in the spring or just do the Oly. While you could complete the HIM, I don't think it would very much fun(maybe "fun" isn't the right word to useLaughing)

I agree with everything you wrote in your post.  Yes, I need to be training more.  Yes, I'm not 100%.  And yes, the run will suck.  But I think I need to do this race.

My whole life, I've been dreaming big but never following through.  I've pledged to get fit dozens of time in the the last 20 years.   I've signed up for races but haven't finished the training and never showed up at the starting line.  I'm done with being that guy.  So, I decided to challenge myself thinking that my century training would be enough.  Clearly I was wrong.  But I'm not going to quit.  I'm gonna see how tough I can be.  And perhaps I will learn to temper my enthusiasm and learn the value of training and patience.  Plus, think of how good the beer will taste after going 70.3...

Glad to hear you are moving forward again and I'm hoping that you are starting to see more good than bad in your last race.  You've earned the right to run on flat roads for the rest of the year.  Nice and slow.  Congrats on making your bike goal for the year.  Impressive.

Dude that is totally the spirit. I think the run is going to suck more than you can possibly imagine right now. Ha. It will taste good, win, lose or draw....I have learned that much in the last week.

For some of us the first time through is for learning and for the experience, and to see what we really want.

Hi! I hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm Kate and was in a group with Thor, David and Kevin that died so Thor suggested I join in here. Just had to say Good Luck David! I hope you have a great race! I've been thinking about putting a half marathon on my calendar to work up to. Or just gutting one out. I have my last tri next weekend a sprint and have not been on my road bike in over a month. I'd try and remedy it this weekend, but we're going to the mountains to squeeze in some more mountain biking before the snow covers the trails.

Damn glad you joined (rejoined) us.  The only new guy is our leader - Darren.  He doesn't like to run very much (check out his logs and you'll see the joke).

Thank for the kind words about the HIM but more importantly, good luck to you in your tri.  Kick some but and enjoy getting to know that bike again.

Now for the important question - what's your favorite beer?

Ha ha!  After living in Ireland I have to say I'm a big Guinness fan.  I really like stouts.  IPAs are pretty good too though.  Although, in the summer while I enjoy Corona on occasion I am more of a mixed drink person (G & Ts).  So, I guess it's the right season for me to join as I'm moving into beer drinking season.

Good to have you on board! You should be able to do the sprint in your sleep. Where is it? Could be a chilly morning in Colorado!?!

It's at Union Reservoir- only about 5miles from my house (since I hate getting up early.)  The water was nice there Tuesday night- but the mornings are a LOT colder than the evenings.  I'm a little worried about shivering too much and falling off my bike in a wet tri suit.  How long does the pain last for in a wet tri suit?  I can deal with the swim in the wetsuit- my old coach always yelled- If you're cold it means you're not swimming fast enough.  So, I'll smoke the swim if it's cold and then have nothing left Smile

Moonrocket - 2012-09-13 9:08 PM Hi! I'd try and remedy it this weekend, but we're going to the mountains to squeeze in some more mountain biking before the snow covers the trails.
wow, great to have you. I love imports.....and domestics actually, really all beer. Oh wait..... Which half are you thinking of.

Thank you for letting me join!  I'm a little scared of all of you super endurance types- Your 100 mile run race report was amazing!  I can't imagine what it takes to keep moving forward for 32 hours.  That's twice as long as I like to go without sleep - never mind racing the whole time.

Not coors lite, not coors lite, not coors lite....Smile

Good answer The only answer that would have kept you out of the group would have been Molson... Oh wait... We let Thor , that Molson guzzling, hockey loving, tuke wearing Canadian in...but Guinness and ipa's are big hits here. You will fit in just fine.

I should have mentioned this in the previous post to Kate - but at least for me - Beer is the master motivator.  I will do just about anything in order to drink good beer and just about anything (including running a sub 3 hour OLY) to avoid drinking coors lite.  To prove my point...

For the past month, I've been staring at the $$$ I earned from winning the Weight Loss Challenge - looking forward to reaching 175 pounds so I could use it to buy really good beer.  This morning, I weighed in and was friggin pumped to see 174.2 staring back at me.  That makes 88.6 since last November.  So I plan on heading out to the beer store this weekend and buy 6 really good beers.  I'm gonna enjoy a bottle to celebrate making my goal and then I'll enjoy one for every pound I lose on my way to my goal of 170.  Hope to get there by Thanksgiving...

Not feeling well today.  Coming down with a massive cold.  I plan on going to bed early tonight and will get in my long run tomorrow.  Finally - guess what I will also be doing tomorrow?  For christmas - my wife bought me a NASCAR driving experience.  I'm gonna get to drive 12 laps around the track as fast as they will let me.  Should be a good time.  I wonder if there is a brewery I can hit on the way home???

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

Agreed on all fronts.  You will learn valuable lessons about yourself, either way.

The beer is sweet after a HIM.  I will confirm this.  So is the euphoria of just smashing such a goal.  You walk around with a natural "high" for a good week.

Proud of you.  Your a weight loss machine and a pillar of consistency.

Congrats on the NASCAR.

No plans on this homefront, Probably watch the Redskins get another W and here about the browns taking on another L.
