County will be closing two libraries in January unless they decide to give us more money.  since the commissioners are threatening to cut police and fire I don't think the county residents are going to complain about the library closing if they can get them to not cut the police and fire.  Oh, well.  How can you compete?

Oh, and we have no idea which two branches they are talking about and what staff, because it won't necessarily be the staff from those branches.  The staff will be weaned out throughout the system, so anyone could go.  We won't know until end of Dec, beginning of January.

There is a heat advisory in Western Washington this morning.  We will be experiencing some of the hottest temperatures of the year in the coming week.  It may even reach 90* F!!!

Yeah, it's not cool, but I'm not going to let it stress me unless the Director does not include me on the Theatre tickets that we have done together for the past 3 years.  Cause then it might mean something.

What Would Nibbs Do? (WWND?)

I posted this in COJ too. Yeah, I know. One needs to be careful when asking BT (especially COJ) what to do, but I'm so confused that my head is going to explode....

I was just offered a new job.

On the plus side:
- Hours are better.
- Workload is lighter.
- Area is nicer. (There's more to do in the nearby than where I live now.)
- Management seems less "dysfunctional."
- The job was created just for me, so they apparently want me. (Just wait till they get to know me. LOL!)

On the minus side:
- It's in another state, so I need to relocate.
- Pay is lower. (About 18% less!)
- I become the "junior" member of the department. (I don't think layoffs will be an issue. But if they ever occur, I'll be the first let go.)
- I only have 2 1/2 weeks to make the move.

So What Would Nibbs Do?

The 18% pay cut and relocation to an unknown area are the problems. (I think the cost of living is a little less, but I'm still investigating that.)

Any insights or comments? Questions I should ask myself?

Thanks!

WOW, Deester!  That's a lot on the mind!

How upset are you with your current job?
Do you enjoy the current area (still)?
Is there negotiation potential with the current job regarding job duties/work time/etc.?
Do you have job security with current job?
What is potential job growth with the current job?
Are the cost benefits better in the long run with the new job?
Is there a significant "make or break" here (obviously it's not pay)?

Making 18% less but getting a significant raise guaranteed every X months through pay raise, incentives, bonuses, etc. would be worth considering, however, in this economy right now, that's a huge risk to take.

Tread lighthly with this, Dee.
