Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So your goal was 2:45 and you pulled off 2:47 in 90+ degree heat and this isn't a victory because..........? You're too hard on yourself. That's a great time in that heat. Heat like that crushes the pros never mind weekend warriors like us. Great job. |

No doubt that you can never trust the weather people. I'm due to catch a break on the weather for a race. The last 4 have consisted of a 67 degree day in March which while normally not bad for a HM in March you're not quite ready for that temp. A 93 degree day that was humid as he!! for an Olympic. Another Olympic that was 85 and really humid and a 55 degree Olympic where it poured.

Headed out Saturday morning got 13.1 miles into the ride headed down the Keene descent and and had a front wheel blow out at 30 mph. After a huge wreck I visited the LP ER and ended up with 9 stitches in my hand, alot of road rash and a severely brusied hip. No swimming for a week the doctor said. I as able to do 1 hr on the trainer after the crash just to keep my hip moblie. Taking today off and hopefully will be back at something tomorrow. Ouch! I'm glad you're OK relatively speaking and hope you heal up quick. |

So run down on my race. Swim course felt long. Even guys who swam collegiately were swimming mid to high 1:30s. So I don't feel so bad about that and my HR was OK coming out of the water. Bike was awesome. 24mph and I kept my HR in check. Then I made a boo boo. Left my Garmin on the bike as I rushed to get out of T2. Ran by feel instead of by numbers and I pulled back too much. Ran a 7:48/mile split when I should have been running 7:10s. Dumb. Oh well. Fun race. May try the duathlon next year if I feel like racing at all after IMTX. |

I also think when you come within 2 minutes of a time goal you've set, then you're setting realistic goals. That's a good sign. I hope to do better at the next one in 3 weeks. Improvement is great! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Gang, Mentally been out of it. Kind of having an awful month with training. Anyway: Jeremy, sorry man. Glad you are ok. As Kelly said, better off resting now. Carrie - Sorry to hear that as well. We all know what it's like to have lingering injuries. They suck. take the time to let heal properly Scott - 24mph??? That's freaking crazy. And very impressive. Congrats on 8th Jen - We all told you that you would have a great race. See, not having Air Conditrion in your house allowed you to perform well in the heat!! ha ha. Congrats on a 2:47. Nice work. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() On another note, if you are bored, I made a 5 min slide show. (damn youtube blocked it on mobile devices only due to copyright on the song, stupid) My two boys did the Super Kids Tri at Univ of Rhode Island yesterday. this was my 8 year olds second time, and i signed up my 4 year old last second (who is a nut on the bike). Cole (8 yr old) finished 6th out of 27 boys in his AG, and Brayden (4 year old), he actually ran the 1/2 mile portion of the race non stop and did so well at the bike as well. He needed a little help with the pool, but they let them wear flotation devices. Scott, don't they let you wear flotation devices at IMTX??? ha ha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Cdyhf28-8&feature=plcp

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carrie639 - 2012-06-10 10:52 PM Hey there everyone ... I know I have been out of touch for the last month and I wanted to apologize to everyone. Long story short, I have been out of work for several months and the hunt is hard and frustrating. To add to that stress, I finally got real with myself last weekend and it was determined that I have a stress fracture in the 4th metatarsal of my right foot. What most don't know (actually pretty much everyone until about a week ago, although Kelly knew something was going on early May) was that I have been running on this stress fracture since last November. How you say? Very painfully. I never really hurt when I run, but was horribly painful right after and for the rest of the day. Why did I continue? I was performing very well since I started working with Kelly and didn't want to derail that. Stupid? Maybe, but I did have a really good first part of my season. I PR's every race I set out to PR, some with significant improvements ... yes, at a cost. What this means is I am not running for another 5-7 weeks, which since I am focusing on running, is very hard! I am frustrated about the injury itself, but also because I have races paid for, and especially since the Chicago Marathon is likely not going to happen. I will evaluate with Kelly in July and we will see what the rest of the year holds. So I wanted to let you all know what was going on. I am not normally a person that reaches out. I am pretty quiet about most everything and keep most things to myself. So this has been a very rough time. On a positive note ... I have been stalking the group and keeping up with everyone. So hope races went well this weekend (Scott more OW practice), Michelle I would've walked home, I saw a crash ... hoping for a quick recovery.
Carrie, I have been missing you!! I am so sorry to hear about the stress fracture! Take the time to recover! There are plenty of PR's for you left to get....but you need to heal. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jarvy01 - 2012-06-11 7:49 AM I had a blast this weekend in MI. Finish time was 2:47 for a course that measured long in every discipline (was shooting for 2:45). 4th in AG. I followed my race plan 100%, and it paid off. I'm most proud of the swim (averaged 1:35/100, a first for me). I started to have a panic attack in my wetsuit, but I just focused on breathing, and then I pictured myself swimming in a pool. It seemed to do the trick. Bike course was ok. I should have pushed harder in the very beginning, and the headwinds got the best of me in the second half of the race. My first transition sucked again. It was about a .25 mile to get there, so the only thing I can think of is that I wasn't running hard enough. My run was decent for me (but sucks in the general sense, I guess). It was a hilly run, and I really tried to focus on keeping my feet under me instead of in front of me. It was HOT. 90+ degrees. Didn't bother me for a second, but the half people were struggling. Monster sunburn here on the face, shoulders, and back. It's still painful this morning. Things for me to work on: sighting in OW, more time in aero, and running, running, and more running (ew
So happy for you!!! Congratulations!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was up early for a swim, and then I have to squeeze in a bike later. I'm still struggling with a head cold (2 of my kids are sick as well) and muscle soreness from the race, so it was a total PITA to do the speed sets. I just didn't have the energy to go as fast as I would have liked, and I couldn't breathe out of my nostrils. LOL Anyway, I got it done. It ended up being a HTFU workout. Anyone know when Eagleman registration opens up? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jarvy01 - 2012-06-12 7:20 AM Jen, with all of my major sinus issues, I see a specialist/surgeon at Yale. She has been voted best doctor in the country for her specialty numerous times. They are finding more and more people that are swimming Open Water, specifically triathletes, coming in with specific sinus infections related to water. She actually takes a culture of your mucus in nose and has it tested every time I see her, so that she knows exactly what drug the bacteria is sensitive to, whereas most doctors will give you a ZPac and hope it works. Last year after a Tri, I also developed a sinus infection, and based on the results, the bacteria was only related specifically to open water. It doesn't come from anywhere else. You should request a culture from your doctor. Anyway, she and a team are looking into a possible study of triathletes and sinus infections related to open water. Should be interesting. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Masters swim this morning. I feel like I'm making progress. We did 2 X 100 in the middle of the main set (which had lots of 200's and sprint kicks - yuck) and I did both in 1:43 in a meter pool. That calculates to about 1:34 for 100 yards. I realize it was only two, and slow by most peoples standards, plus I had a break in between, but...that's super speedy for me and I was pretty excited. In other news, I had a lane to myself up until the middle of the main set. A guy showed up late and the coach had him jump in my lane. Which was fine, he was a good lane mate. But it was funny because watching him at first he looked sooooo slow. Very casual movements, little to no splash. As we started to circle swim I realized he was FAST! He lapped me on the 200's every time. And when I did the 2 X 100, where I was swimming super fast for me, he was still faster. I wish I was naturally fast at swimming... |
