Afternoon, TAN!

My thoughts on today's topics (at least some of them):

1) My asthma has been really bad lately, too. Maybe it's because of the season changing and the different pollen in the air.

2) I love XKCD! Not so much for meeting parents.

3) Mmm....beer. I'm a big fan of stouts, but right now it's pumpkin beer season. The Harvest Moon beer, not so good even if you like Blue Moon.

x2 on the stouts, and on being disappointed in Harvest Moon. Have you ever tried Young's Double Chocolate Stout?

Oh yes.  It is delicious!  One of my favorites.  I also really like Rogue's Mocha Porter.  A little lighter, but really good.

lvthgme - 2007-09-24 4:00 PM Random beer thought - I tried that uh...Whatever brand "Chill" and I liked it.

GAAAA. No, you are not supposed to like that.

Do you remember the "Man Law" commercials. Well, one of the man laws was to never put fruit in beer. So what's Miller go and do? They put it in for you.

Blah, I don't like it.

Sam Adams did (and might still do) a cherry wheat one. THAT was unfortunate.

BTW, Scout would LOVE Trader Joe's. Microbrew Heaven. I bought some beer from Chicago called this:

I have never heard of that brew! And I've lived here for over 10 years. Anyone know where it is made?

http://www.gooseisland.com/AgePage.asp?URLPage=/index.asp

Ahhh, that's why. I'm not a big Goose Island fan.

I haven't had it yet, but beer is CHEAP at Trader Joe's. $4.99 for nearly all of the different microbrew 6 packs. I love stouts, so we'll see how it is. If I can see THROUGH the beer, its not dark enough, as far as I'm concerned.

The Blonde is more into wine, and they had good prices on that as well. We both like sweet wines, so maybe one night she'll 'shoot up' (her term for taking insulin) and we'll kill a bottle and swing from the ceiling fan, or something like that.

Do you mean sweet like Sauternes, or are you talking about something like Zinfandel?

Bad pumpkin beer experience...

I was in Houston with some colleagues on business last year and these two heavy weight drinkers and I decide to go to the Fox and Hound for a few drinks.  After about 3 rounds into it we decided it would be a good idea if we each took a row of taps at the bar (there were three with each row consist of about 10 or 12 beers) and drank one of each from the row.  Needless to say that was a bad idea.

Anyway, I got towards the end after a beer that was quite strong (much higher than normal alc. content) and the server brought me a pumpkin beer.  After all those beer, the pumpkin one almost made me lose all the others.

Well our beer drinking antics did amuse the bartender and server.  Didn't feel so great in our training class the next day.

I'm still trying to decide what kind of beer to have for the post CIM party (which will probably be at my place). I could get a keg, but I'm also thinking of maybe just buying a few cases of bottled microbrews (although that would be more expensive). What do you think, since you'll likely be in charge of the beer tap?

I'd go with the microbrews. If it's cost that's driving the decision, I'd be happy to pitch in.

No idea. I've never been much of a drinker, it'll take me a couple of weeks to get through that six pack (its in the Blonde's fridge). The first time I got really wasted was on iced down Boone's Farm wine... I *still* like the taste of that stuff. I'd probably be happy if they'd come up with a wine that tastes like orange soda. Then again, I just dump some vodka in a can of Sunkist and I'm ready to go Tongue out

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and pretend you meant Sauternes. And I'm going to ignore the comment about orange soda-flavored wine. (HERESY!)

I'm also spoiled because I have one of the best small micro brews in the country all of 2 minute stumble walk from my house.

Mmmm..... nothing like a good glass of wine after a long day, though.  Fallen in love with South American wines lately.  Carmenere.  YUM!

Went last year to Napa with my wife and a couple we are really good friends with.  Did sort of our own self guided tour to some of the places we wanted to see and then did one of those bus tours the next day.  Let just say our own tour blew the bus one out of the water.  Anyway, the bus takes us to one bad place after another... until we reached the pinnacle of our tour when the guy behind the bar at one stop actually described the wine tast as a 'watermelon Jolly Rancher'.  Yeah... ummm... NO!

Okay, yeah, that's pretty awful. There are some good wineries and some great ones, but there are also some really bad ones. Glad your experience in Napa wasn't limited to the bus tour!

Yeah... me, too!!  On our own tour, we really liked Trefethen, Cakebread, Duckhorn and Jarvis the most.  There are so many out there but your palate kind of loses its senses after more than a couple days of tasting.  We are talking about taking another trip out to continue our tour.

Cakebread is GREAT. I don't think I've tried the others. If you have time on your next trip, Opus One, Silver Oak, and Chateau Montelena are all excellent. (Chateau Montelena was one of the wines in the 1976 "Judgment of Paris" tasting that put California wines on the map. So was Stag's Leap, but I don't think they're open to the public.)
