Haha. I did it Thursday night, it was our two year anniversary. I basically recreated our first date with the restaurant then walking along the water in fells point in Baltimore and out on a pier, which is where we first kissed. I did it out on the pier.

So I hit a milestone today - rode my longest ride ever 35 miles!!! It took me 2 hours and 22 minutes.  The way out I was flying, averaging about 19 mph - It felt awesome. I should of known it was due to a strong tail wind! Way back was much tougher and only averaged about 11 mph. But it was a great ride and it makes me feel "legit" in my regards to being a triathlete. Can't wait to break this record!

Joe- Congrats to you both! That's great!

Jonathan- You're too funny My brother is getting married in Sept, and he has been dating his GF for longer than I've known my husband (8 years). So we joke that his is the longest engagement ever.

I had to dig soo deep for this race.  I'm very proud of myself and actually surprised by how well my body delivered.

Miles 40-56 on the bike was a very dark time.  I hammered until then.  The second loop of the run was where I had to dig very deep again.  As soon as I can, I'll write up and share my RR.

I had my PT HRM for the bike so I could record HR then, and I used my Timex to record HR on the run so I had to swap straps.

Nice race with a good swim.  Sounds like you have been sneaking in some quality training with all your work hours.

My race is done today.  I think I performed really well but I don't have any info other than what my Garmin gave me.  I waited for an hour after I finished and still no results, so I am playing a limited amount of patience game right now.

I have no idea about my swim time and that kind of bothers me.  I have heard a rumor (although I think that is all it is) that some of the chips weren't working.  IF THAT IS THE CASE I WILL BE RATHER BENT!  the bike, according to Garmin, was a 20.5 mph avg.  I laid the hammer down for almost the entire ride.  The only places I didn't were where the road was just to rough for me to handle it.  The run was slightly under my targeted pace of 7:30 with the final Garmin verdict at 7:32.  I ran as hard as I could and it caused me some issues with my left quad but I was able to finish strong......and very happy.  But more on that in the RR later, when I get my complete stats.

RR is up.  I was somewhat pleased by my overall results.  If I had my wetsuit with me I would have moved up at least 15 places but it wasn't to be.  I know I did well, especially on the bike, but it is really the swim that I am having trouble settling up with.

Enjoy the read

Edit: What I enjoyed most about this race was the family participation that came to support me.  I had all of my family there to literally yelling at me and coaching me through the whole race.  My oldest daughter was giving me some signals to get long through the swim leg (they could walk the whole course next to the canal).  Her signals helped me remember to try to stick to my form even though I was tired.  My girls made special shirts up to wear for the race that were pretty funny and showed support for me.  I will post pics when I get home and can remember how to do it.  It was nice to know they enjoyed being there with me.

So we've got a problem.  We did the HIM course for Timberman yesterday.  swim is great, nice and clear cool water, bike is fine, some big hills, but overall nice course.  My problem is that every time I have a long hard workout I end up with a headache.  Yesterday, I got off the bike and had a slight headache, then after about 1.5 miles, it was worse.  I got a bad cramp in both sides of my stomach, sort of external oblique area and it would go away.  I could run no faster than a 10 minute mile without hunching over in pain.  They are still sore today.  Is this classic dehydration or what?  I drank 2.5 bottles of infinit and a bottle of water on the bike and three 6 oz bottles of water from my belt on the run.  I only made it 6.2 miles of the run.  I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the run portion due to this.

Awesome race Carl.

Your timex watch isn't ANT+?  I use my timex HRM to communicate to my Garmin 500 and my timex watch at the same time.

So just when I thought I started to like climbing hills...my Saturday group ride introduced me to Satan himself.

The whole ride, I had no idea we were going to climb 2 new ridges (hill is an understatement) near the end of our ride.  The first climb was about 2 miles long, 9.11% average grade with a max grade of 18%, and 1085 total feet of climbing.
The second climb was a little uner 3 miles long, 8.14% average grade with a max of 18%, and 1220 total feet of climbing.  What made things even tougher was the 15-25 mph winds that were in our face on both climbs.

I told my coworker about this ride and he didn't believe me.  He said his wife's good friend lives at the top of one of those ridges and he has a hard tim DRIVING up those hills.  Literally his van can barely make it up there.

I was pretty ticked off though because my garmin 500 inexplicably deleted the entire ride from it's memory.  So I have no power data which would have been awesome to review.  I suppose that means I'll have to do the ride again to see the data.

Well, I had called her mom to ask if she'd have time to talk with me (her dad's not really in the picture a whole lot, I've never met him) and asked her not to tell Lindsay (my fiance).  Well, after getting the message, she immediate called Lindsay and said "I don't want this to be a surprise, but Joe just called and asked to talk to me".  UGH!  So yeah, Lindsay knew why I had called her mom.  With our anniversary that week, and me making sort of a big deal about it, she had guessed that that was where I was planning.  However, I did save myself a little, because she was in DC all day Thursday, and said she might be late, so I said we could reschedule for Friday so she wouldn't be stressed or worried (I didn't want her upset for being late or anything like that for the dinner/night so I thought that Friday would be OK to make sure everything went smooth).  She took that as me not planning anything special for Thursday and not proposing...but she made it back in plenty of time, so everything went down thursday as planned, and she was slightly surprised.  She did get about 10 seconds notice she told me afterwards, when i started shaking with nerves right before I asked.

Haha, then she said she got really nervous thinking "oh my god, what do I say?  Of course? No, don't say that, that sounds dumb, say something better!"  Her exact answer was "awwww...." me- "well?" her - "of course".

Sure...I'll try to upload some routes from my garmin into training peaks.  From there I can send you a link and you should be able to see the mapping data.

I don't know anything about the Garmin 500 but I have "lost" training sessions and later found them in the multi sport section of the log.  It hasn't happened but a couple of times but I freak out when it does.  What I don't like about it is that I can't put the workouts where they need to go after I do figure out where they are.
