Mitch,

Great job! Of the first 6 miles, your fastest mile was only 17 seconds faster than your slowest. Compare that to last year. Bet it feels great.

Gabe,

Yes it was a PR, by 2 minutes and 9 seconds. But I haven't done a 10k in a year and my previous 10k PR was a minute slower than what the McMillan calculator predicts from my 5k and half marathon PR's. This new 10k PR lowers my predicted time for all other distances to significantly below my actual PR's for those distances.

A spectacular day for the gang! I just did the local Turkey Trot (8 miler) and ran it 2 minutes (exactly) better than last year, so I'm pretty happy. A PR for myself too at the distance (57'46") or 7:13/mile, but the course is actually too long by 0.15 so the Garmin registered and average 7:06/mi.

Also, I want to tell you all that I feel thankful for you being a part of the group in this Thanksgiving day. Everyone of you has made me proud!

Congratulations to all of you, it feels great to be in a group of successful, dedicated folks.

X2, big congratulations on a very good day for you guys!

Also, totally agree with you Ernesto about the Nov. challenge, its turning out to be a fun, productive experience!  We are

learning more about ourselves and we can see the benefits from frequency of the workouts!  We should extend the challenge until at least May 19th, that way I can count with the support from the group for my IM Texas training Smile)

Chris,

You have huge improvement potential, especially on the bike and swim. Like I've always said, you will be an amazing triathlete if you start putting long rides to expand your base for that sport, also joining a swim team. But I know that this will take time, which is what we have because this is a lifetime sport.

Congrats on your PR, that's actually faster than my best 10K.

Joker! No way I'll go past November 30th working out every day. I like my Fridays off...

I'll go cheer my rear off in May though, but you'll be doing all the work in the heat! Laughing

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, competitive freaks (Wink)!

Among many things, I am grateful for this group and my ability to do all those SBR things in this ripe old age. Ernesto, you are at the helm here and steering in good direction. Please keep the course and don't abandon the ship!

And now off to the car mechanic to pick up my car after the regular service. It is 27C (not bad) and I'm running again today...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and congratulations on the PRs.  I too PR'ed today because it was 5 miles.  But if it were a 10K and I kept the same pace, it would have definitely been a PR there too.  Race report is up.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I am proud and humbled to be a part of such dedicated triers.

Mitch, I would vote for you for most improved.  I have definitely noticed a big change in you since you first joined this forum.  Keep up the good work.

I appreciate the kind words and you are right - it comes down to consistency.  I need to carry the consistency I am building into my running into my cycling (should be easier for me) and swimming (more difficult).  Time will tell.  I do think my life settling down (which it has in the last few months) will enable me to focus and use the training as a consistent outlet.

Trying to find time today for a nice recovery run to get rid of some of the aches from yesterday's effort.

I agree with Mitch. Great race Jackie.

So let's recap, Ernesto, Mitch, me, and Jackie all had Thanksgiving races and we all PR'd? Gosh, what do we all have in common? Oooh, oooh, I know! We've all been consistently training. Very cool.

As for the effect of this contest on the amount of training, at least for me, it hasn't caused me to train much more than I had planned on training (a little more but not much more). But it has caused to me to ACTUALLY DO the training I had planned on doing. For instance, this morning I kind of feel like crap. My hams are a bit sore, but mostly it's because I ate and drank too much last night. I don't want to get on the trainer. But I am about to go do that now, because I don't want Mark and Gabe to get too far ahead. This workout would be on my schedule regardless of the contest, but my actually doing it is because of the contest.

Jackie, congrats also on your PR!  Seems like almost everyone got a PR in the last couple of days so the challenge must be having a positive impact on everyone's fitness levels!

Also Barry, I think so far you win the prize for the most outrageous workout due to this challenge by waking up at 3:30am to get your run in!

Today I was not able to get myself up to run in the morning, but was able to get a run in at lunch time: 6.47 Mi, 58:47
