Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I saw the news clip (as did a bunch of my friends who texted me about it.) I'm pretty convinced that my time is all buggered up. I'm going to go down to the shop today and try to get them to eliminate my time. Something went wrong with their timing. I was right around 30 minutes, give or take a few seconds. That would put me 15 seconds off my record time from last year. No worries. I did great considering I haven't been doing any tough sessions! Look out October Time Trial! BTW.....I've been looking for the news clip online but I can't find it. I might have to email the sports guy. |

I did manage a 2hr ride on the trainer though and may try to add an hour tomorrow (my rest day). Needless to say, my sit bones are sore after 2 hrs on the trainer! I think another ride would provide benefits but make it one of Jorge's intensity work outs. Just pick one of the ones you aren't planning to complete this week and go for it. The sit bones seem to be the worst on the trainer. I can ride far longer outside than on the drainer. Sometimes I am ready fro the weather to break around here sooner rather than later because I want to ride outside. Then another part of me enjoys the intense focus the trainer invites and the fitness gains that come with the focus. I do have to say that I don't miss the wind AT ALL while riding on the trainer. Dirk I agree with you in regards to the wind. I don't miss that at all when riding since it seems like I have to deal with it on every outdoor ride I do. I am glad to hear it's not just me either with the sit bones on the trainer. It seems I can ride much longer outdoors without issue but on the trainer I need to get up every 60 to 90 minutes. Outdoors I don't really have that problem and last year it seemed a lot worse on the trainer. This year it's not so bad but not as comfortable as an outdoor ride. I wonder why that is? |

![]() RunningYogini - 2013-03-02 1:56 PM Well.....I might have beat the women's record again! I'm not so sure I did as good as recorded, though. I think I'll wait for the official results early next week. Regardless, it was a great race and I rode to my absolute potential! I couldn't have gone any faster. Lots of the fasties showed up today, too! I know there were lots of age group records broken between the two courses (hilly and flat). The weather was pretty good. Damp pavement, dense-ish fog, lots of water droplets on glasses, 48*, no wind. Oh! And a cattle drive on the course that finished up just before the start! Yuck! ETA: The local news was all over the place, too. Every time I came around a corner, the he was with his video camera! Need to watch the news tonight. Congratulations! |

![]() strikyr - 2013-03-02 9:12 AM I got my first ever run in on the treadmill last night. I've never run on one before ever. It took a little bit to get oriented to doing it but it wasn't really that bad. I ran for an hour and was just under 6 miles as I sort of ramped the speed up as I got more comfortable running on it. I also did my first bike/run brick this season and my first one indoors. Last night it was the dreaded 2x18's @ 90-95%. That was a pretty tough bike workout but not bad as I thought it would be. I got an 1:05 in on the bike and then 1:00 on the treadmill. Good thing was I felt pretty good afterwards. I think I may be in the best shape I've ever been in. I'm certainly in much better shape to start the season than I was last year. That has to be a great feeling! Great workout, I'm impressed at an hour on the treadmill. |

![]() DirkP - 2013-03-02 6:35 AM trigal38 - 2013-03-02 7:10 AM I did it - out the door for my run at 4:00 a.m., 5 miles in 18 degrees all by my lonely self in the dark. I'm not a morning runner, I was stumbling over my own feet for the first mile or so LOL. I don't want to do that every week but I'm proud of myself for not bailing on that one. All I kept thinking was the sooner I finish the sooner I can have my coffee That makes 5 weeks in a row with a longer run of 5 miles or more for me. Last year I think I only ran that distance a few times and then had to deal with lots of pain in my leg from that cyst (which is still there but not giving me any pain). I finally feel like I'm making some kind of progress! I'm slow but still going so I'll take it. Here are my Feb totals:
Getting up at 4 AM and getting anything done is an accomplishment in itself!! I am a little different however, I have to have a few minutes to get my mind in gear and body awake before going for a run AND some coffee. I really need at least 30 minutes before I can force myself out the door for early runs. It's really awesome to her that you're getting those 5 milers in. It has to make you pretty happy to be able to string those together. Congrats! I debated this but I finally thought I should just go because I could drink coffee in the van all the way to Ohio if I wanted but if I sit down in the recliner I might not get up again! |

I take a multi vitamin, vit d, glucosamine, fish oil. Tony you are training like an Ironman...you are a stud! Ok enough is enough, take your cold weather back..it was 29 here today! I'm not as tough as ya'll Tracy, congrats on the race!!!!! Dirk, we have a min dachshund too!!! Great training for you too. Jeff, you are a tough guy, that is a LOT of miles even w/ good heels. Be careful! Wel this week has to be a rest week, not by my liking but due to obligations. Son has doubleheader baseball games Monday and Thursday) so that means we'll be getting home LATE and only getting 1 w/o in a day, if that. The good thing is we'll get to see Jen hopefully since the games are in her hometown. Ok enough is enough, my northern friends, take your cold weather back..it was 29 here today! I'm not as tough as ya'll. I felt like the Pillsbury dough boy running today. Every, ya'll are had awesome training for Feb. GREAT job! Stain injury free and Keep er Gassed! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() February Totals:
Not too bad considering the second half of the month I missed several workouts. I lost a week in February b/c things got too busy at the end of the month and I lost a week in January b/c I was in California. My numbers are higher for February than January so I am pleased with that. But, if I am going to sign up for the Olympic Distance Madison Tri in May, I do need to start increasing and being more diligent about the cycling. I dread getting up and doing 4:00 a.m. sessions on the bike trainer. |

For those of you with training knowledge, what do you think about this weekly plan for continuing to build base: Mon- long run Tue- S & B Wed- short run Thur- bike Fri- swim Sat- long bike Sun- off 1. I bought an old used tire from my LBS for $10 and have been using that on my trainer all winter. 2. I take SAM-e but that is more for a mood stabilizer. I tried Glucosamine Chondriotin + MSM earlier this winter but it made me lethargic and extremely sleepy so I had to quit. But if anyone is interested I have 2 full bottles just sitting in my cabinet! 3. I'll leave the training for the mentors |

I recently retired my old bike to the trainer, so I don't use a separate wheel. 2. Do you take any daily vitamins? I take a daily vitamin, a restore supplement at night for days when I do long sessions (helps with inflammation and immune support **don't want to catch all the bugs my kids bring home**), and I usually drink some protein shakes since I don't have the most amazing diet. 3. Do you use a separate tire or wheel for trainer tides? No been using the same tire but will replace it in the spring and get a cheap spare wheel and cassette for the trainer. 2. Do you take any daily vitamins? The only supplement I take daily is vitamin D for boosting the immune system. 3. For those of you with training knowledge, what do you think about this weekly plan for continuing to build base: I'm no expert but it looks good to me. The one comment I would make is if you decide to the IM try and keep your long run and long bike as far apart as possible so your fresh for both workouts if you can. Mon- long run Tue- S & B Wed- short run Thur- bike Fri- swim Sat- long bike Sun- off Will answer's inline. Edited by strikyr 2013-03-04 8:32 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I take a multivitamin for insurance purposes as I feel it can't hurt! Just in case I'm depleted of some vitamins and minerals. I have been using the costco (kirkland) version of the "performance" multivitamin for a few years now. If I'm not active, I was taking one every other day, but nowadays since I'm more active I'll take one every day. I also take fish oil, thinking it can't hurt. (I do eat fish on a regular basis too.) And then I'm still finishing off the glucosamine I bought when Karl recommended that when my elbow pain was at its max. I had another PT session this morning. I asked that he look at my elbows today, so the evaluation was today, and we'll start working on some specific stuff next week. (I'm down to going once a week now- I feel that's much easier to mentally accept so I don't have to be waking up really early twice a week.) Today I was basically told I lack muscle mass. The upper body doesn't really surprise me so much since I'm a relatively small person, but he said the lower body is lacking too. So that was interesting. I haven't really lifted upper body in awhile because it had seemed like the lifting was not good for the elbows, but it seems like there could be some added benefits to lifting because the elbow issues could also be because of lack of strength in the arms (or rather, that is not helping the situation)... but we'll be talking more about that next week. But basically he says he wants me to add "bulk" to upper and lower body. I've got many problems! Just even generally he will make comments about this or that in the way I move and such too. lol. |

For those of you with training knowledge, what do you think about this weekly plan for continuing to build base: Mon- long run Tue- S & B Wed- short run Thur- bike Fri- swim Sat- long bike Sun- off I have always ridden with my training wheels. But I seldom ride my trainer and if I did so regularly I would make sure I'm on a cheap rear tire (my training tires aren't cheap actually, but they are cheaper than my racing tires). I recently began taking Magnesium and L-lysine because I think they may be beneficial due to the huge amount of training I'm doing. I will take C and E when I think of it, but not religiously. Your training looks OK. You are doing something each day except for your rest day, that's good. I don't think that just 2 runs per week is enough in the longer term unless you've always found running relatively easy or have a background in running. Go ahead with what you are doing now and we can re-evaluate in a few months or when you have your first triathlon and we can see how it goes.

Thinking about giving infinit a try... Will I have used infinit and I like. I like the fact you can customize it and I don't have issues with it. I really like using that for the bike and pretty much used that for me Oly and HIM last season and will be using that for my IM this year. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just wanted to warn everyone doing Jorge's WCP that the week 14 day 1 workout which I did this evening was by far the worse one I have done to date. I apologize for spoiling it for everyone and other factors may have played into this workout sucking so bad like having to work 10 hours on Sunday morning and getting very little sleep. I thought the 2x18's I did last Friday were bad but tonight's 4x10's @ 95-100% were far worse. I was cursing Jorge out the whole hour. When I finished this work out you could have gotten the butter and jam because I was toast man. I also made the mistake of looking ahead and I believe there is a 2x20 workout on Friday. Not looking forward to that. |
