Everyone missed that "avg package".......I can always count on you :-)

Life is peaceful internally and crazy externally just the way I like it. 

Nothing epic to report. 

When I started working in the UK I was stunned to get 25 days vacation (not including sick days - we actually didn't have a max number of sick days per year, if you were sick you just called in), and now that I'm back in North America, it's a bit of a shock to be offered only 14.

There was a weird situation in a company I worked for and their policies ended up biting them in the butt.  They didn't pay overtime, but every hour you worked over 40, you got that is paid time off later.  But we were SO busy, people were putting int 50-60 hour weeks and quickly accrued hundreds of PTO hours.

We started to complain that we should get paid those hours but the company stood firm that they are PTO hours.  BUT, when do you take PTO when you are so busy you are working 60 hours a week?  They said that it was an incentive for us to take off and they technically didn't WANT us to work that much.

Well, when they refused to pay the house, we all put in for vacation requests.  We all asked for 2 months off and our boss even asked for June-September off - PAID.

Well, they suddenly saw the error in their ways.  The can't have people off for 2-4 months in a row and still getting paid.

I have been with around 5 firms now, and I can say that no one really figures out the salary/hourly and PTO/Sick/Vacation very well.  There are problems with every way they try to manage it.

My biggest pet peeve is the "you are salary" so we won't pay you for anything over 40 hours.  BUT, if you work UNDER 40 hours, it comes out of your PTO.  If no PTO?  You don't get paid.

So salary when there is a lot of work and it benefits the company, but hourly when we are lite.

That is what people who have small packages say....right?!!? 

Hello.  Things going good?  I'm glad it was a short week, personally.

10 is just way too little, what in the heck can you do with only 10?!?

As good as I can ask for, I guess? Fed, clothed, thinking (hard) and the occasional laugh......eh?

This weekend is monopolized by baseball games and little sun ......BOO!

I'm not sure what's going to happen this weekend.  But we got LOT'S of sun.  May even hit the 100's

I think the invent of Political Joe is worth all the other issues of the rollover combined.

It's simply brilliant.  And as someone who LOVES observing and looking at group dynamics (I should go back to school for sociology), it's cool what's it's shown.  I cool social experiment in a way, even if it was unintentional...

Got a Groupon in my email this morning for a Tracy Morgan show...  I think $20 might STILL be too much for his shows.

They could pay me $20 and I probably wouldn't go.  His stand up on HBO or something was AWFUL.

Ha!  You sound like my dad - I don't remember him taking a sick day in his life except for when he was a referee in the CFL and got tackled accidentally and ended up with a few broken ribs.   Other than that - his sick time just accumulated and the year that he retired the school board implemented not paying out accrued sick time.  He had something ridiculous like 12 years of sick time in the bank.
