Is this a humongous week for anyone else?

Not complaining, but wow my coach has me doing a 3-hour workout tonight. Tough to fit in on a weeknight - I really admire those of you with families pulling this stuff off!

Tongue outI am a little overwhelmed myself with the workouts!! having a hard time fitting 2 workouts a day with my work schedule. Oh well! life goes on right. If I had to do a 3 hour workout after work I would never be able to go to sleep...long workouts at night give me way to much energy.

Good luck tonight!

Yeah, I felt like I got hit by a bus trying to get my swim in this morning. I missed my weight lifting yesterday because I worked 4am to 4pm, then hurried across town to join a group bike ride, then did my brick run, then by the time I got home it was 8:30ish and I was in no condition to do anything but pass out. This whole week is crushing me, then I get to do the group ride in Louisville on Saturday (full course) followed by a 12 mile brick run (I don't see that happening), then drive back home so I can work at 4am Sunday. I feel exhausted just thinking about it... actually, no, the exhaustion I feel is from what I have already done. But it will all be worth it in 39 days!!

On a side note, during our current heat wave (temps up to 97, heat index up to ~110) the local news advised everyone to stay in air conditioning as much as possible, don't spend more than 15 minutes outside at a time, and don't engage in any strenuous activity outside... I got a good laugh from that and thought you guys might enjoy it too!

Just picked up my race bike with new Zipp 900 clincher disc installed - used my old DA 11-23 cassette and got a new chain to boot...Excited!  Testing it out with an hour ride on windy Fiesta Island after work.  Then a 5-mile T run with a local running group.

Starting to come around - Some big workouts and even a few doubles lately.  Keep it up everyone!

Kiwi Lee- I just want you to know that I'm not ignoring your request, but I live in MI, about 6.5 hrs. from Louisville, and my entire family will fill our van, so I simply don't have the capacity to help you out. Good luck!

Tri-Sam - yep snorkels are allowed. I checked with Ironman Louisville before I signed up back in November and again recently to make sure nothing had changed.  Ihad to teach myself how to swim so I am not very strong swimmer, thus the need for a snorkel.  But I will keep at it. Hopefully by next year I'll be able to swim without the snorkel.

Hey Cincytodd - thatnks for the tip. Unfortunately I am from Cincinnati but haven't lived there for a few years.  Down here in Georgia.  Luckily there are plenty of hills to train on at Stone Mountain.  Will be doing the Cincinnati Triathlon this weekend. Can't wait to go back home for that ... not to mention getting to have some Larosa's and Skyline Chili

Yes - 17 hours this week.  But next week is even bigger at 19 hours.  One of my workouts is a "bike sandwich".  1:45 Run - immediataly followed by 1:00 bike - immediately followed by :45 minute run.  That should be fun!

Heading out the door now for speedwork in the hot, humid weather!  Hope to get a bike in tonight but the heat index is supposed to be 115 today here in Louisville so we'll see.

Kevin

LOL at the "bike sandwich"

I'm glad to read that others are suffering through some long, hot and humid workouts. No offense, but misery loves company and I think about all of you when i'm grinding away at that long swim, bike, or run.

We're almost there!!!!! Train safe!

The surprise cool front and clean air that came through Atlanta last weekend gave me a much needed mental break from the grind of training in the heat.  I'm ready to be done with this training already.

Yes, ginormous training week even on the BT Beginner IM training plan, this is a big week!  Of course, I know the heat training is important, too, but it's really, really hard to get motivated to go out and fry.  So far, I can carry four bottles on the bike.  I'm wondering how to set up my 3-hour run so that I can have water more frequently, too, without having my wife always have to drive ahead and wait.  Maybe I should get one of those push-strollers for runners and load it up with a cooler ;  )

A little perspective on the Fink program and long rides and runs. This is my first IM. I had been following the Fink int program. I was a little nervous about it, since most of the long runs and rides were in times not distance. After completing a half iron early this month, I ended up hiring an online coach from a local group. I have been using him for the past month. He has me doing longs in miles not times. I have done 2 90s and 1 100 and two 16 mile runs and 1 18. These are a bit longer than the Fink program would have me do. I have an 80, 90, and a 100 left. I also have 2 17s and a 20 left to run before the taper. The bike distances are a bit longer but I think it's due to my slowness. If I avg 18 on a long ride, I am tickled pink. I also think the runs would be longer. I think I would have been fine with the Fink but the switch to miles is mentally reassuring. Just my two cents.

Hey Yo!! Im new in the world of blogging so be nice

I'm racing Louisville next month (2nd IM, 2nd IML) and i'm looking for anyone coming from Austin that may be interested in sharing travel and /or lodging costs. I'm debating on weather or not to fly there but i'd much rather drive.

Anyone out there in the same boat?  Bueller....Bueller?

2.4 mi swim yesterday. Wind simulated swimming upriver, much faster on the return trip with the wind.

Today...en route to 80 miles. Got a f*****g flat! Used a GU wrapper to cover the cut in my tire. Inflated enough to get to a party store to call home for my wife to come and get me. Got 48 mi in. Now, 80 miles scheduled for Saturday.

JHouse,

I've only gone 92 miles so far.  I am planning on 101 miles Saturday, though.

I haven't been over a 100 yet either. This Saturday I'm hoping to remedy that

I've done 1x 108; 1x 112; and I plan to do 1x either 100 or 112 next week.

Having said that, I have a friend who does very well at the Ironman distance (and has done many), and he doesn't do any 100 mile rides. His longest rides are 80 miles.
