No worries. Mark is ahead of us both. Not that I'm checking on his logs or anything.

LOL Chris!

BTW Mark, how is life down in Colombia?  Hope you are having a good time and enjoy the aguardiente for me (some Cristal!)

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, competitive freaks (Wink)!

Among many things, I am grateful for this group and my ability to do all those SBR things in this ripe old age. Ernesto, you are at the helm here and steering in good direction. Please keep the course and don't abandon the ship!

And now off to the car mechanic to pick up my car after the regular service. It is 27C (not bad) and I'm running again today...

Not that you're competitive or nothing, huh? Laughing

I'm feeling a photo finish coming up, maybe you, Chris, Gabe and Jackie... Hard to tell who'll win now. Everybody is so driven though, I think the last couple of days are going to be hectic.

Gabe, I will fly on Wednesday, right now still down under. And yes, mate, I will down some of the local aguardiente for you, no worries!

I don't know if we're getting an extra point for a race, but today I did a 5k trail  PARKRUN  race. It was hot, even at 7am and I could only manage 24:31. So I'm not posting any updated numbers till I clarify this. Tomorrow is the the last Sunday in November and depending on the weather it will be either a run or bike in the morning. Next week - only minimum.

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

Congrats to all of you with your PR's. You are great motivation.  Having not raced in months I can't imagine the feeling of putting training to the test.  The temp dropped quickly during our run tonight.  I have opted to stop running the trail except for my long runs.  The miles of steep climbs is great but so hard to gauge my fitness.  The path I took isn't flat but it is as flat as I can get if I run from the house.  I may be able to get a better read as to how I'm doing this way.  This weekend Scott and I have a long bike and a long run... Looking forward to it!  Again way to go everyone!!!!

Congrats to everyone who got a PR yesterday!  I had a decent run today.  6.23 miles in 51:24 at an average HR of 145.  After seeing all the PRs, I'm looking forward to racing a 10k next month.  As Jennie mentioned, we are looking forward to a bike and run workout this weekend.  Maybe even a drowning session in the pool to boot.

Well, like I've always said there's only two types of riders: those who took a spill and those who will. Today I changed my status to one that went down. Last night it rained and it left everything slippery, and it is incredibly windy today as well. So right before taking a fast corner (probably 25mph usually) I braked as a precaution and took it wide open and slow, maybe 20mph, but even after the precautions I just kept going down. I didn't get tense which helped a lot, but I got some bad road rash on my left leg right below the hip, some below the knee and a bump about two inches below my left elbow.

I was on the front of a pack and thankfully no one went down behind me. I shook the dirt off, got on my bike and finished the ride (this happened midway through it). I didn't feel bad at all. Now that I'm relaxed at home I can feel it more, but it really wasn't that big a deal. The bike has some very minor damage (just the bar tape and a scratch).

So, all that said, I rode 43 miles in 2:36'43". Tomorrow it's gonna hurt, but count on me working out! Tongue out

Ernesto, sorry to hear about your crash today, but glad to hear it wasn't any worst and that you are taking it in good spirit! Hope your road rash heals soon!

Today, based on my IM plan, I got in a long bike ride plus a brick run.  The bike ride I had done before when training for my first half IM a few months back and I would end up exhausted since it has a constant climb on the way back.  Today I was able to finish in fairly good shape, which I believe is a direct result from our November challenge!!!   However, I'm really worried if I'm going to be able to last all the way through the night since now I have two weddings to attend today, so we will see how it goes...

Today: Long bike ride 57.53 Mi, 3:17:35 + Short Brick Run 24:11

Total 34:41:16

Ernesto, Bummer. Glad you are ok. I hate to say it, but one reason I'm slow on the bike is I'm a chicken.

Mark,

I looked at the note in your log. I think you need to go back and look at the rules regarding what a race gets you. (Not that it matters. Gabe is pulling away at the finish.)

Today, 10 mile run with run club. 1:31:40. I reserve the right to update with a swim later today, but not likely. My legs are shot.

Glad you're gonna be ok, Ernesto.

So, I ran 13.1 mi today without really trying (my plan called for 12) in 2:21.  Should I do White Rock or should I just take it easy next weekend?  Carol already has my room ready.

Also looking at a replacement for my road bike.  This bike is in Grapevine.

Being used and with those components, it is not a great deal, just fair. Why the sudden rush to get another road rig? The heavier your road rig is, the faster you will go on your triathlon bike...

And about White Rock, just run the race, it is huge and fun. The new course is very appealing too.

Ernesto,
Sorry to hear about the bike crash.  It's good that the damage isn't too bad on you and the bike.  When I bought my first bike I was told I wouldn't be a real cyclist until I crashed once.  I'm just glad I haven't had any high speed crashes.  Kudos for getting back on the bike and finishing the ride!

Jennie and I did a good indoor bike ride on the trainer.  We rode about 2:10:00 and I did 32 miles and Jennie did about 30 miles.  I was definietly feeling a bit of tiredness in my legs from the run yesterday and the 2 hours of roller skating with the kids.  Time to get lunch and a recovery drink now to get ready for tomorrow's long run.

Gabe,

There is a point in every marathon where one of the lead runners pulls away from the pack and the others don't (or can't) follow. In bike events, it's usually some big hill where Lance would just pull away.

No swim for me today. In the immortal words of Roberto Duran, "no mas". (I will still be putting in around 1:15 each day, I hope, the remaining days).

I can't speak for Mark or Jackie, but I just don't have a three hour day in me today (and I doubt it tomorrow).

My road bike has low-end components.  Since I got my tri-bike, I don't want to ride my road bike.  It doesn't shift smoothly.  I was thinking that a different road bike with higher-end components might make me want to ride the road bike more.  I could certainly just upgrade the road bike I have.

Time for an update, since the weekend workout is over for me. Nice MTB 02:05 ride this morning, no desire to do more, too hot and we have some social engagements.

Chris, still haven't found the ruling on the races, so include only days with prescribed workout to date. And you're right, hopes of catching Gabe are pretty slim.

Chris, I was in the middle of the mass of the first of two weddings today, and since Latino Catholic mass services are eternal, I was reading messages on my cel when I saw your comment and I literally started laughing out loud (which generated a number of stares from the crowd)

I wouldn't count out either of the Ironmans (Ernesto or Mark) pulling a long workout to take the lead!

Additionally, I'm now on my way to the 2nd wedding and its not looking pretty (both weddings are from my wifes's cousins) so I will be hurting for a couple of days with little chance of decent workouts Cool

Actually I grew up watching David Carradine and his blind Sensei. I am old enough! Is that good or not?

Jackie, I think you can find even better deals. I'm suscribed to slickbikes.com and they have INCREDIBLE closeouts sometimes. The trick is to be patient and wait, this is also the right season, bikes during the spring are more expensive because of the obvious increased demand. I'll keep an eye open on bargains and wire them to you, now that I know your intentions.
