Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This weekends goals: Saturday - 25 mile bike ride in the freezing cold. Brrrr!!! I'm tired of the stationary bike at the Y. I've got to get outside again! Afterwards, meeting guy about a road bike that I am thinking about purchasing. Got to take it to a bike shop and make sure it fits me. Can't wait! Sunday - Going to go to my Granny's house for a family get together. I plan on giving my father the evil eye the entire time. Just to mess with his head :P (Trust me, he totally deserves it.) Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and good luck to those racing! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() dalessit - 2010-01-08 1:44 PM So Steve, Matt, Ryan, come on Pete Caroll? He was a horrible NFL coach, he is only a good College coach because the rest of the Pac 10 is poo poo so all the decent players on the west coast go there... I know... frankly, I was surprised they gave Mora the boot so quickly. I haven't heard about whether the rest of the coaching staff is going to stay or not. The Hawks OC was pretty awful; we have a decent group of receivers here, especially with Housh in town, but I don't think we used them effectively at all. Anyway, I'm skeptical of Carroll too. Zero tri content there... hmmm... um, let's see. For all you beginners, the newest issue of Triathlete magazine is targeted at you, with a special guide, checklist, etc. Might be worth checking out! |

I will make a post in the Ohio forums and see what I can find. You might be able to just get a few lessons from the local swimming pool etc. the expense is significantly less and it might make a world of diference to your stuyle. I know it helped me a coupl of years ago. I did 2 lessons per week for 6 weeks, I think< and it cost me only about 100.00 No hits yet on the ohio forums. Its not that I can t swim, I am a great swimmer, I just need to learn how to swim endurance. I burn myself out too quit and just need someone to watch my form and correct it so I can swim a longer distance/ It sounds like you may have the same issue as me. Less than two weeks ago (Dec 29th) I posted about my swimming endurance issue. At the time, I was struggling to make 300yds without stopping because I was going too fast (1:30/100). Since then I have done two things. First, I changed my warmup routine from swimming 200 straight freestyle, to swimming 300 mixed alternating between 50 free and 50 breast. This change prevents me from wasting my energy during my warmup. Then, on my main sets, I SLOWED DOWN. The key here was patience. I had to be patient, and make a concious effort to slow way down. As a result, I swam my first 1000 straight yesterday in 19:09. Still below 2:00/100, and now I have a good training pace that I can build from. Once my endurance is solid, then I can start pushing my faster paces again. Maybe it isn't your form, perhaps you just need to slow down ALOT, until your endurance is solid. Oh, and slowing down is FREE! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() fattyfatfat - 2010-01-08 10:47 AM OK DJ. I think I found it. And never mind what i said. It looks pretty good. Yeah do it! http://www.swimlv.com/intermediate-4-week-stroke-clinic.html geez. if that's it they have some really cool programs. did you see the ows lessons? i wish we had something like this around here. yep, that's it. Man you're the king when it comes looking stuff up in the web. Hope you don't find my "PRIVATE" page. *winks* Yeah, I saw the OWS as well, and I like that too because I've heard that OWS is WAY different than your normal pool. However, I do have a couple tri friends that will do OWS prior to racing, so I'm not sure if it's going to be any valuable paying extra. But we'll see... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Weekend: No races, but two rides. I have two rides lined up - Tomorrow is 25ish to 30 miles (easy pace, and this time I'm bringing my HRM to see how I do on the hills since this is the SAME ride I went last week, and I'm curious how high my HR gets), and THIS time I have NO frickin' excuse about not eating before the ride since the place is giving away free breakfast. Sunday is 10-15 mile ride easy recovery group ride, and BLV.com beginners ride, so I'm just hanging out to enjoy the ride. Maybe after they're gone, I will do some intervals on one of the Lake loops and hopefully get negative splits per lap (1.3 miles or so per lap). Hopefully no more than 20 miles on Sunday. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is one of the things I'm working on in my swim group. I have gone from mid 30's per 25 meters to mid 20's in the past month. I'm also working on rotation. tahrens - 2010-01-08 4:54 PM Have you tried counting your strokes and or timing your laps? Maybe decreasing your stroke count or purposely taking longer to swim a lap could help? Also form drills are great at building endurance. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well tack another day on to the no swim list. I came home and did my 5 min LT test, not really sure of what I could push, I feel pretty good about it, I may have been just a bit under what I could do. My 20 min TT: 274 Watts 5 min TT: 319 Watts Using Jorges formula, puts me at 259 LTP, I think I could push the 20 minute one a bit harder as well, but pretty good numbers, with room for improvement before the season starts. I think the pool should be open tomorrow, so I hope to get a good swim in as well as a nice easy run with another swim Sunday and long bike ride. |

He was a horrible NFL coach, he is only a good College coach because the rest of the Pac 10 is poo poo so all the decent players on the west coast go there... Looks like Carroll might be headed to the Seahawks and Reilly might be headed to USC. Robert Have to agree with Tony, Pete didn't find much success in the NFL years ago. But, his staff has been raided the last few years and this season was pretty frustrating .. so he may be listening. Hate to see him go, I think he's done a great job and he's got class. How many coaches possess both of those characteristics? |

![]() CyborgQueen - I've heard that OWS is WAY different than your normal pool. Some struggle with the difference between the pool and ows and others don't. I strongly suggest doing some ows before your first tri. The nerves of the race may kick in and you need to feel comfortable in the water. |

What do you do with that information? I've done the 20' for off season and the 60 minute during season, but no one has ever had me do the shorter ones..... |

The nerves of the race may kick in and you need to feel comfortable in the water. OWS is a lot different to me....you can't see the bottom, you need to site often to keep a straight line, you have a lot of humans around you swimming like crazy people and there are no walls to grab if you need them. When I first started, I did it in shallow enough water I could stand up in if I needed to....strongly recommend it. |

In this instance all the muscle balancing and resting doesn't do a lot to solve the long term problem.....key is attacking the short leg. I asked if I could have two new ones, preferably 6-10" longer than the current set, but my doctor turned me down. ![]() Suzy wait there's hope !!!! i'll forward you some of the emails i get about gaining 6-10".

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am modifying the cycling plan Jorge had to fit in with my BT plan I am using. It has you do both a 20 and a 5 in order to better estimate your 60. Mine happened to be only 1 watt different. It is also a good way to get your peak powers at a certain time. The 60 minute one just takes a lot of focusing. It also can resemble a strong start to push out of transition as well. |
