Veteran 140 Quail Valley | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Legs feel really tired this week and it is reassuring to see that others seem to be in the same boat. Only a few more weeks until it gets better.... We just need to hold on. Usaully really hot here but its been staying in the mid to low 90's w/o humidity... Not much I can do. I did where underarmer both days last weekend to help heat me up some.

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread 9 mile walk; much of it in the rain; averaging 15 minutes per mile, and this includes stopping several times briefly to massage my Achilles tendon when it reach its peak soreness. First three miles went well, after that I had ups in downs with regard to the level of pain I felt in my Achilles. So, this was both inspirational...and questionable. Either way, its done. The bigger test will be in two weeks for my personal 70.3 (swim/bike/walk). Peace. |

First century ride (cruised @ 5:55:51) and a 3.6mi/30min. transision run that I sub-split on 8:15's on steaming roads after a rain shower. Legs felt better as run went on. Couldn't be happier right now!!! Data to follow, along with a Chic Pizza and Cold Beer for dinner!!!!! |

With my IT band and Patella Femur problems, I know I will be walking a majority of the marathon. With my planned times, I have to run at least a 10k to finish within the 17 hours. At this point, I'm unsure if I should do "run" training, "walk" training, or a mixture of both. |

Member 37 Louisville, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Rode the full course for the 1st time today. Pleased with my pace but even happier with my progress with nutrition. Not saying I have it completely figured out but it was very warm (heat index over 100) and I felt good at the end of the ride. I hadn't paid much attention to electrolytes before but recently started using Endurolytes and I think it's made a world of difference! Only a handful of weeks to figure it all out. |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Kevin- Good work. Glad the ride went well for you. Are you taking tablets?
ANYONE- IF YOU USE SALT TABLETS, WHAT KIND? HOW MANY? AND AT WHAT FREQUENCY? WHAT IS 'NORMAL-ISH' INTAKE OF SUCH THINGS? I know it's late in the game, but I'm thinking I should give 'em a go on my next long ride, and I'm looking for some general guidelines. Thanks. |

Veteran 118 Somerset, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Finished my first 100 miler on the bike. It turned inti an epic struggle of mind over my legs. I did an out and back loop which turned out to bite me in the rear. I cruised the first 50 miles and then turned for home. Average pace was over 18 mph on rolling hills on the out bound leg. Apparently there was a good tailwind as well. The way back home was into that head wind for almost the entire ride. The return trip also included a 14%, 12% and three 11% climbs. My legs were screaming when I got back. Overall average ended up being 16.8 I did manage to throw in a transition run but cut it to 45 min from an hour. Overall I'm really please with the session. Member 37 Louisville, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Tri Sam - Yes, they're actually capsules. Hammer Endurolytes. A friend of mine who is a pro cyclist turned me on to them. The bottle says take 1-6 per hour depending on temperature (the hotter the more salt you lose through sweat). Personally so far I've ben taking a couple before my workout then 2-3 every hour. I had a bad experience at a HIM 2 weeks ago. It was hot and I finished feeling sick, light-headed and cramping. I've been using the Endurolytes since with good results. Someone with more experience could probably share more insight on the uses/benefits. |

I use Saltstick pills on the bike, they have much more actual sodium than the Endurolytes. I take one about every hour, as long as I can keep them down. It's hard for me to swallow pills on the bike sometimes. Saltstick ingredients: 215 mg sodium, 63 mg potassium, 11 mg magnesium, 22 mg calcium Also here is a handy tip I picked up: empty a Tic-Tac or Mentos container to use as your pill dispenser. Really easy to pop open the lid without a high risk of losing your stash - and a pretty cheap container, especially compared to the "dispenser" options online. Regular 99 Holland, Mich. | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Sam - Think I've posted on Endurlytes, too, and I am completely sold on them! I really, really used to struggle with cramping, etc., and two capsules per hour keeps my system happy. I've been using them for about two months now, and have had no problems. I know there are other brands out there, too, and they're probably just as good. Made the late decision to switch saddles on the bike. I got a great deal on a Koobi tri saddle, and after the first ride with it last nigh, it seems promising. I've been finding that longer distances on the TT bike and the Selle SanMarco Ponza saddle I had were just getting too uncomfortable after about 60 miles. The Ponza is too soft and "crowds" me in all the wrong places. Plus, its smooth surface left me sliding forward too much unless I tilted the saddle way up, and, well ... that causes problems, too. Still a lot of "conditioning" of my rear to accomplish, but so far, so good. Wow, everyone ... this is really going to happen!

Spending the next two days camping with the fam. and I'm not planning on working out until Tuesday afternoon. Now...let's just see if I can stick to that. Peace. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I've used SaltStick caps for a while. One or 2 every hour depending on heat/humidity. I eat Shot Bloks on the bike (and drink Carbo-Pro) and I usually take a salt tab or two every other time I feed, which is every 20-30 min. Haven't really experienced any major cramps in a race yet. May try to take 3 an hour in Louisville - wow, that's 18 salt tabs just on the bike! |

Veteran 300 Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I was feeling a little behind as well for not having not done a 100 mile ride yet, I was inspired by fred cube's 100 mile post and went for my first century on Saturday. I failed my nutrition and really suffered the last 15 miles, but done and checked off. I have one more 100 mile ride on my schedule lets hope I can get it dialed in. |

I know a lot of people that will be riding both disc wheels and wheel covers. I personally will be riding a disc and an 88MM deep front wheel. |
