Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I got a semi long run in the bag, 9 miles in 1:14'48" My left shoulder blade hurts and the right side of my neck as well, I guess from the whiplash. Curiously my legs are just fine, just normal soreness from the training. First ever run where my upper body hurts more than the bottom. I'm not going to lie, I'm looking forward to a couple of days off after Wednesday, especially after falling yesterday. Plus, next Sunday I'm running the White Rock Half Marathon and I need the taper. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ernesto, that's a good run you got in today after your crash yesterday and hope your upper body pain is just a result from the whiplash you mention. So today I'm hurting big time from yesterday's long workout and then partying long in two weddings until late at night. Its funny how quickly I lost my partying recovery powers. Today I did an indoor bike workout and now having a nice cold beer, so slowly feeling a little better! Today indoor bike - 1:05:36

![]() | ![]() Unlike Ernesto, everything that hurts for me is from the thighs down. I spent my time in church today thinking about how sore my hamstrings were, and could I get away with rubbing them in the pews without looking too weird. (Decided against). I think that race took more out of me than I thought at first. Today. 10k recovery run. 59:24 Gabe 27 days, 35:46'52" Mark 27 days, 34:14':46" Chris 27 days, 33:01'40" Jackie 26 days, 30:17'17" Ernesto 27 days, 30:11''15" Barry 26 days 22:19'27" Mitch 25 days, 17:07':58" Scott 26 days, 19:40'50" Jennie 26 days, 16:05'30 |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ernestov - 2011-11-05 2:53 PM jdiis - 2011-11-04 11:31 PM You get a special credit for any race longer than a 5k. You can take a day off before and one after but the minutes don't add up (except for the race time). Therefore if you raced a half mary in 2 hours you get three days and two hours. What is the rule on workout and points for day before and day after races? I'm thinking of racing through the time change at 1:50 AM on Sunday.
4 days: 4h 36m 01s Today was long slow run. It was long and it was slow. Mark: Above is the rule for races. You get a "free day" towards your total count of the # of days in November with a 30 minute or greater workout. You don't have to take the day off, but I'm thinking you also don't get an extra "point" if you do workout the day before or day after. NOTE: I could be wrong.... Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, I just confirmed by looking at the graphs BT will generate for you...if I can get 5 more run miles in this month (which I will) I will have my first 100 mile running month ever! Not monster mileage by many standards, but a big milestone for me. Now the key will be to string along months with 100+ mileage. Edited by dangremond 2011-11-27 3:26 PM |

If you build a 25 mile per week base, that will make a huge, huge difference in your runs and fitness in general. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ernesto - Sorry to hear about your crash. The local head of the biggest group ride here in Detroit hit black ice this weekend and ended up in the hospital with a broken femur - pins and screws to put him back together. Glad to hear yours wasn't too bad. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 3 more days until a REST day. Running the White Rock Half Sunday thanks to a little encouragement from Carol and Ernesto! I reflect most days on what I am thankful for, and especially during Thanksgiving, I want to let everyone know how thankful I am to be part of this awesome mentoring group. I can't believe how tight this group has become and how much I have learned and it's all virtual - way cool! Thanks to all of you! Gabe 27 days, 35:46'52" Ernesto 27 days, 30:11'15" |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Like Jackie mentioned.. This has been an amazing group to be part of and I think maybe I had a breakthrough...FINALLY, either that or it was just a really good day. I have had to adjust my training and heart reat to account for the hilly environment and the lack of aerobic conditioning in my past. Not to mention the change from sea level to neat 7000 ft. Today was out long run of 1:30'00. For the first time my heart rate wasn't off the chart on the hills and when it did elevate I didn't have to walk to get it lowered. I am including my garmin link for Ernesto and everyone to look at. All feed back is welcomed. I am including Scott's time in the update as well. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/131362066 Gabe 27 days, 35:46'52" Ernesto 27 days, 30:11'15"

Jennie, It is WAY better than what it used to be, your body seems to be perfectly acclimated to the extreme altitude, which will make you fly when you come down to sea level. Keep embracing the HR method Jennie, it is a leap of faith but more than one in this group can assure you it works. I'm one of those! Congratulations on the breakthrough workout, those are earned, not given! |

Gabe 27 days, 35:46'52" Ernesto 27 days, 30:11'15" Jackie, well put, I could not agree more! This has been an amazing group and experience! My streak ended yesterday as I did not get a workout in. I travelled all day through some horrible traffic and a drive that usually takes 14 - 15 hours ended up taking 18. I did not get home until 11:50pm after starting out at 5:30 am. Still I've set a PR of 28 consecutive days (counting Oct 30 & 31 which were not part of the challenge) of workouts. I've learned a lot about working out and my body and watching you guys at the top of the leader board has been almost as exciting as actually watching Kona! :-) I've not decided whether to jump back on the wagon for the final 3 days or not. Today will be really crazy at work so I'll play it by ear. (I'll have my gear with me of course) I hope everyone had a great holiday! Edited by baurryman 2011-11-28 7:56 AM |

I also fully agree with Jackie's comment, and am also totally thankful for the great group we have here, the bond that we have established during this year, along with the great guidance and motivation from our great coach Ernesto and every single one of you. It is really exciting to see how much everyone has improved along the way and how much farther we have pushed ourselves, thanks to the encouragement from the group. Muchas gracias amigos! Also Barry, you are a total trooper and like Ernesto said, you should not quit since you are so close to the end and had a crazy drive yesterday (I think we should give Barry a free pass for yesterday, especially since he is winning the award for the most outrageous workout by waking up to run at 3:30am!) |

LOL Gabe. Thanks for the encouragement guys. No free pass needed. I've already gotten so much out of this challenge. One of the biggest changes is how quickly I recover. Last night I felt like a total zombie but after 6 hours of sleep I'm at work, full of energy. That, I know, is a direct result of the challenge! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Greetings amazing athletes! No time update but I did want to share what is going on with my feet with you all. As some may remember I had some issues this past spring with my toes and ended up losing my nails. As it turns out the real problem is my foot. I gathered that the angle of the bones over the top of my foot is bad, and at a sharp downward angle. This has caused my 1st toe to rise higher than the rest. As a result when I run it doesn't respond and is jammed with each foot strike causing mico damage. The good new is that my feet are tapped and I may need custom orthodics. In the mean time shoes designed to lift that portion of my foot will help. Brooks, Saucony and asics all make the type of shoe I need and in a light weight(considering) form. The tapped my feet for 3 days and I can run tomorrow to see how it feels. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I put a short four miler at sunset. My legs are the heaviest that I can remember and it is obvious that my weight is becoming an issue. I have gained a whoping 20lbs in three years and it's time I do something about it. It'll have to wait until after the holidays though, it is nonsense to try to eat right when everything says otherwise. The good news is that I'm getting faster despite the weight, which is a good sign of fitness! Mark 29 days, 36:18':46" Gabe 27 days, 35:46'52" Ernesto 28 days, 30:45'17" |

Today I did an indoor bike workout at lunch time 1:10:51 and a 1 hr swim, 2000 mts at night, and m now relaxing with a nice glass of wine next to our Christmas tree which we finish decorating today (seems like the Christmas spirit is coming earlier each year), salud! Sorry, but my legs were sore on Friday, they were sore on Saturday, they ached so much last night I had real trouble sleeping, and today they ached AND I was tired from not sleeping. So, I did the bare minimum. 30 minutes on bike trainer. (I skipped my bike class.) One last thing. I think I found a great marathon to do this spring. The Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon. May 12. Limited to 350 runners. Flat as a pancake, on a rails-to-trails trail. Perfectly flat and straight for 13 miles, take left, perfectly straight for another 13 miles. Only an hour from home, so I can just drive out in the morning and back in the afternoon. And cheap. (Like $45). Great reviews. |
