Thanks.
Time to work on #3. Yikes!!!
So update on new bike situation. Got the go ahead from Cindy to use the extra money we got back from refinancing the house and my Dad is going to match whatever I spend. Sooooo..... Looks like a go in the fairly near future. Going to ask Tiffany, Retul fitter down the road, to dump my data into their frame finder on Saturday so I can narrow my choices. |

I'm starting to like the pink dude. Need pink bar tape though to really set it off. |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED kaburns1214 - 2012-03-14 10:12 AM I've been in a bit of a funk lately -- being sick, having to deal with athsma issues and lots of stress at work. I haven't been hitting my training marks and its bummed me out quite a bit. I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I ran 3 x 1 mile repeats. They were solid: Mile 1 - 6:47 / 162 bpm Now I just have to figure out why I can't put together a 20:30 5K.
That is really awesome Kelly! Those are good times! |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED My swim got cut short this morning due to the Master's class starting. The coach was real nice, introduced herself, then proceeded to tell me that I had 8 minutes to finish up, but I could stay and join them. I almost said yes, but there were so many people standing around waiting to start, it was a bit intimidating. Anyway, I tried to bend my arms more while pulling, and to keep my elbows closer to the surface, and I just don't get it. It seems so unnatural, and my hands are so wide out to my side. I watched a video of Ian Thorpe, and I see what Kelly is saying about the bend and elbow near the surface, he makes it look so easy. I guess I just need to keep practicing, it feels so weird. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I got pulled out of the pool this morning during an 800 meter TT because of a storm outside. Grrrrrr! I got my azz out of bed at 4:30 to get that swim in!!!!!! Now I have to rework it in sometime later this week. I'm beyond irritated. Last night my son had his swim team tryout. The coach said he wasn't ready because he wasn't breathing properly during his strokes. Sigh. 3 more months of private lessons 2 x per week and then he gets to tryout again. Conrad said he had a lot of fun and asked if he could swim like that again. When I told him that he had to do some more lessons first, he was bummed. btw....I sat and watched the youth swim team. It's a very, very competitive team. They had the 8 and under kids using fins on kick sets and longer swim sets. Why is this? I thought you weren't really supposed to use fins (I mean, you can't use them when you race, so why use them when you practice??). Does this benefit the children in some way? |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Kelly, those are some pretty darn good run splits. Rudy, awesome bike man. Are pink and purple truly your fav colors, or are those colors more so to match the Race Team you are riding for? Looks pretty cool. Was able to get 30 miles on the bike yesterday outdoors for the first time in what felt like forever. Felt great, but quads were burning on all those hills in my area. I have to assume it can only help! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED We used fins in masters swim, but not too often and even for 1000 sets. I think if done right it really helps to build hip and leg muscles. I think they also help to determine if you are kicking right because if done right you should be flying through the water. My master swim coach has had us use gym shoes for drills! They get super heavy, obviously, and are very hard to swim with! I always cramped when we did that drill. |

You swim a lot I don't go faster at all in a wetsuit.....not even a second faster. I have pretty good body positioning without one though, so perhaps that's the reason? Yes, with 2800 people swimming all around you, you ought to be able to find a fish and draft behind them! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Ha, ha, I am way faster in a wetsuit, but I have a weak swim kick. I am one of those people that is much faster using a pull buoy so a wetsuit is perfect for me. My upper body is just much stronger than my lower body swimming. |
