New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Compared to all of those nice bike that will be flying past me, I will feel like I will be on a Huffy with a few true spoke wheels and a banana seat and a 3 foot sissy bar on back. |

![]() | ![]() KathyG - 2010-04-13 4:09 PM Today I ordered an aero disc cover to put on my Zipp 404s for the race. Hope to try them out as I plan to use that combination at IMFL and Lonestar is sort of a test. Wind tunnel testing show it works just as good as a Zipp sub 9 disc and for $100 much cheaper. What is everyone riding for the race? Me my red Kuota K Factor w/Zipp 404s Excellent choice Kathy... Best bolt on aero benefit out there (IMO). I'll be riding the SRAM S80 front and DT Swiss rear w/ PT & Wheelbuilder disc cover on the rear. FWIW - I rode yesterday evening and the wind was quite strong out of the east/southeast... Great for those doing the MS 150 from Austin to Houston... as I was hittin' 27-28mph w/o heavy effort. But when I made the U-turn and started back east - Holy Wind Tunnels Batman... dropped down to 16-17. Brutal! And that is what we would feel heading back towards transition... leg draining. If it has to be windy, I hope it's from the other direction! Let the legs regroup a bit on the way to T2. BTW, I rode the race wheel set-up in this wind and the deep front was not unmanageable... I noticed some movement with gusts, but not crazy sketchy like I was warned of... |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll be riding my green, white, and black P3C (look for Dennis the Menace on the downtube). Wheels will be Zipp 404s. If I can get it completed in the next few days, the rear wheel will have a carbon fiber disc cover on it. |

Little chance of a wind free day in Galveston. I think the best we can hope for is the wind coming out of the southwest or south. It will affect the swim the least and be just a crosswind or a slight tailwind coming home on the bike. |

And where can you rent race wheels? I've checked the LBS websites, but haven't found anything. Maybe I need to go in or call and ask. I have no idea what it costs. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Marcy So looks like 19. I think the Mosquito Cafe is a good choice as their menu looks pretty good for both those who have already raced and those of us racing Sunday. I will call them to make sure they can accomodate a large group. Now the question is...what time? I think 2 sounds good. Plenty of time after the sprint and olympic and enough time for the Sunday racers to eat and then go take care of racking. If 2 sounds good, chime in! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I suggested 1:30 as folks tend to be late from what I've seen over the years on BT. Plus it is not lunch rush time so they will probably more flexible. I tried calling Monday and yesterday was busy doing my last race rehearsal and didn't call. I did 3 hour ride at HIM watts followed by 45' run 30' E and last 15' at M pace ie HIM pace and run went really well and fast for me. It was encouraging and much better than last race rehearsal 2 weeks ago..makes me feel better pacing is dialed in right for race. I'm starting to gather stuff to bring...flying for a longer tri is complicated as I need to pack a lot. |

Maybe I need to go in or call and ask. I have no idea what it costs. I know there are some sites on line. I Googled it a few days ago and a few sites showed up. If I remember correctly, they tended to be ~$100 / day (varied depending on the wheels you wanted) . I have no experience with any of them though so I can't recommend or speak from experience or recommend one site over another. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() i spoke with one of the directors at moody gardens this morning and confirmed a short time ago with the RD. the only swimming allowed from moody gardens property this year will be during the race. "palm beach will stay closed other than racetime." there's this thread in the texas forum discussing options if you want to get a swim in before the race. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, Suzy and Paul are out for lunch. I need to attend the early HIM meeting so a 1:30pm time won't work for me. Hope to catch you cats over the weekend.... |
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Are you serious that there will be no warm up swim at the beach there? I think that is not right!!! we were able to go out on the beach last year to warm up and I dont think there was no problems. I did cut my foot but it did not bother me and I still raced. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All the US Ironman races have removed Gatorade swims for 2010. I heard it was due to a lawsuit. This probably goes along with that policy. In one of the Ironman websites it says you will be DQed if you swim in area before race. It sucks as getting comfortable in the water is so helpful for me and I do that before a race not during one. |

![]() | ![]() For those of us not able to make the lunch, is there a chance for a BT meet & greet (maybe group photo op) somewhere in expo area? I'd like to actually put some faces & names together, shake some hands and doll out some well wishes for the day of racing to fellow BT'ers. As we are about to enter the final week before race day... I hope everyone feels good, gets your final training sessions in, tapers well and heads into the? ??r?a?c?e? w?e?e?k?e?n?d?? ?f?r?e?s?h? ?a?n?d? ?r?e?a?d?y??! ? |
