Has anyone heard what the water temp is this week? I am fairly certain that wetsuits will not be permitted but just in case they were...I'd love to know.

Thanks!

The Cube - 2008-05-07 6:54 PM Hey all... This will be my first IM 70.3 as well. Looking forward to it. Since starting training, I have lost almost 15 lbs. Down to 151 lbs for my 5'10" frame. I'm now entering my forth season of triathlon and thought the 70.3 distance was a good, "next step". Training went very well. Amazed at how the body responds to the extra workload and volume. Into my "taper" now. Finding the 10k runs and 30 mile rides relaxing. Still doing distance in the pool. Swam .25, 1.25, .25 yesterday and finding the short distances are really getting faster. Should be an interesting summer racing some sprints after IM. Where is everyone staying. My wife and I got a room 1.5 miles from Fort Wilderness off St Rd 192, the Comfort Inn Suites Maingate West. We have stayed there before for the Disney Oly Tri the last 2 years. GREAT spot with 5 good restaurants in the parking lot of the plaza the hotel is in and also a Winn Dixie Market Place for all your food needs. We got a friends and family rate of $39 a night booked back in Jan. Checking in on Fri, out on Monday. We'll be driving down from Newnan, GA. (south of atlanta) on Thursday and staying with friends in Orlando Thursday night. Look for us, Root beer color 2008 Honda Element SC. We'll have some kind of fun motivational message written on the back window, just for fun! Looking forward to a awsome/fun/exciting weekend!! Fred Mehrer Newnan, GA. http://www.myspace.com/fredtriguy65

I am driving down from Atlanta on Friday morning,  realized as I am typing this that I need to get a Fri nite hotel (maybe outside of orlando will be easy) and returning Monday. I am staying at the Wilderness Lodge on Sat and Sun night.  I'll be trucking alone in the Black RDX as the wife will be in New Orleans for a conference (I have been told to call her when it is over).

I am in taper after a 2200 yd swim, 2.5 hr ride (in the Buckhead hills...7,200 ft agg climb) and a 40 minute run. I still have a 1:45 bike at HIM pacing on Sat and a swim and 1:30 ride on Sunday (at taper speed...whatever that is).

I am feeling the nervousness associated with the fear of a bonk, the unknown, etc. I know that all of the coaching (Dan Arnett at Endurance Concepts rocks) and training has me more than prepared to finish in a decent time, but I am still pretty darn nervous. I grew up as a swimmer but after the John Tanner Sprint that I felt less than great in, I have some concerns. I know pacing is key but when you start a race it is hard to remember. Once on the rolling buffet, I will be ok, and then it is up to the run and how my metatarsals feel throughout.

I am at the Wilderness Lodge and will be ready for my first "more than two beers night in 5 months" after this race.

You will know me by the big JID on my right calf and over my heart for my dad that died June 6 last year. All of this training has been in memory him.

My dad lives there and we did for 11 years til moving to Georgia 4 years ago. Since the temps have been pushing 90 the last week. I would think the water temps are pushing 80 if not higher.

We will need to take a collective pee in it to cool it off.  Jeez that is toasty.  I bought a 0.03 today to cut down on drag.  I gave it a quick 4 lap test in the pool followed by an immediate water wash down.  It is FANDANGO-LY slick.

The 'collective pee' would warm it up, not cool it off. Frown

Anyone know what the clarity of the water is like?

Here in Georgia its like swimming in mud colored water you can just see your hands.
I'm hoping the water is somewhat clear.

The water is tea colored due to cypress trees, and well, just the nasty Florida muck lining the bottom.  Delightful to think of while you're swimming, and gulping it in! LOL!

No taper for me either, head on into the race. This will be my 9th week straight of a 50+ mile ride on the weekend.  Ya think my coach wants me to be comfortable on the bike in prep for an IM or something?

Looking forward to meeting everyone NEXT weekend. WOOOOOOOOO!!

Taper?  There was one?

So for me, the day(s) before the race are always crazy...but I usually have time to have a cold beverage (read:  beer) post race...think we can organize a post-race beer/cold beverage meet up????  where?  when?  Julie McCoy, please step up!

I will be at the Orlando Ale House in Lake Buena Vista on 535 for Post Race drinks! Would love to meet other BT'ers who want to join. The beer is cold and the food is good.

Long range forecast for Orlando, Sat 86/68 Sunny.
I'll be chilling around the Hotel plaza Sunday evening after the race. Maybe eat at Outback or Carrabbas. There's also a Fridays and Cracker Barrel in the plaza. All just 1.5 miles, 10 mins to Disney/Fort Wilderness.
I know Monday morning im sleeping in and getting a big breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Maybe Uncle Herschel's Favorite!!

Over the last 5 months, I have eat right, trained well (with trainer) & done two Oly tri's this spring already (including St. A's)- So.......why am I starting to worry about this race??? I've had some knee trouble which will limit my run, but the closer this race gets-the more I'm feeling uneasy. I think the heat has me concerned most of all.

I am going w/ the attitude that I can only worry about the things that I can control. The weather will be hot, I can only control how I react to that heat - slow down & really watch my nutrition and hydration. All this yoga lately has me in my zen mode. Mostly I am looking forward to laying around the hotel pool for the 2 days before the race drinking water and reading! No kids, no phones, no schedule! Race - what race?!

I was just reading the athlete's info pack and noticed that in the bike rules it says that you must wear the issued race number...placed low on your back where it is clearly visible.  Really?  I've always clipped mine on in T2.  Just wanted to share the info because most of the people I race with put their number on in T2 as well.

Race number. I have found if you have a race belt you can justwear it facing backwards on bike and turn for run.

They actually give you two numbers if I remember correctly. One for Bike and one Run. I just wear the same one on a race belt.

Hope that helps.

It's a requirement for NAS events due to the way they do the marshalling. If you get whacked for drafting/blocking/etc they mark your number at the penalty tent. They also need the number to be in a visible position to see who they are whacking. Like the other poster, I just wear a race belt and keep the number on the back until 200 m from the finish.(I don't like running with it on the front either)

Your race # is printed twice on the same paper. One side has your # and first name, the other side has your # and last name. You fold it and use which ever side you prefer.

My BT training plan confuses me sometimes...i.e. here is today's swim shown as Taper, yet is the longest swim of the entire plan.  Whatever, it's done.

Swim: IM Taper - KEY WORKOUT
80
4000
WU: 300 & 8x50on 10" rest.
MS: All are down on a 1' recovery.
1x each:
1000 70% effort.
800 75% effort.
600 80% effort.
400 85% effort.
200 85% effort.
100 100% effort.
CD: 200
