Wow,  you guys all rock!  Keep up the running!  Seems like everything has been getting in the way of this challenge for me....first travelling, now this OBNOXIOUS chest cold that just won't quit, and then I threw out my back on Saturday morning.  :p  Nothing serious, but put me out of the running for a few days....so I walked my usual easy-day run of 2.7 miles.....with a stroller and a toddler...anyway, so I broke 50% just on time.  Back is healing up ok today, and I plan to try to run again tomorrow.  I may skip my long run this week and try to do 4+ short runs instead.

Do what you have to do.  Hopefully it heals quickly...and hope you get over that chest cold soon, too!  Those have got to be the worst two enemies of running I can think of!

After my 1/2 marathon today (a PB by the way!--race report is up) I am something like 86% complete!  Hopefully you are all enjoying a wonderful weekend also.

GO MONSTERS!

P.S.  Are we in first place yet?

Sounds like a good plan.  You might want to consider water running, it would be easier on the back.  Nice you could have some time with the bambinos.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

2.74 for me tonight after work.  I'm up to 18.97 total for the month so far of my 33... so about 58%

Looks like I've got some work left to do!

Tomorrow I'm going to look at my training plan & figure out how it works with the challenge.   I'll do the necessary "tweaking" in my schedule to fit all the miles in.   I've been running by time according to the plan, not by miles like I used to.

I'll let you guys know what the plan is.

A quick look around shows our BT Challenge team in First place with 65.8 % completion.'

This may change as other team finish reporting in their weekend efforts.

Great job everyone and thanks for reporting in on all your fantastic efforts and Excellent Race results.

I raced also this weekend  and although the race went very well , my pace was  shy of where it needed to be  to reach that coveted  PR.

Next up is  Half marathon on Nov 2 so  i will focus on that now.

Other Teams  as per Week 3  reported mileage

Clowns  65.14%

ZZZZombies 61%

Horsemen  59.5%

DarkArts  59%

Vampires 56%

Ghosts &Ghouls 52%

Warewolves 44%

Actually, I believe the Clowns were ahead of you by a bit. And after the immense amount of running the Dark Arts did yesterday, we're likely to be way ahead of you by now. So enjoy your brief time at the top

I am glad the Dark Arts found some time to .... get out and run .... after all  this is a Running/walking/etc Challenge.

Perhaps we have shifted a little position wise , But when i checked the Logged  mileage this morning we were in the Lead.

Logging  100% complete  for  participants on your team  that are injured or dropped out appears  unfair  and helping to pad  your percentage upwards  .   It would more fair to   recalculate your percentage with one or two less number.

Finally some  Massive Monsters  are so far ahead of their   goals we have raised them.  Which lowered our completed totals a  bit.

Best of luck this week .

I'm sure it will be a good fight to the end As far as the injury, Cat will make the call. I've seen it done two different ways in two different challenges, it's always up to the challenge leader.

Good luck to you as well.

Hi Monsters - got the message that there an injury issue? Is it possible to get the details PM'd to me?

The formula that I mentioned in the initial sign ups works based on yuor goal divided by the number of days you are out of action - obviously you then sometimes you need some adjustments for recovery too...

The alternative is to drop out of the challenge... really is up to you but can someone pretty please fill me in on the details?

Thanks
Cat

Sorry one further note on goal reduction - it depends on the individual sitatuation but here is how its works.

If you get injured during the month you have a couple of options:

- Long term injury such as a broken leg, stress fracture, sprained ankle (extreme example)  where it would be unsafe for you to continue running usually means dropping out of the challenge and as such you no longer affect your team

- Short term illness or injury - this could be a virus, aggravation of an old injury etc then there is a standard calculation used by most challenges (including this one) which is goal/number of days out of action = goal reduction.

Occassionally there is a third option where perhaps someone has an injury that puts then out of action for a week and then can come back to the activity but at a significantly reduced volume - but these are on  a case by case basis and have to make logical sense.

Hope this clears up any confusion - as always feel free to contact me with any concerns!

Thanks
Cat

I intended to  swim  today but a road closure changed my plan . I opted  instead for a two miler .  After  10 minutes and with the help  of fellow morning runners   ,  my run became a fast  tempo run  good for 4.6 miles .

I am actually  6 miles over my original goal .  So i upped my goal again in the spreadsheet .

I'm feeling like I might be able to run a mile or two tonight....or at least get it done elliptically if it's too tough. (legs don't hurt so much as they just feel "traumatized" from Sunday)

GO MONSTERS!

Hi All,

I'm probably going to be taking Cat up on the goal reduction thing.  Doc diagnosed walking pneumonia yesterday.  I haven't been able to run in nearly a week, and its putting me way behind schedule for my goal.    Feeling better today, though, and hoping to get back to the gym tommorrow.

Many of us raced last weekend ,   how is the recovery going ?

I am over the runners high and feel a need to sleep  some more.  Calves Hammies and quads were a little tight after the race  but  are responding well after i warm em up.   And i cant wait to get out there on a training run

and get ready for the next race.

Post-race recovery's going pretty well here - walked Monday and yesterday (also swam yesterday), rode the trainer this morning....now I think I'm ready for a short run later today.  Definitely itching to get back into serious training mode again (I know, already!) for my next half marathon in January.

Let's go Monsters!
