Has anyone riden the bike course with their garmin? I am interested in the profile of the hills. If I am reading the profile on the official website the steepest grade is 2%. That doesn't sound right. Just curious what the "true" profile is.

I actually think putting the 40-44AG near the end is dangerous as it will create lots of folks passing on the bike leg.  Not sure I like this but I guess I'll have to go with the flow.

There should be a function for elevation when you download your info. Of course it probably depends on what model you have.

think the steepest grade might be 5-6% but not more than tenth mile. Long grades might be 4%. NOt real good with this, but honest, there is nothing very steep, just long grinds. Longest grind is 1.25 miles.

Pete- check out this thread.  One of the Atlanta BT'ers wrote this up regarding the bike course:

Here's my guess on the waves.  Maybe it was done this way to try and prevent bunching up of riders and drafting issues?  I'm good either way and could care less if I start first or last.  I plan to go out and have fun and hang around to cheer others along.

I did the course and there are plenty of long grinders that are more like 4 or 5% grade.  I'll check my training peaks and see if it has the data and post it.  I did have it in my garmin but just cleared my garmin last weekend before a race.

Calm down Rusty, are your bike shorts riding a little high? I think the bike will be fun, I'm just glad I not in some of those waves in front of the m40-44 waves because they're going to be swum over and passed like their standing still on the bike. Not complaining, just a fact.

On the whole I can't wait to come down and race in Augusta, it looks like a fun fast course.

trihardathena - 2009-08-20 3:17 PM Hey Folks...it is with great regret that I will NOT be doing Augusta. Due to some scheduling issues with another race, I am going to have to drop this one from my schedule.. My trainer and I have added the Atlantic Coast Triathlon .. a Half Ironman Distance at Amelia Island a weekend later instead of Augusta. Not an Ironman Branded race but a good test of 70.3 skills. Ill be in Augusta that day to cheer you guys on. If I can help any of you in a support capacity, please let me know!! Ill be staying at the Marriott Melissa
why not do both

Because Im doing Ironman Florida Nov. 7th. And the fact that I am an old chubby woman who can only endure so much!! HAHAHA

As for the beer on the run course, consider it done!!!

Are you in charge of the wave selections? The post race party?

I don't think I ever complained about starting in one of the last waves. It really doesn't matter to me at all. I actually think the slower AGs should go first with the faster ones going last. When they mix up the AGs with the slowest going right in front of one the fastest and largest is when you can run into problems.

I know its a big deal to have an Ironman race in your own back yard, but you can't take everything so personal. We all want the same thing, a fun safe race.

P.S. I'll give you my bib # but I don't know if I can run down a 9:40 IM'er. But I can try!

Then quit wimpering....the race director didn't want to put old slower women and men out there late in heat of day. He said next year its the 30s turn to go last....

how did you post your reply at 6:16am? were you not in the pool next to me at that time?  or was that an impostor?

I think this video is stupid and offensive. I don't know about you but there seems to be a lot of "cyclists" here in Augusta who think that they can just hammer the bike at 24 or 25mh and totally smoke the bike course. To them I say, "Wow you just blew by me on the bike...wow! you are excellent cyclists! You go!..... see you on the run"

Whatever, lol....that included a 1:28 run. Look, not trying to gloat, just too many of the 40 yo's complaining say that they are going to hurt someone on the bike....Not a fact. My swim and run used to be as good as the bike, but that was in times past. Why don't u old farts like me just accept the fact your starting near the end waves.

That reply wasn't meant for you....I was simply stating that it doesn't matter where someone starts, if they race as a "cyclist" (the way most people in Augusta will race from observing the group rides on the weekends) then they will totally be suffering on the run and for those of us (and I include you in this group) who race this as "triathletes" we will should do fine on the 13.1 off the bike and make up for any time the "cyclists" might have gained from hammering it on the bike.

I wish everyone would just quit complaining. If it's not the bike course and all the drafting or the transition area or the start times or the fact that the run is in a "shady" area or the Kricket Krap farm stinks....

That makes no sense at all = if he didn't want to put old slower women and men out there late in the heat of the day why do the 50 and up start at 8:42 - over an hour after the start of the race????  That is exactly what is going to happen.
