Yah that's me in the middle below

Last tumble..really muddy conditions made it challenging to ride & stay upright.

LeahDD - 2009-10-04 6:35 PM My race didn't go so well because of crazy surf conditions.  It would sound whiny if I described why I couldn't do the swim, but if you go over to the California forum and the LA Tri thread and read the posts from today, you will see that it wasn't just me.

I'm sorry the day wasn't better...crazy surf sounds really tough.

Thanks.  But you had quite a day yourself.  Thanks for posting pictures (also, thanks to Kevin for taking them - although one wonders about true love that takes pictures of their beloved taking a splat in the mud!).

Leah and Kathy looks like you 2 had fun races!

Kathy, How was the rain down in Gloucester? We had a few dry spots, but the rain felt good!

Good races.  It is amazing how much rough water can throw you off on the swim.

Had the whole family in the pool today, including the 4 year old, was a blast.  Got in a short 30 minute swim after I kicked them out.  Swimming into the current may be a bit tougher than just swimming laps in a pool.  But then I haven't swum much in the past 2 months either, so we see how it goes.  We had 4 inches of snow on the ground and fluries all day so I just did 5 miles on the dreadmill.

I like the one's of you falling - hope it didn't hurt much, must be better than asphalt, no blood noted.
Happy Anniversary!

Welcome Paul!  I'm glad your class is over and you are ready to run!  I have still not run one mile yet but I am going to bring it strong this week.  Went on a bike ride today to test things out and it seemed to go well.

Leah and Kathy - You both are stars!!

Go RUNNING PUMPKINS!

No blood..just a bit sore on my forearm and shin where I landed. When I fall in cross I usually laugh because it is a weird sometimes slow fall that there is nothing you can do...it is usually soft ground as most of the race is on grass, sand, dirt so it doesn't hurt to much but it can. I once landed on the quick release of my rear wheel I had a nice dent in my muscle for a few months.

Got my long run for the week out of the waydone this morning. Got a little mixed up on my route, so went a little longer than planned - 13.3 miles today.

Ran in new shoes today..... may prove to be a bad move. These shoes are a little wider mid-foot & in the toe box than my old shoes, and allowed my foot to slide forward some. I have a bruised toenail, and think I'll probably loose it eventually . I guess these shoes will be retired from running....

Anyone have a training plan, run specific, for a dog? Went on a 2.42 loop today and was feeling pretty good, except my dog wasn't. Oh well trial and error right. I will keep her to my short loop around my house.

Hi gang,
I start the challenge in earnest today with a 30 min run/walk and swim along with strength training on my legs. In addition to the usual gym routine, I managed to get in some extra walking on the way to work just by leaving a little earlier. Made some good nutritional choices too and I'm on my way to drinking a full two-liter of water (well, 20 oz x 3 during the work day).

Speaking of pumpkins, I'm also on the prowl for lowfat, high performance vegan pumpkin stews I can make in a crockpot. I've been pretty successful in finding them on Google, but if any of you happen to have something in a similar vein, let me know!
Let's put the "pump" in pumpkin today, gang!

Great job getting started, and welcome to the challenge!  Can't say I know of any good vegan pumpkin stew recipes, but if you find a good one let us know because it sounds like a great fall meal.

Yes welcome to the challenge.  I wish I could bike/run to work, but I am always dropping off or picking up kids or whatever, so it just doesn't work for me.

I am at 26 miles for the month so far with a longish run planned for Saturday (13-14 miles).  Hoping the snow melts and the ground dries so I can do it without my feet getting soggy.

My dog hides under my wife's chair and shakes when he sees me in shorts.  He is only good for about 2-3 miles, but once he joined me on an 8 mile run (single loop) and well has never wanted to run with me since.  He joined my wife on a couch to 5k program and he has been doing alright with that, but she said he was lagging on her last jog of nearly 3 miles.  He is a silly wimp dog.

Swim planned for tonight.  Lets see the adult lap swim time is.. oh yah whenever I want it to be 8).

Yes, I would also be interested in your pumpkin stew.  Doesn't necessarily have to be vegan, but it is OK if it is.  Keep us posted.

Ran yesterday longest since IM ha only 3.3 miles & felt good then walked so just over 50'. I counting both run and walk time this month for the challenge.

I've caught a cold and tend to have them drag out long time as I have asthma.

Hope to go for a ride soon and go for a walk or short run/walk later. Busy kid soccer night.

We are a quiet group here. Feel free to go ahead and post silly things here. Have you all seen some of the other groups are up to 81 pages? I was on one of those challenge teams once and it was hard to keep up. Do whatever but lets keep up with the challenge!

Good luck with your race, Mav!

Today is mostly a recovery day for me - no running, just an easy spin on the trainer. Laundry and assorted other housework are on the training schedule for today.....
