I got a couple questions.

1 - Is this too much for first swim? 1000 meters (my pool only has 25 meter pool vs yards) - warm up 2x50, main set (4 times each): one arm drill - 1x25, catch up - 1x25; Core (3 times): 8x25; warm down - 4x25 easy. OR    800 meters - WU 2x50; MS (4 times each) 1x25 Catch up, 1x25 Streamline kicking; Core: 8x50 frestyle swim; WD - 1x100 easy.   I'm thinking about doing the 800 meter one, and just kind of go with the flow. Maybe cut the drills to 2 times each.

I will not be focusing on speed or anything, just seeing where I'm at.  If I feel it's too hard, then I'll have to cut back. If I feel it's too easy, I can just add a bit. I just don't know what to expect until I'm in the pool. I'm just not too sure about doing drills for first swim, hence why I'm asking you guys.

2 - Because my pool is 25 meters, so should I set my training logs to meters? That kind of throws off when I see everyone else's logs when they go by yardage.  My understanding is there's more "yards" in a meter. So, basically does it really matter the difference? Should I keep it at meters because that's my pool size?

3 - Is there a website or something that can explain all the BT terminology for Strength Training? I see "Prone Planks" - but what's the difference between that and "planks", or what the heck are the different exercises since they're different from what I see online/books.  Or should I just add my own terminology to something that *I* know what it means?

Your swim plan looks good. When I do drills I like to use swim fins.
A 25 meter pool is longer than a 25 yard pool.

Not sure about the weight lifting, I will let your know if I find anything.

1.  I would stick to that plan.  That's a great start, especially to see where you are at.

2.  I would just pretend like it's a 25 yard pool and log it as such.  If you end up getting competitive, you can always adjust your times to equal yards.  But for all intents and purposes, 25 meters is only a stroke or two past 25 yards.  So you'll just be a bit ahead of your training.  Not too much.

3.  Prone planks are the same as planks as far as I know.

Howdy y'all,
I'm back at it. I'm finally back in the city (YAY!) and able to get to a gym/pool. Things are starting up for me partially this week (free swims) and a bit more next week once classes start at the University (Couch to 5K running and strength training) and in earnest on the 14th (swimming lessons with the intermediate group).

I'm using Podrunner: Intervals for the Couch to 5K Training so that should be cool.

Headed to Atlanta tomorrow am to Chic Fil A bowl.  Meeting some buddies I grew up with that went to Va. Tech.  Should be a good game between Tech and Tennessee Thursday night.  Only one bike and one swim this week because of travel but should be able to get 3-4 more runs in.  Feeling guilty about limited bike workouts.  Tempted to get up early tomorrow and get the 20 miles in that I need to reach 300 this month.  Not in my training plan but I do like to see good numbers in my logs.  Oh well, guess I will see how I feel tomorrow morning at 4:30-odds are I will feel like sleeping rather than riding.  Riding is a big underdog to sleeping right now!

Hoping to get some sort of ok to start training again (at least modified) tomorrow or Thurs.  Just waiting on results of MRI on shoulder.  M.D. is thinking "impingement." It feels quite a bit better, just not "right".  Looking forward to and nervous about the restart of training all at the same timeTongue out.

Have a happy and safe New Year's!

Glad to hear the shoulder is improved.  Take it easy when you start back training.  Too much too soon usually aggravates the problem.  Enjoy the training, the volume and intensity will come later.

For those keeping score at home-sleep was a blowout winner over biking this morning! Have a good day everyone.

Hey everyone!  I have been consistent doing what I can do while the kids are on break.  No swims as the pool at our gym isn't even 25 yards.  Too much turning :-).  When the kids head back to school next week, I will be in the pool.

My asthma has been pretty bad lately.  Just went ot the doc and did horribly on sperometry (sp?) test, so back on steroids to open me up.  Hoping that does the trick.  My NP asked how I was doing anything aand I said, everything I have done this past year has been at less that 100% so, I am used to it.  It would be nice to get back there, so keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Okay...so does anyone know of a correlation between weather patterns and sleeping patterns?  It has been very cold out with zero rain/snow for two days.  The past two nights I haven't been able to sleep at all.  I have been up every thirty minutes or so.  My fatigue increases dramatically with poor sleep and it's driving me nuts!! (not to mention my girlfriend)

Hey, does anyone have a newer fizik saddle with the ICS slot in the back for accessories?  I have one of those clip-in saddle bags that I had planned on using, but the fizik saddles didn't work for me and it needs a new home.  The thing is brand new.

Could it have to do with the less sun light? Cabin fever?
I know I over slept this monring, didn't get up till 5. Good thing I didn't have to take the kids to school so still had time for a workout.

Wonder if the sleep issue is related to barometric pressure or some such issue? I know that I sleep much better if it's raining, snowing, etc.

YEAH!  Exactly...same here.  I'm gonna look into that  because it's really annoying.  I think it may also have to do with the full moon.

Second the dry air theory.  Maybe one of those room-sized humidifiers would make a difference, plus there would be some white noise.

Funny, both my husband and I have been having difficulty sleeping as well....til about 15 minutes before it is time to get up, then we are zonked!  I was thinking it was related to the post-holiday letdown and trying to settle back in to a normal schedule, but maybe there's more to it...the dryness is definitely an annoying factor for me.

(still no word on my shoulder mri, maybe tomorrow.)

Yeah...this is true.  I did put a humidifier in the room.  Maybe it's too small for the room itself, but it's right next to my bed.  The white noise helps a lot too.  I'm just a light sleeper.  Last night I felt better...

What's everyone doing for New Years Eve? Staying home?  Going to a party? Dinner out?
We've got a party to go to but it will be an early evening for me, can't stay up late like I used to.

Stay in with the kids and have a game night. Take turns picking games until 12, then go to bed.

Happy Ney Year!

We have friends coming in from Iowa.  Going to our gym for a kids night and then round out the night at home.  I usually can't make it to midnight.  Tomorrow, heading to Middleton to possibly do the New Years Day Dash.  If we don't do the run, we will just go to the gym we both used to teach at.

Enjoy the night everyone and be safe!!!!
