I don't know if I should rent/buy and if I should get soft/hard? I would get a hard case. They are not cheap, trisports.com has some. Maybe you know someone that has one you can borrow? |

This ironman stuff is getting expensive. |

LOL! that is first on my list for me and my "fan club" ;-). I also have a question, since I will definately be running into the night, how dark is out there? do they give us the glow stick and should I also bring a light? I have this horrible vision of not seeing a pot hole and twisting my ankle...which is not hard to do for me...Oh that would just be a nightmare!!!! Thanks for any more info u can give us!...looks like "Ironbaby" is around the corner ;-))))))) |

Veteran 142 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread There's enough light out there, and the road is smooth enough, that I don't think you really need to worry about carrying light. You may want to put one in your special needs bag just in case...but I think you'll be fine without it. Good luck! |

I don't know if I should rent/buy and if I should get soft/hard? Get a soft case- you can possibly get out of paying the overweight limit. My bike weighed 35 lbs when I checked it- and that was with a ton of bubble wrap and packing paper packed in the case. Granted mine is full carbon adn a 48cm frame, but still. Jon's big heavy Giant road bike was under the 50 lbs as well which was awesome. I am telling you- soft case is the way to go!! Our bike cases were awesome and Jon carried both of our bikes- one on each shoulder! This is the brand we used- the cases are extremely durable and our bikes were A-OK. These cases are awesome and definitely worth the money! Google them to read all the GREAT reviews! http://pikapackworks.com/ Edited by runnergirl 2010-09-07 9:34 AM |

New user 9 Colorado | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Interesting info on the soft bike case. I need to get a bike case as well. What are people planning to wear for the swim in light of the new WTC rules? Seems like a few companies have produced "speedsuits" that are WTC-legal, but if they are textile-only, not sure if they will help at all. I am a weaker swimmer, so if there is a legal suit out there that might help me out, I'm inclined to get it. |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread I did about 1 mile OWS yesterday and there was a bit of a storm rolling around. Every few minutes a big set would come by and roll me if I was in mid stroke. I also saw one decent sized fish, but he was too far for me to figure out what he was. |

I'm a weak swimmer also and was just planning on wearing a one-piece tri suit if I can find one that fits well. If not then I am also thinking about doing the same thing as fireman and changing at each transition. Then I would just wear swim shorts, cycling bib & shirt, and then my daisy duke running shorts and tank top. |

My hotel's all-inclusive, but I wouldn't mind venturing out if there's a good spot to hit up the day or two before the race. |

So....Although we are staying at an all-inclusive. My wife and I plan on getting out and about on the mainland the week after the race. Also, planning on going for a dive after the race. Any dive shops that run dive and snorkeling trips at the same time so my wife, and daughter can snorkel while I dive? |

New user 9 Colorado | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Scubatony: Welcome! How great to have your first IM at home. Here's my biggest advice for your first IM - soak it all up and enjoy! I second the request for restaurant recommendations. We're staying at the Presidente Intercontinental. I am now investing a small fortune in swim lessons. Luckily, I live close to Boulder, and it's fairly easy to find pros willing to give AGers a swim lesson for a little cash. Back on the bike case question, does anyone have a Aerus Biospeed? It's another soft case that gets good reviews. I'm interested in trying to avoid the oversize baggage fee and getting something that will fit into a rental car. Anyone else coming from a colder climate? We're having a heat wave right now in Denver, but the cold weather is sure to come eventually. Worried I am going to lose my heat acclimatization before the race. We're not arriving until Fri, so arriving early to acclimate isn't an option. |

Member 8 Toronto, Canada | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Hello Iron-gang!! This is Alex from Toronto Canada where fall is in the air already. I did get a chance to read some of the pages previous to this post and last years' race reports. All I have to say is thank you for the advise and for sharing the experience. I used to live in Cancun back in the late 90's and I used to see the 70.3 being held right on the hotel strip! Who would have guessed that I was going to race an Ironman just across the ocean in Cozumel 10 years later. That is the power of triathlon! I know is late to recommend accommodation for anyone but if it helps, we got a $400.00 deal for my wife and I for 4 nights at the Wyndham Cozumel (5 mins away from the swimstart) through e-bay. It is a condo rental with kitchenette and won't need to deal with time-share people because we will visit as "owners" of the unit. Let me know if you need assistance with a similar deal. The clock keeps ticking and the waves are waiting... Talk to you soon. Alex |
