It's supposed to be in the low 60s. Absolutely not! Sorry, I thought we were only talking about after the swim. LOL, I will definitely be in my full wetsuit with a neoprene cap and probably be wearing my booties as well for that swim. |

Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread KathyG - 2010-05-07 10:30 AM Race is Sunday!!! Weather will be sunny but chilly...real feel of 45-47 at race time. What are all you going to wear after your wetsuit in the swim? I've done an Oly when it was 50 and raining...put on a jacket in T1 and my feet were numb long into the run. I'm thinking tight fitting cycling jacket or wind vest and probably need to put on socks as well. Are we going to meet up anywhere? In in the white cap wave. I don't have a cycling jacket, but a decent one that's more fitted I wear for running - that'll probably do it. It's going to be cold and windy, otherwise I might just wear my warmer short-sleeved jersey. As for the feet - I think I might even go with my lighter snowboarding socks after how long it took my toes to warm up last year (maybe halfway thru the bike?), especially since it's going to be a few degrees colder. |

Extreme Veteran 378 Warwick, Rhode Island | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread Ahh...unreal weather for the last two weeks and then windy/cold tomorrow. Just epic! I am probably going to put a jersey on over my trisuit in T1 but that will be it. I used to surf all the way through the winter in my younger days so I am going to wearthe fullsuit without booties or neoprene cap...we'll see how that mistake plays out. I will be racing clyde tomorrow. Should be wearing a blue Zoot top with black shorts -- generally never seen in transition without a redsox pullover on (not that I will be the only one wearing THAT tomorrow) or a SPEAKER CITY tee-shirt. Say hi if you see me as I do not know that many BT folks...looking forward to tomorrow. Vin |

Looks like I am in the white cap group too. Definitely planning on an extra layer in T1 - probably cycling jacket. Maybe something lighter for the run. See you all there! |

Master 1641 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread I love this race, cold and all, for kicking off the season. I love seeing Kathy G and other BT'ers out there in the Athena wave. :-) It's also a team focus race for Wheelworks Multisport, so I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of black/green on the course. Hope my feet don't hate me too much for walking miles in NYC in sandals yesterday...also hope that the weather doesn't get too crap-tastic for staying warm on the bike after that fun, short, and chilly swim! Here's to tri'ing in 2010... Cheers, -Sunny |

When I checked in to register I opted to switch to the du and am glad I did. Very windy out there on the course on s/b/r. Fun to see lots of BTers! |

There was a lot of chop on the water. When I checked in to register I opted to switch to the du and am glad I did. Very windy out there on the course on s/b/r. Fun to see lots of BTers! First Season Opener. Very interesting. I was in the white cap wave & we treaded water for a LONG time before being pulled out of the water. Although I heard the swim was not fun, I would have preferred to swim rather than tread to get some blood flowing. I was at the turnaround in the run before I felt my feet. Anyone know how long we were in the water waiting? There was a couple of groups of rescue vehicles coming in as I headed out on the bike - was anyone really hurt? |

Maybe it was better I didn't have to fight the waves. If YOU said it was not a cakewalk I can only imagine how weaker swimmers fared. Edited by cazprov 2010-05-09 3:01 PM |

Veteran 124 Outside Boston | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread I don't think anyone was hurt. The rescue vehicles that came in the park through the back were dealing with the boat issues. I was in white cap group too. My husband said we were in the water 5-10 minutes. Reading last year's race reports sounds like it was similar condition with the wind and the delay. I wish they had cancelled the swim earlier and made everything a Du. I was a DNF. My chain broke about 2 miles into the bike. Very disappointing day. Right now my next race is the SheRox in July at Webster Lake, but may do something earlier based on today's crappy performance. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread My fear was something really bad had happened when I saw all the emergency vehicles coming to the park from different directions as I was out on the bike. When I was running along the burm between the two lakes I saw an official checking the water and my fear was they were looking for someone then I saw the flipped over boat with stuff floating in the water. I saw one guy with road rash probably from crashing on the bike. I do wonder if what happened last Season Opener (swim canceled) and this one will effect the park from being used in the future for tris. |

When I turned in my chip, one of the firefighters was talking to Tim and the two of them were heading to talk to the "chief." That can't be good for the future of this race. Janine |

Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread I was poorly situated on the swim and got stuck behind a wall of folks who would take two strokes and stop since we kept getting pushed by big waves and were not sure how far off course each one put us. I barely put four strokes together a couple times time during the swim. It was crazy, but swimmable, but only a handful of people were actually doing continuous swimming. The chop was like ocean swimming, including the part where it churned up all the plant life and if you breathed wrong and got a mouthful, or choked on the spray (yes, there was considerable spray off the waves that didn't even make stopping entirely pleasant!) you got a mouthful of grassy weeds. It was nice... it definitely took your mind off your feet being in 62 degree water. I was very impressed when the one non-wetsuit girl in my wave passed me on the bike. More power to her crazy self! I woulda high-fived her if my legs weren't so dead from treading water for the entire swim and I could catch up. Edited by running4beer 2010-05-09 6:04 PM |

Expert 1099 Bedford, NH | Subject: RE: New England Season Opener : Official Thread Yeah that was definitely an interesting swim. It really felt like swimming in the ocean. I took in a few nice mouthfuls. I was pretty happy with my swim, but during the swim I was aiming to the right of the buoy a little bit to try to compensate for the current. However, one time I spotted and I was over slightly to the right side of the buoy. At first I figured I must have swam off to the right, but after the race and talking to some people, I figured out the buoy must have moved with the current. That wind was no joke on the bike or the run either! I was a little disappointed with my results, but I really liked the tougher conditions. I hope this event isn't going anywhere. |

The wind was unbelievable - running over the path at the end I was really being pushed to the side. Interesting. I met my goal of finishing. We in the white caps could see the buoys moving as we stood there waiting. |
