mndymond - 2010-04-15 8:06 PM So...

Go to put the computer together and get pretty far...then realise I have bladed spokes and the magnet doesn't fit...damnit...now I have to go back and get a magnet that will work on bladed spokes...:/

Wait till you get older.  I went to put my bike computer on in January and had to use reading glasses for the first time to read the ultra small print.  When I stood up, I felt like I was spinning and lost my balance a couple times.  Haven't used them since.

Last year I did not do a very good job at shifting and I would trash my legs.

This year, since I have several running events, I have paid more attention to it. It took some experimentation, but I have found which gears work best for me, and when.

Small changes in shifting has made a 2-3 mph difference for me.

Do tell about these small shifting changes.  I just got my forst road bike in January and I'm working on shifting at the right time.

As a Ghoulie mentee, I started lurking here this week.  I should be able to hit one iron man challenge this month now that I won't be out of the country for a week.

What do you do for a living? And where were you headed (before plans changed and you got to stay home)?

I am doing my best to NOT lurk, but it's kinda hard when all the ret of the Gouhlies are asleep when I'm awake. That's what I get for working extra shifts this week, huh? It messes with my schedule...alot.

mndymond - 2010-04-15 9:06 PM So...

Went to bike store to get bike computer and aero water bottle...got both...

Go to put the computer together and get pretty far...then realise I have bladed spokes and the magnet doesn't fit...damnit...now I have to go back and get a magnet that will work on bladed spokes...:/

Then I just got discouraged and didn't want to fiddle with my biek anymore tonight...sigh...so haven't tried to mount my bottle yet...

After the cute guy is done pumping up Stacie's tires should we have him come work on your bike?

ceilidh - 2010-04-15 2:07 PM This is my long weekend starting tonight!!!!
So I may be scarce this weekend. Lots of yard work still calling my name. I hope to get a real live road bike in. We'll see how the tourist traffic is before writing that in concrete.

Have wonderful rest of the days, Ghoulies.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Mine started already too but not for good reasons.  One of my good friend's dad lost his fight with cancer.  Wake was tonight, funeral tomorrow

Sorry to hear this Neal. Ghoulie love your way!

I still need to work on WHEN to shift. I do know now not to try it when I'm out of the saddle.

I have been working on which gear works best for me. Finding where I can be to get the most speed without shredding my legs. It is different on my tri bike than it is on my roadie. It just took several rides and a lot of miles to find what worked for me. Keep riding and practicing, you'll find it, too.

Morning Anne, and other Ghoulies that may be out.
This is my morning check in to put the "out of office" note on my e-mail. The chores are backing up on me. I'll try to check in later.

Anne, shifting is one of my downfalls. I never seem to get into the correct gear going up hill. I end up losing all steam by being in the wrong gear. Then I have to work way too hard to keep on going.

Good morning Robin

I think you just need to practice. Put your bike in your car and head north, there are lots of hills in PA. I'll map out a route to Stacie's and by biking from my house to hers I think we can get the shifting worked out for you.

What do you think?

I'm an electrical engineer and manage a group of developers.  We have a partner in Brazil and I've been going there every few months to help coordinate things.  It's fun to visit but throws a wrinkle in to home life and training so I'm happy I didn't go this time.

Hey Neal!

Question for you.

Do you know the name of the German triathlete who carried his water bottle in his speedo?

I can't think of it to save my life.

Morning Ghoulies! Still have my stiff neck and am thinking it is due to my new pillow It is one of the memory foam ones and I spent more $ then I normally would! Old Navy is having a sale so I am heading there with some friends, not sure what if any training I will get done, kinda feel like a rest day to me Might get some stretching in, my hips have been very tight. Tomorrow I will be doing a group ride, and Sunday we are having my sons birthday party. His birthday is on the 24th but we have our tri that weekend.  Have a good day all! Will try to check in later!

That would get me in "gear" for sure. Especially if we ended up at the cute guy bar for a margarita!
