Training is going alright for me too.  Hoping to get into some organized OWS starting this week.  Not much OWS opportunities in central Indiana, so I have to search to the ends of the earth for any OWS.  Geesh!  Did 51 miles last Sunday and felt pretty good until I went for my run after.  I definetely need to work on my nutrition on the bike so I wont bonk on the run.

Hope everyone's training is going well.

My training is going less than ideal. Swimming is getting much better and have a sweet new Blue Seventy wetsuit being mailed to me. Biking is getting better, except for the horrible weather we have had. But this year my IT bands have been nagging me for some reason, So I've been doing hardly any running and am having to take about a month off.  Running is has always been my best leg of the race by far but it still worries me quit a bit.  Hopefully some trips to the physical therapist will help..... Otherwise the run is going to be a slow and painful affair.

Hope everyone else's  training is going better than my running.

Any course rides planned any weekend from here until the actual race?  I'm interested in joining (I only go about 19mph, tho).

I'm in Chicago (Bucktown to be exact) and have room in my car for two people (and their bikes, of course) if anyone wants to set anything up.

I'll add to the list of people that can take another person with me for a training ride. Schedule is spotty at best right now but any weekend is possible (except this one, I have Leons tri this Sunday)

I am doing the Grand Rapids Tri 70.3 on Sunday. The longest I have run is 9.5, knee is giving me issues. Rode the course and have actually done one open swim. Hoping to have fun and enjoy it as training for Racine. Water temp is currently 64 degrees!

Trying to stay calm until Sunday!

I guess you'd call this a course question for those of you who have done Racine in the past.  I've been thinking about the swim lately.  Because we swim North to South in the morning (I think), I suspect the sun coming up over the water will create quite a blind eye.  I traditionally breathe to my left (ie would be looking straight into the sun).  I guess I am wondering if most people end up breathing to the right/shore-side to avoid that irritation as well as the added benefit of using the land for reference?  Or whether tinted goggles and a little HTFU allows one to breathe to the left and into that sun?  Just interested in hearing people's thoughts.

Also, is the run course an out and back that is done twice so you essentially run the same ground 4 times?  That's kind of neat so you can watch the fast people blow by you from virtually every direction .  Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this race and hope to meet/see many of you out there.  Hope everyone's training is going well.

I would wear tinted goggles. It was cloudy last year so not an issue. I did a 70.3 on Sunday and the 2nd half of the swim I looked directly into the sun, went off course of course! I usually only breathed to the right so I could see the shore and the lifeguards, my best friends at that point.

The run course you do twice. You can see your fans a lot then! Compared to the course I did this weekend, Racine is nice and smooth, barely any hills. The GR Tri 70.3 was almost all hills on the run. The first 3 miles is beautiful along the shore and up the hill, great inspiration!

Hope everyone's training is going well. My time this weekend was only 30 seconds slower then Racine!

Keep on rolling triathletes!

I'm late getting in on this thread!  This will be my second year at this race.  It's a great course; anyone with doubts about whether or not to do it as a first 70.3, rest assured that it's a great first HIM option!

While I still need to go back to catch up on what's happening in this thread, are there talks about a BT meeting (dinner) on Saturday night? I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of you and seeing you all again!

I'm staying at the Marriott Sat and Sun nights.

So, dumb question, but how hilly is Racine?  I know I'm good for the distance, but I have been riding mostly flats. I have seen the route map but not the elevation.  Is it worse than Madison, same, or less? (Can you tell I'm nervous about the hills? haha)

Also, if people from the Chicago area is heading up to ride (I'm a slowpoke) in the next couple of weekends, I might be interested in going too.  I have the Tour de Cure this weekend but any after would probably work!

If you've been riding mostly flats Racine will fit you well...pretty much pancake flat.

Racine is very flat on the bike! Good for me, I hate hills. They say it is a fast course, at that distance I am all about just finishing, don't know about you guys. I was happy that I finished the GR Tri on Sunday only 30 seconds slower then Racine, and the run course in GR was a lot tougher.

Great weather for training in GR this week!

If not raining, this Sunday (6/12) I will be riding about 40-45 miles of the Racine course if anyone would like to join me.  Plan is to get my butt rolling on the bike around 8-8:30am with a pace somewhere around 17-18 mph.
