Sorry to hear about your ankle, I have had numerous ankle problems myself so I can sympathize.

The upside is you should have plenty of time to practice your swimming while you heal so we all expect to hear about big improvements in the pool over the next couple weeks. Laughing

Heal quickly and good luck in your Oly!

First entry of doing something.Tried useing an endless pool on the cruise ship we were on last week. I did get some swimming tips from a couple of guys, hopefuly they will help.

Even though the machine went at 5 min.  segments, if you stopped the "old- retired" people would push thro and try it for a couple seconds, then stand in the way before you could  get back into it. Which the way I swim now I guess thats a good thing.

Based on this very limited time "swimming" I think I might have a chance at this. Now if the roads can get deiced I can get on the bike again.

I found out yesterday my registration was selected in the Bjorklund 1\2 mary lottery. GrandMas 1\2. 6\16\12 here we come. I'll pick my first Tri date after then . Aug. sometime I beleave.     Good training everyone.

You go away for vacation and you miss a lot.  Awesome to see the accomplishments of everyone over the past 2 weeks.  Scott, congrats on your tri.  You can look back on it now and see areas you can improve and it will make a huge difference in your future races.

I just spent the past 5 days with the mouse at Disney.  My wife completed her very first half marathon last Sunday completing the Princess Half Marathon.  It was awesome to be there cheering her on.  There were over 20,000 runners (mostly women...but plenty of men running too).  Amazing to be on the spectator side and watch.  I am so proud of her.  On Saturday, the family did the 5K through Epcot.  That was a lot of fun.  I ran it with my 8 year-old daughter.  We finished in 37:37.  That included 2 stops for pictures with characters and a bathroom break.  Overall it was a great time.

Everyone have a great weekend.  Anyone racing?

Scott,

Way to go!  Nice job.  You indicated that it was a reverse, how did your legs feel in the swim?

Cam,

I was cramping a little on the bike but I was able to work out the cramps running from transition to the pool.  Overall it was pretty good and nice finishing in the cool pool.

OK, so my second Tri is in the books.  I guess I can start calling myself a triathlete.

I finished the Desert International Sprint yesterday.

It was a good race, beautiful weather, a lot of fun.  For me this was a good learning experience doing the Tri in its intended order.

Glad I have been doing Brick training because running off the bike was a lot easier yesterday than during the first few training runs.

Finished in 1:24:26

Now its back to some serious training, I'm thinking of stepping up to the Oly in Wildflower.

Got my first bike ride in today in quite some time (have been doing rides on stationary bikes in hotels during my travels).  Went just shy of 11 miles riding with Chick and another friend, Steve.  My legs had little strength, but it was great to ride in the clipless pedals and experience the difference that makes.  Averaged 15.7 mph today; looking to move that average up to 19 for races this season.  Overall, a pretty good day!

Got in an early morning run of 5.25 this morning. Felt really good. Karate tonight so I'll get a good stretch tonight after sitting behind the desk today. I love the feeling I have after a morning workout, things are so much more clear the rest of the day.

I totally agree.  Morning workouts are a great way to start your day.

I have my first race of the season coming up this weekend.  I feel that I have made so much progress this off season.  This week I am trying to ensure that I place realistic expectations upon myself.

Ken,

Good luck this weekend, what race are you doing?

I signed up for the Oly at Wildflower, according to what I read there is a lot of climbing so I am going to have to spend some serious time on the bike over the next 2 months.

So for me training is back in full swing.

Rode 43 miles with a cycling group in the desert Sunday morning, it was a good ride albeit a little rough after the Tri on Saturday.  The ride included a 1500 foot climb up Hwy 74 toward Idylwild which was tough on sore legs.

The amazing part was that the overall winner of the Desert Sprint showed up to join the ride, he was a great guy, really humble and didn't seem a bit fatigued even after having completed the race in 1 hour flat the previous day.  Motivates me to train more!

Tonight I was a little sore so I got in a short Brick 10 miles on the bike at 19 mph average, then a quick 2 miles at a little better than 7 minute pace.  I'm using these short workouts to increase my speed off the bike.

Anyone have any good tips for increasing run speed coming off the bike, I am hesitant to run too fast and blow out completely.

Looking forward to the race report Ken.

Excited for daylight savings time. That means more time for the bike.

How is everyone doing? Tri season has arrived and great to see and hear of the races so far.

Keep up the great training.

Not really happy with performance but it wasn't a total wash.  Last year I walked most of the swim but this year I actually swam the entire swim.

The event itself was great.  It was a really nice way to start my Tri season.  I posted my race report in case anyone wants to read.

Alright so its official, CrossFit kicked my A%#.  So I had to take yesterday as a light training, swam 500 meters and called it done.  It sucks when it hurts too much to swim.

Today was a bike day 18 miles, headwinds all the way back toward home but I am loving daylight savings time, it is nice to get done before the sun is down.

Nice Scott.  I understand about Crossfit.  I have thought about taking a class as well.  It looks like a great time.

Great consistency in your workouts.  Your determination is going to pay dividends.

Thanks Ken,

You should definitely give CrossFit a try, I am still sore in spots that I haven't noticed in months.  It gives a whole body workout that even Tri training isn't hitting.

As far as consistency in my training that is simply because if I stop it is hard to get started again.   I am a little afraid of the Wildflower course based on what I read so I want to be prepared.

Today was my last "speed run"  before my birthday marathon.  I am feeling confident and really prepared.  It was really nice out and I felt like I could have ran the marathon today.  I feel that I am peaking properly for this.  I actually think that my injury might help.  It actually made me take a couple day easier than normal and also skip a couple of workouts.  My body feel relaxed and ready to go.

Now if I could just quiet the voices in my head.

Well, we have been lucky this March and run into a nice spell of weather.  I have taken advantage of it and been out on my bike for three short rides (20-25 minutes) this week.  It has been a long time since I have been out riding just to ride.  I'm also still getting use to riding a road bike, the aero position isn't as uncomfortable as I was expecting, but I still need more practice.  Currently, I am concentrating on trying to keep my cadence up (right now I'm averaging in the mid to high 70's & 15.5 mph).  I also got a 500 m swim in the pool on Tuesday (16 min), felt good but tired after my first swim.

Signed up for my first Tri on 6/3 at Kueka Lake (Sprint).  I'm planning on following a Joe Friel training plan for the next 12 weeks.  So I have some time to build up my strength and endurance.
