Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This group gives me one more reason to get excited about logging on to BT every morning to log my training. Glad to be a part of it. Now I feel accountable to a group and not just myself to complete my workouts as scheduled. Thanks. This morning's swim was 1600 meters and a mix of free, pull, drills, breast stroke, backstroke, kick and whatever I felt like doing ~ Jen |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't even think about the blisters while I was running. Afterwards, they were not any worse then what I normally get when I run. Now chafing was a different story....I wasn't too bad off but there was a guy where his entire arm was raw from the sleeves of his shirt and another girl took her top off during the run as it was rubbing her raw also. tmoran80 - 2012-04-24 10:26 AM Nice job Kathy on the 1/2 - good idea to keep it easy and not get injured. Those mud trails can be brutal. How did the feet hold up with the wet shoes fro 13.1 miles- any blisters? krazytallchick - 2012-04-23 6:36 PM Today was a rest day for me as all I did was drive back home. The Flying Pirate HM on Sunday was wet....yes, it rained the entire time. The last 3.5 miles were on a dirt road, which with all the rain ended up being muddy and the last .5 was on mulch like ground. You could tell that towards the end my time slowed down as I kept telling myself that injuring myself on this course was not worth it so I slowed down and watched what I was doing. It wasn't my best race but it also wasn't my worse one. When I have a hard workout on the legs, I take a cold bath and soak the legs. Can't do the ice bath so I go with the water as cold as I can stand it. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Way to get up and get that swim in Jenn! Something to make you chuckle on this Tuesday. I know we are still getting to know each other here and haven't gotten to personal yet so I will break the ice. You know how you hear people talk about peeing while on the bike? Well on Sunday during the HM in the rain I felt like I had to go and each time there was a port a potty the lines were long so I was thinking...HUMMMMM it is raining and I have to go do you think anyone would notice?????? This would be great practice for me.
Sorry to disappoint you all but I did not go, nor did I try, I just thought it. The things we think about while training. And I have no desire to go on my bike I will stop and take a break before I do that.
Got my 3000 yard swim in this morning, I was moving slow but I got it done. And I did 1:15 on the trainer as it is COLD here in GA and I was amazed that I was able to keep my RPMs up while my HR low which was what I was working one. Now hopefully I can see this improvement on the road. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tmoran80 - 2012-04-23 5:00 PM Sarah- way to stay dedicated and get that workout in after drinking a bit more than planned. Thanks for explaining the whole run before the bike because I was also curious after Brian questioned that. I have been listening to alot of podcasts from Endurance Nation lately and really like their philosophy. Do you actually interact with a coach or are you just using their plan? Hey Tim! I pay a monthly membership fee and get access to all their training resources, including the coaches. There's a couple places on the forum if we have questions about our training plans for the current/next week and there's another place to post questions about bigger picture training plan. We have each of their phone #s and are open to call anytime. It's also nice that there are a lot of tri and EN veterans on the boards that offer their input and advice as well. It's a lot of info to take in and I'm still getting used to their training philosophy b/c it's so different from what I'm used to. VO2 on the bike this morning and then a short 20 min run. Got side stitches about 5 min into the run so I had to walk for a minute and then got going again. I'm gonna swim later tonight and then I'm off to San Fran tomorrow am until Friday. Tomorrow's a rest day and then I've got long run on Thursday. I ran down the Embarcadero down to the Bay last time I was there. It was a little hectic with all the tourists but was still a good run. Hope everyone has a great day! sarah |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There is always a discussion about peeing on the bike that pops up on the Iron Distance Forum and I have been tempted to start a thread- "Is it ok to pee while on the bike and riding on my trainer in the basement?" Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did my threshold power update test today. I was at 297 watts 5 weeks ago. I am at an unofficial 313 today. Also weighed in at 206, down 22 since Jan. 1 on Paleo. I did a 4.5 mile run yesterday with some blazing cuts. I know 8:40/mile isn't fast for some of you but it is real progress for me. As for Paleo, I keep it really simple. Mixed fruit for breakfast or eggs and bacon or a small steak; salad for lunch with sugar free dressing, and a good supper of lean meat, veggies and a sweet potato generally. Kathy eats what I eat at dinner, but does her own thing otherwise. (She is still battling the willingness monster. I don't say a word.) She is a great cook and we just focus on good meat, sweet potato and a veggie. If I snack, it is on fruit, like grapes or an orange or a banana. I know it doesn't sound exciting and the "no grain or dairy" think was a little hard to get used to. Energy dipped for about 3 days. I was able to do all my workouts, I just felt drained after. But that passed really really fast. I have plenty of energy. Yesterday, I went for a 4.5 mile run, ran it faster than ever including my fastest ever 5K and that was BEFORE breakfast. My body is really getting good as using the available fat stores. I have also played with intermittent fasting. I've gotten in the habit of fasting from after dinner Thursday through my rest day Friday until dinner time. If you goggle it, you'll see a lot of new information on it. It is supposed to tweak the fat-burning. It is working for me. As for that one 3 hour run, I don't know. I think I ran one at the peak. I don't think the extra 30 mins really did a thing mentally or physically. As for Endurance Nation, those guys are solid. I am not a member. (Mind sharing how much that is a month?) But I have used their 4 Keys video (really great and FREE!). It discusses what's important to remember during an IronMan. On the basis of that, I bought their chalk talk on IM Wisconsin and found it really helpful.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() chris316 - 2012-04-24 1:28 PM Did the MHR run today, 185 sound about right? That sounds about right. Just an observation but while looking at your logs I noticed that almost all of your runs are pretty much at you max HR pace so either you are pushing WAY to hard on your regular runs or you didn't push hard enough on your test. Most likely you are running too hard on your runs. Do many on here squat in the gym? I've not for a few weeks so am expecting major soreness the next time I do them, am I best trying to schedule a swim and a rest the following days? I am not a very knowledgeable on weight training but all the lifting I have done has been low weight/high reps so it didn't really affect my training in regards to s/b/r. With your weight lifting background you probably know more than all of us so I would say just go with what you feel is best - but I would suggest to maybe not kill yourself to where you can't walk -haha |

As my insightful wife/manager Kathy said when I mentioned people do that, "How do they stand riding in ammonia after that?" All you need is a rash for a marathon run. Sounds fun! Totally agree. In Branson 70.3 two years ago I stopped 6 times (it was over 100 degrees and I was drinking fluids like crazy). Now I probably drank too much but I just couldn't pizz myself intentionally - and for what? I guess if you are shooting for a Kona slot then that two minutes really means a lot but the difference in me crossing that finish line in X:34:10 to X:38:10 isn't gonna make or break my race. But to each their own- if you feel like pizzing yourself - then pizz away, just look to make sure I am not behind you-haha haha - I guess you can't use the word pi** in this forum. Could definitely take the time to stop and ride more comfortably. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have used the DeSoto Tri Shorts for the past 1-1/2 years and really like them and needed to get a new tri top so I went with the same brand. I ended up getting this - http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/22709.htm. I am kind of worried because I have worked out a few times in it and the bike is ok but on the run I am worried that the fabric is too close to under my arm and might get some chaffing. It has like a mesh fabric around the arm opening instead of just a larger opening Anyone use the Desoto tri-tops? I guess the only way to really know is to do a long run or do my sprint tri with it next month. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great job on getting the hill training done! I am with you I hate being indoors on the trainer and will deal with traffic and gravel as much as I can before heading inside. Did some hill riding this morning (1hr 7 min, 15.4 miles). It was tough, there was too much traffic and tons of gravel and crap along the side of the road but I got it done. It was better than being on a trainer indoors
Completed my swim and strength training this morning. My coach has me doing squats with dumbbells about once a week and I just use a lower weight then what I normally do. The goal is to tax them but also be able to run on them. So you don't want to over do it. Iceman, I wish I can join you for meals. I always have good indications to eat healthy but it never fails I get busy or my husband will want to go out for a fattening dinner. Plus I travel a lot so it gets hard finding healthy foods. I am doing better but I still have some work. Tim, good luck with your new DeSoto tri top. I was trying some tops on yesterday and didn't have much luck. I guess I am going to have to order something on line as I am not finding anything in stores here in Atlanta. |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wanted to get a swim in today before work but just as i was leaving i got assigned the job of fixing my girlfriends car, so only had time to lift some weights in the garage, weather was too bad to run. Am I best doing the bike MHR test on a trainer or on the road, only asking this because there is a lot of stop start with traffic lights etc near me, don't think I will get to a long uninterrupted road for a few weeks.Keep up the good work. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everyone! Finally getting caught up to speed on posts and saw this one...I have a friend who has actually stopped to pee while running- sat on a park bench and went! I have never peed on the bike, but have been told it may be necessary in IM, but the secret (so I have been told) is to go while riding downhill, so you are able to relax. On a side note, I had an eventful morning. I taught my first class, did some work, and decided to head out for my long run before the rain hit. Our campus is in a rather affluent suburb of Milwaukee, and there is a road south of campus that you can easily get eight miles if you run the whole road and all the courts branching out from it. So I went out on my run, got to the turn around, and as I was running, noticed a slower vehicle drive by. I noticed it was an older male, and didn't think anything of it. Then, 3-4 minutes later, he drove by a second time. I thought, ok that was weird. Kept running, and turned down one of the longer side streets. As I was headed back to the main road, the same car drove into the side street I was leaving. At this point, I start to wonder, is this guy following me? The residents of this area can be a little cooky, some act at times like they live in a gated community, and I begin to wonder, is he mad that I am running down his roads? Or that for some odd reason, I am up to no good? So now I am definetely aware of this dude, and continue running, and turn down the last side street. I turn around, and there he is, about to turn to follow me! I immediately ran to the other side of the road and ran back towards the main road, and as I passed him, I yelled at him to stop f-ing following me. He turned on his flashers and started to stop. I took off. There were some lawn care guys working on a house on the main road, so I stopped by them and asked them to watch me run back to campus (by now I was about half a mile away) and told them what was happening. They told me if they saw the guy they would stop him. I thanked them, and literally sprinted back to campus. Once I got back, I emailed the head of our campus safety about what happened. He called me immediately, and said that the workers had called the police, and they got the guy. He was an 87 year old who claimed he used to live in the area and was looking to see how things had changed. Now, I don't believe that for one second. The route he was driving was clearly following my running route. I feel a little silly that he was that old, but you never know! Looking back, I wasn't scared when it happened, I was more pissed off that he was following me, but who knows what could have happened! I usually run with my phone on me, but I left it at work b/c it was going to rain, and plus it's usually a "safe" area. Lesson learned! When training, be aware of your surroundings and either run with someone else, let someone know where you are headed and when you expect to return, and have your phone with you! Sorry for the LOOONG post, but I wanted to share this with everyone. There have been a couple incidents in the past when members of the multisport community here have had people follow them, expose themselves, run them down with their car, etc. You never know! Here's to hoping my luck turns for the better! Jenny krazytallchick - 2012-04-24 11:30 AM Way to get up and get that swim in Jenn! Something to make you chuckle on this Tuesday. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Evening Team. Just checking in - had a long day and just wanted to vent before I go to bed. But before I vent: Tim - Coach uses that brand and I am thinking about ordering some of it. KrazyTall - nice work. Jenn - that is scary, you did the right thing by allerting the lawn guys and great advice for everyone. Chris - I a sure Tim will have an answer to your questions. VENT- was supposed to be my long swim today - I could not go this morning or this afternoon so went this evening. The pool was packed but I got in a lane anyway - got started but for some reason I just did not have it tonight. I am not sure if it was the fact there were a lot of people or what the hell was going on in my head - but I just packed my stuff and came home. A bit disapointed in myself but I will try to make it up Friday. Have a good night team. KC Edited by kcgolf 2012-04-25 9:07 PM |
