Veteran 360 Waukegan, IL | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Meulen - 2013-01-24 9:02 AM I've got a tough pyramid swim and a Kettle Bell workout tonight, then can look forward to a rest day. Saturday will be my toughest day this week. I've got to try and fit in a swim, bike, and a run for a total of 3:15 hours. I have to fit that in somewhere between taking my dog to the vet, going to the hardware store, and starting my basement pain cave project! Holy long workout! Good luck! Looks like it'll be a good training session. |

Congrats on the new ride! Road bike?
Just finished my 8 mile fast pace run. Pretty happy with this run especially with slick, snowy sidewalks and chilly air (although nothing like you have in up north!). Tomorrow AM is short, easy run and PM is 2000m straight swim with focus on maintaining form past 1200. Edited by The Chupacabra 2013-01-24 6:58 PM |

Veteran 720 Aurora, Illinois | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Nope open entry. However, top 3 qualify for Maui so that's the goal! Plus, i did it 2 Yeats ago and its a really fun course. Some very technical spots on the bike and fun run.I think they changed the course last year, but should still be fun. I think this one and the one a month later in downtown richmond va are 2 of the funnest courses. Wanna go?! |

It's a thought! But not sure I want to go all the way down there. I probably have no chance to qualify for Maui, so it's a lot of traveling for just a different venue. I'll keep it in mind though. |

1 | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Hi! Decided this was the year to give the triathlon a try and registered for Xterra Beaver Creek Championship in July. I'm 50 and love to mountain bike and trail run. I've got great endurance but I need to work on speed. I've been swimming with a competitive Master's group since last June and now feel like I'm ready to start training in earnest. I'd love to join your group to get ideas for training plans for this kind on event. I train daily, but I'm pretty clueless about what I should be doing at this point in the season. Any ideas? Laura |

Hi Laura! Welcome to the group. What does your training look like now? I heard Beaver Creek is a good race! Working with the Master's club will get your swim going, so good job on that. Do you have any local bike / run clubs you can join to help the motivation going? |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Welcome, Laura! Regular swimming helps a ton and having someone provide a variety in the swim takes the guess work out of it. I swim with a swim team and it's crazy tough, but it's really developed my confidence. I may still be one of the slowest, but I feel confident in open water. Find a local bike group on FB to like, if you're on it, or ask your local bike shop about any you could join. Great training, guys! I'm at the couple's retreat, but got in a 5 mile run on the treadmill at the finess center a 5am before anyone woke up. Enjoy your weekend! |

Veteran 360 Waukegan, IL | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Welcome, Laura! Glad to have you around! Did my long run today. Had to convince myself to hold a pace that felt slow, and it worked! I couldn't get the nutrition and water I needed due to the temperature though. My water started turning to ice, so I had to set it down, recover it 2 miles later, drink some, then throw it in a dumpster. I did the last 6.5 miles without water. I was feeling very good until that happened. Other than one cold hand (the other stayed very warm...interesting), no other issues! Recover tomorrow is with some swim drills and easy spin at the gym. The weather might change that though... Happy training everyone! |

I did get up late but rushed out the house and got to the gym in time to get in my 1:20 swim before spin class. We are doing spinervals in spin class. I stayed late and put in 1:45 in total. Then hit the treadmill for a 15 minute transition brick run. All in time to get my doggie to the vet! Now I'm home an gotta get some house work done and work on my basement project! Now that I look at all that I'm pretty worried about tomorrow too. Btw... All of today's workouts was done only with water! All I had for breakfast was a banana with peanut butter and chocolate almond butter! I didn't worry about power numbers today though. Just went by HR and got through the workouts NP |

Elite 3515 Romeoville, Il | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Chupacabra, legs felt great throughout the whole day yesterday. No rest today either. 2:40 on the trainer. 3x40' @80% FTP. This workout has been breaking my spirit lately! I haven't been able t complete it. Tonight was my closest attempt. I nailed the 1st and 2nd, and made it 30' through the 3rd. Also got some running around for the new pain cave done and ordered some supplies. Even had time to take the wife to breakfast and take my dog to Starbucks for a puppy latte. No worries Tony! I'm still rock solid on the diet and was good. Weigh in was 169 this morning. |

Elite 3515 Romeoville, Il | Subject: RE: Tony's Xterra & Short Course Tri Group - OPEN Lol! Yes puppy latte! It's just a cup with whipped cream. You have to ask for it. It's not on the menu but most Starbucks do it. My dog loves it, and the barista loves giving it to her through the drive thru window. I wish I could go to bed early tonight but still have to make some lunch items for the week. Oh..... And dinner! 9:45 and haven't eaten dinner yet. Busy weekend! |

I'm doing the Wisconsin Marathon on May 4th. It'll be my first marathon. It's two weeks before Fort Custer, so I'm trying to maintain as much swim fitness as possible with 3 swims a week. I'm not focusing on the bike so much with one short recovery spin (from the long run) and one longer spin worked into my schedule. It'll also put me in a good spot for my final race of the season: Xterra Marquette Epic. Looks like the HIM of Xterra. |
