Regular 273 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread +1 on 700x23 Conti GP4000 II. It's been my exclusive tire for 2+ years. Not only a good race tire, but extremely durable (zero flats in 2 years). I raced Galveston 70.3 and just signed up for Buffalo Springs 70.3 in late June, I felt I had some unfinished business with that one (was my first, and worst, 70.3). I just didn't want my next race to be IMLou. |

The Giro AA is an aero road helmet, it is not a true TT helmet. While helmets test differently on different people, the Giro AA typically does not test as well (aerodynamically) as true TT helmets. There's been a lot of discussion on slowtwitch about that. So if you are looking to purchase speed for triathlons, I would suggest a real TT helmet. |

There's been a lot of discussion on slowtwitch about that. So if you are looking to purchase speed for triathlons, I would suggest a real TT helmet. True dat. For the OP: Although I own an Air Attack, I only use it for training. I love the visor. Makes things really simple. That being said, it doesn't test all that well aerodynamically, especially if you get the Shield version. If you prefer a road helmet over an aero helmet, the (Giro) Synthe has tested well, as has the (Specialized) Evade, and the (LG) Course. That being said, if you're all about that speed, then go aero helmet. There are some expensive options out there, such as the (LG) P-09 and (Giro) Selector which test well on a lot of ppl. I went with the (Giro) Advantage 2, which tests well on a lot of ppl, too, although much cheaper than the other two. You also have to train yourself to stay aero, as movements of the head (tired neck, for example) can cause the expensive helmet you just bought to become a wall agaisnt the wind. Good luck! |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread Less than 16 weeks out! Hopefully everyone has started to dive in to their training plans! How's the temperature treating everyone? We are predictably hot and humid here in Kansas... mornings are in the mid/high 70s and afternoon highs are just below 100. Makes for an easy decision regarding morning or afternoon runs |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread I had a two week rough patch in June but am trying to get back on track. Having a real hard time with this IM. During my 2012 training I was WAY less busy with work and one kid less so it has definitely made it a little more challenging. I also was putting off buying and replacing some training gear so I bit the bullet last week and spent a couple hundred on crap hoping it will get me back in the "training mood". I have a 4 hour ride planned of this weekend and somewhat looking forward to it. Temps have been really mild in Chicago this summer...the rain has been a different story. I'll be planning on driving out to do some rides about 45 min east of town, where there are some good hills out in the country. The only bad thing is it's SO far out in the country there's only one gas station on a 45-mile loop |

Fort Riley has huge shoulders on all the roads and some gnarly climbs. We even have a CAT 4 climb. The drivers are nice too, always give me plenty of room. I did El Dorado Lake tri on Sunday and was surprised how flat it is down there. One of my teammates who is also doing LOU came down a few weeks ago for a 45 mile ride and she was surprised how hilly Fort Riley was and how safe it felt to ride. Let me know if you are interested. Its roughly a 2 hour drive |

Member 130 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread I'm rolling along pretty smoothly. Only a few minor aches and pains that I have had to deal with. I'm doing Muncie in a couple weeks so I have a mini taper coming. Placed 6th in my age group in a local OLY a couple weeks ago. I was pretty happy with that. |

7 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread Training was going very smooth until a bike crash resulted in a type 3 shoulder separation. The estimated 6-8 week recovery time has been a major bummer. I had to take an entire week off from training, but have since been enjoying the wonderful world of indoor training. Lots of hours on the stationary bike and elliptical machine (holding onto the stationary bars). Finally got outside for a run today and felt good, possibly take the bike off the trainer this weekend as well. Anxious to get back to the pool for sure. Nervous that I am falling behind a bit, but not much I can do either. Just when you get settled into a groove in your training plan, a wrench gets thrown your way!!! The crash was 3 weeks ago, so that leaves only about 3-5 more weeks according to the doctor. Anyone else ever had this injury? |

Makes for an easy decision regarding morning or afternoon runsĀ Just did Buffalo Springs 70.3, will have a couple of easier weeks (due to a bit of travel), then will start ramping again for IMLou. After record rains here in north TX this spring, we're finally to the real summer temps. I'm like you, I do all running in the early morning, though these days it's still often 75-80 degrees. I can't believe it's almost July. IMLou will be here before we know it. |

There are so many plans out there right now. It always makes me wander. Also, if you currently strength train, how much do you do a week? I'm really trying to keep up on 2 days a week I think I should get on a plan. lol Edited by SEADOCHA 2015-07-05 7:28 PM |

Member 130 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread I have been training 8 to 12 hours a week for the last 8 weeks. Now that I am heading into race prep training that will increase a bit. Maxing out somewhere around 18 hours on race rehearsal weeks. I am probably on the low end of most athletes because my training focuses more on training stress than volume. That is not to discount volume. My volume will be increasing as the race approaches. Just not as much as most. |
