Kate What happens, especially with a larger active group, is you will have double posts ad then someone gets dropped. The key is for everyone after they post to check the person they replied to and make sure nobody posted in between. If someone does post in between, copy their numbers, then edit your post and paste in the numbers you missed because of the double post. Second is be vigilant, mistake will happen, its not personal. Thanks Jim. Another best practice is to copy the tally board, update it and then post. After you post go back and edit to add any commentary you would like. That ensures that your update in # and minutes is posted quickly helping to eliminate 2 people cross posting. If you are logging your workouts on BT.com then you can go into reports and check your monthly volume of S/B/R for your total minutes. |

Jim, I saw your 20 min TR test and you blew the test away, well done! I saw some improvement from my last one, which means the bar is higher for the upcoming Tour of Sufferlandria. Joe, I just realized I have a half marathon race this Jan 25th, right after the start of the Tour of Sufferlandria, so it will be interesting (and painful) to see how it goes Joe 3 03:10:11 Edited by trigabe 2015-01-06 5:05 PM |

I was going to stop at my usually 25 minutes, but I circled my street for an extra 5 minutes to get my daily point. For cold weather below 30F, like today, I wear long underwear, running pants, a fleece top layer (also called a base layer at REI), thin gloves and a hat. When it's between 30 to 50F, I skip the long underwear and usually unzip my top layer to vent after a couple miles. I prefer to be a little cold in the beginning rather than too hot at the end. I feel I get alot more out of the college pool vs the endless pool. Anyone use an endless pool? Tips on how to structure a workout? I pretty much just try to swim for the 30 minutes I have access to it at a time. Scott |

I usually wear tights or running pants down to about 30, and tights under running pants below that. Also an Under Armour fleece hat, Brooks HVAC gloves, and wool socks. This makes me laugh at myself. Here in Southern California it was 45 degrees outside and I had a long sleeve dry-fit shirt under a fleece with knee high socks, a beanie and gloves and I FROZE my butt off. I'm such a wuss. Joe, its a half Marathon and I hope to build enough fitness in 3 weeks to get me through it (although it is the toughest HM in Guatemala due to the tough climbs on the course). I was going to tease you with Lafayette, but then I remembered we just got spanked at the 150th game, so we will leave it at that :-) |

Below 15 I put on a jacket. The key is stay dry - once you get wet you will never warm up. |

Expert 1480 Somewhere in the Swamps of Philly | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by JBacarella I did my fit test on Trainer road tonight. I'm not sure if I started too hard or if it was a mistake to do it on a run day, but I died on the second half. Interestingly my threshold was 138 and my MAF is 137. Jim: I looked at your 20' test session and thought your HR during the session remained real low in comparison to your MAF. By contrast my MAF is 140, and my average HR was 163 during the 20' test and my threshold is 154. The way you crashed during the second half looks to me like you fatigued because you may have gone out too hard (and may have had some residual fatigue). When I did my test I hadn't been on the bike in 5 days. I also like the test instructions from Rubber Glove - 5' to get comfortable, 10' really hard and the last 5' all out effort nearing collapse by the end. Give it another go around in a month. |

I think the crash is part going out too hard and part fatigue from the run earlier in the day. Plus I am still getting used to riding by cadence. I am discovering that I tend to ride in bigger gears than I need. So, I am struggling with it. The result is consistent for my heart rate, even when I run my HR never gets too high. Later in the week I will have something more to share about this, I am waiting for some medical tests spurred on because of the side effects on endurance training. It should be good stuff.
